100 days, 100 chances

I hope the next 100 days brings at least some of the change President Obama was talking about when he was running for office. I know, I know, I'm supposed to give him a chance. Well, when you're the most powerful man in the world 100 days is a chance. I remember Pelosi saying she was going to change everything in Washington in her first 100 hours. We're still waiting. Obama has had 100 days to make an impact on the economy, on health care, and in the Middle East. Let's see, what do we have so far, the economy isn't getting any better, the proposed health care plan will put the economy in worse shape than it has ever been in, and Obama's finding out that getting out of Iraq isn't as easy as he thought it was going to be. Hope and change sounds a little hollow right about now.

Stan-

Don't tell me you still haven't figured out that politicians don't deliver on 99% of their promises. The track record for presidents getting much of what they promised, accomplished is pretty dismal. It doesn't matter if they're in the white house or running your local government...they all have big ideas and in the end...little to show for it. You just hope they don't make things worse while in office. I think it has alot to do with the opposing party opposing any idea that didn't come from their side. I laugh when politicians say they want to find common ground with the opposite side. If there were common ground, we wouldn't be a country divided once again. I may be dating myself but, I can't recall us ever being "all for one and one for all." Can you?

"All for one and one for all"- it's just a saying that never took off in politics. I have 5 grandkids that are in college and up until last year they all were Republicans. Now, we have two Republicans and the other three are siting on the fence. My last "E" today from the two Republicans regarding our Senator's switch said "great"! - he has a problem and that is being faithful to his party and if he did not agree on any bill presented - the true should have been told - no more mumbling. I voted for him when he first ran for the Senate and attended two of his rallies here in Montgomery County. I'm sorry to see him go, but we do have younger candidates that are not set in their ways and are willing to speak out when they see a wrong being committed. Change is now presented to the Good Old Party - I'm ready are you?

I know from the Republican side it seems that Arlen Specter's retreat from the party is a calculated political move. I agree. But I will say that if I were in his shoes, I'd have done the same thing.
I think he should retire and enjoy the rest of his life but he thinks he still has more work to do. Have to give him credit for taking the heat and getting out of the kitchen when it made sense. He's a smart cookie and does what he thinks is right whether it's popular or not. The Dem primary will be an interesting one now....Republican, not so much.

My husband switched to Dem. so he could keep his job - the Commissioner's wife switched, because she knew exactly what her husband was up to and now our Senator -- always on the side that wins or pays. You thought you had all this figured out? Well, most people still have their heads in the sand. What a game!

Anonymous said...

Some people have their heads in the sand----the othershave their heads somewhere else.

Arlen's money contributed by Rep. Supporters should be returned and not with any handling charge. The gentleman that answered the phone at his office a few years ago told me I would have to send him a self-addressed stamped envelope to get a copy of a "Bill" we were discussing. Later on we were told that there would also be a charge for printing... So, if a handling charges has always been paid by we lowly Republican Citizens, then he should have enough $$$ to cover the transfer. So too -- the three months as an "Almost" Republican should have office force salary and all costs of running the office be shared ... you know halfers. Back to basics Arlen, like the good old days when you ran as a Dem. in Phila.

Why don't you stop your endless whining about President Obama? The latest polls show him with a 68% APPROVAL RATING! And as far as Arlen Specter is concerned, you as a so-called newsperson should know that Democrats were voting for him because of his independent streak to judge a situation and make a decision based on his conscience, and not be in lockstep with those losers who have Rush (oxycontin) Limbaugh and Newt (adulterer) Gingrich as their saviors, along with Glen Beck (at Faux News) and you as the trumpeters of doom.

I am glad that the CDC is following the Bush Administration's formula concerning this Flu outbreak. This is one time I'll give Mr. Obama credit for keeping a Republican Appointee in position. No change necessary! Now the economy is still cold in fact below zero and we all hope it comes to a simmer in the next 6 months. Health care - give me a break, all talk but no action that would improve the system by eliminating costs that are not necessary and covering non-citizens. As for Iraq, we will be out of there and going on to another country with the same forces needed and the American Leadership under Bush will remain - oops! Nope NO CHANGE. The Veterans will be coming home to what type of jobs & benefits? The people in Iraq are free to form a great government if they so choose. They now have to decide. So, the 100 Days For Change, has a lot of promising and giving many $$$ out to companies that has caused this crisis we are now in. Change by rewarding is like giving a criminal $$ instead of time in the slammer. So, yes Stan and Anonymous 99% of all promises are never delivered - that's politics big time.

Well, I guess that Arlen's switch to the "D"s is no surprise. He is a smart man and wants to go on helping out his home turf when it comes to bringing home the bacon. I predict that Arlen will win in 2010 as a D, the R candidate is way toooo the right for me, and I have been a good Republican for over 50 yesrs now.

