Something new

Here's something everyone can chime in on.
There will be a story in Friday's (Aug.3) paper talking about the agreement between the county and the former property director Andy Gulotta.
Seems Andy is going to be making about $3,500 a week in his new position as consultant.
Now I know Andy and I don't begrudge him anything. More power to him for negotiating such a sweet deal. But what in the world were our county commissioners thinking when they agreed to that sum.
You do the math. It works out to about double what we (I mean all of us hard working taxpayers) were paying him when he was on the county's payroll.
I've borrowed a favorite phrase from our sports editor, Dave Kurtz before and it seems appropriate here: "C'mon."
I've borrowed from our illustrious courthouse reporter, Peg Gibbons: "Give me a break."
But now it's time to cement my own phrase into the local lexicon, given the circumstances of the atrocity.
Are you kidding me?

That better be some awesome consulting at that price tag! Just curious as to whether that salary was put up to a vote and did ALL of the commissioners vote unanimously for that? I'm sorry, but my husband who works for the largest utility co. in PA as a regional manager, only makes that in 1 month and he works 12 hours a day and some weekends and is "on-call" 24 hours a day in case they need him! I hope Mr. Gulotta will be woking just as hard. What exactly will he be doing? How often will he be "consulting?" I can't imagine he'll be working hard enough to earn close to $12,000 a month! Of course, I don't know him so maybe he's Superman in disguise....or maybe my husband should get a job with the county.

I agree with your take on Mr. Gulotta's consulting contract, but I must point out that "the commissioners" did not approve the contract. Commissioner Damsker vociferously voted against it. Only Republicans Ellis and Matthews voted for it.

Something fishy.

First they say his employees are doing work on county time at the taxpayers expense at his home. Then the commissioners let him resign instead of firing him. Then he's hired for what you say "around $3500.00 a week". I understand there was some kind of investigation. Was this done by the District Attorneys office? When will something be done at the domed castle? At election time MAYBE.

Imagine an investigation being held to see if county employees were doing off site work on county time. Then all of a sudden the head of the department decides to retire. The commissioners hire him as a consultant at $3500.00 a week with benefits. QUESTION: Who did the investigation? Did the commissioners hire him to cover up something? Who else is involved with the free labor? If the District Attorneys office did the investigation, what does that say for the gentleman running for the commissioners job in Nov. There is something wrong here, and I believe your courthouse reporters saying is right on. Give us the facts Ms. Gibbons PLEASE. November is getting closer.

So what else is new? The courthouse will never change. There will never be replacements for the same old same old people. The voting public will get the shaft and smile about it. The same people will get the jobs they do not deserve, and laugh all the way to the bank. That's the American way. Now that the Nov. election is getting close the people you never see in public are marching in parades and on T.V.. Give me a break. What a bunh of phonies.

In today's article regarding Ms. Damsker being almost brought to tears Marino... does anyone else thinks his behavior is completely inappropriate? How many employees tell their employers to fire them if you don't like it?

Why must the County and taxpayers put up with this arrogance?

I'm glad to hear that Ruth Damsker voted "no" on this. I'm just sorry she had to be treated with such disrespect by the other 2 commissioners. Hang in there, Ruth and thank you for doing the right thing. This is really outrageous but as someone else said, it's politics as usual at the courthouse. Hopefully, voters will make the change in November and stop this craziness!

So what happens now? I guess it becomes old news and people forget about it and Gulotta collects $182,000 a year under the radar until someone puts a stop to it?

These commissioners should really be ashamed of themselves!!

Get a job with the county??? Right...but for how long??? I would think that there should be an age limit for a person to hold these jobs. Younger and well educated in various fields should be placed in management/supervisory positions.

anonymous-

That would be age discrimination wouldn't it? Of course we can't do that...more than half of the court house would have to go! On second thought, what a great idea!!!

Someone has something on someone.
CYA and all will be forgotten. I still say that the Feds should step in and clean up the County the way they cleaned up Norristown.

Unfortunately people who have climbed the ladder to the supervisory positions have done so through who they know and time in, rather than qualifications and being able to perform the job. It's a sad state to see what goes on from an internal point of view. The taxpayers would be outraged.

All positions should have a job description. When the next election is over & the new crop of Commissioners in place - this would be the ideal time to place an age/term limit on positions. If Judges have a term/age limit why not all County Employees? New employees are needed in all organizations - our County is no different. Use of modern tech. would make for less travel to and from Norristown and employees would be where they are supposed to be at any given time. Yes, so many things would be possible.. but then who would be the judge of the whole system - the Commissioners??? They have a term limit - that might be one answer.

Hey Stan. When an employer directs an employee to do work on county time at a friends home or their own, is'nt that theft of services?
Someone should be made to make restitution, and that someone is the two commissioners who approved keeping him on the payroll. What a joke, and one of them wants to come back, not with my vote he will. Justice at the BIG HOUSE?

Stan, Here it is a month later and nothing has been done to the Gulotta problem. I firmly believe that the R's will be replaced as commissioners in Nov. Why can'nt we have honest government. The click has to go. Thanks for your ear.

Well, as expected. Gulotta is collecting his money and it's old news and forgotten. So nothing will be done about it and he will keep his new big paycheck. The County has become a joke!