If I were Arlen, I would hang up my spurs and start collecting my big bucks retirement plan from you the taxpayers, it would choke a horse, but hey, he is entitled to it.

I praise his moxy and look forward to 6 more years of bringing home the bacon.

Good luck Arlen, you have my vote in 2010.

I remember Pelosi saying she was going to change everything in Washington in her first 100 hours. We're still waiting.More of the same dishonesty, Stan?

Show me where Pelosi vowed to "change everything." Her promise was to enact her 100-hour plan, which included passing legislation on eight different measures - all of which the House did, within that 100 hours. You may not be aware, but Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, a position that has no control over votes in the Senate or the President's signature on a bill.

As for Obama's first 100 days... Do you even read the news? And seriously, Stan, if you thought that Obama was going to be able to win two wars, reverse the worst economy since 1932, pass comprehensive health care legislation, change the overall tone in Washington, and turn around 50 years of bad policy in the Middle East in 100 days, why on Earth did you speak so harshly of what one could only describe as a miracle worker prior to the election?

Methinks you both protest and expect far too much. Economy's looking better than it was in September, health care is looking closer than it has ever been, Middle East relations are the brightest they've been in years, and at least there's finally some sort of plan in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'd say for 100 days, he's met or exceeded realistic expectations.

But, you weren't holding him to any realistic measure, were you? He either solved all the world's in 100 days, or you were going to call him a failure. And even if he did, you'd probably have criticized his solutions.

Stan, I'm glad you protest too much as one poster indicated. I for one have protested on health care and the economy way before our new President, Mr. Obama, took office. I do believe, because we are constantly turning the little thorn we get results. Anger by the Dem., because we dare call for more reform, but less costly, less government in our private lives will keep this administration on their toes. The Federal Reserve, concerning the Banking Industry, is now saying "Hold On! We need you to look ahead" The "Now Generation" is out of vogue, more thought before action on the part of the Federal Reserve and money management needs to be taken. Our local, small, banks are and were doing fine. The Auditors can examine the whole banking system in only a few weeks and that is a plus. If a new ruling is needed - that too is no problem. Now the larger banks/investment banks will never be able to have a full audit. There is the problem. Too large, left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, as the saying goes. Here is where the correction is needed. Our banks, the larger/investment banks mostly are under the control of foreign countries - stockholders and real estate. Now, does this make you think when looking and listening to our new leaders and their plans? It should! We no longer manufacture our tools, cars & clothing apparel. What do we have left? So, each 100 days is important, for the President, as it was for all former Presidents, without anything like the flu or another fly-over to side track his thinking and also his cabinet.

100 LOST FREEDOMS in 100 DAYS

POLITICIANS protecting my FREEDOM is all I want. Don't care what party, as long as it's for my freedom!

LOSS of freedom in:
banking credit choices, auto purchase freedom, free charity choices, to not pay for someone else's mortgages, to my own health insurance choices, loss of fiscal responsibility, AND next,
loss of free air due to Cap & Trade pass-on costs, loss of choice to heat or cool in my own house with future power grids in homes, loss of freedom in education.

FREEDOM IS NOT AUTOMATIC.
Only by upholding our Constitution will we be protected to keep it. In other words, do not let politicians vote in laws which go against our Constitution. Otherwise, another freedom of ours is LOST.

RE-LEARN governments, so that you can recognize when you're losing your freedoms.

What we have lost is one GREAT SUPREME COURT JUDGE...
In todays TH an article written by Mark Sherman of the API I read the accounting of Judge Souter's Farewell to his Judges. "Souter, speaking to an annual conference of Judges and Lawyers from Delaware, NJ & PA. He handles matters that come to the Supreme Court from these states." Notice there were no Cameras or photo ops by the Press Corp. at the conference, this was always his way of doing business. Truly a good man that did his job well. We here in PA and the Tri State Area need a great replacement for Judge Souter. We really do have one great Judge whose family is well known and respected...The
Scirica Family. Chief Judge Anthony J. Scirica of the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals should be one of our TOP Candidates being considered by Mr. Obama. Check out this young man. We of the older generation remember his father and his firm - Smilley,Bean and Scirica as one of the Counties very best. As Souter stated in his farewell speech the legal profession should take satisfaction in doing "something worth doing" and trying "to do it well". Judge Scirica would fit the bill and to receive a copy of the Constitution to guide him, as did Judge Souter when taking office, would probably say I will as I always have.
We have lost another Great Supreme Court Judge - Judge Souter we give you our "Thanks" and enjoy your free time and good health from a very grateful country.

Do you remember Nancy Pelosi's campain statement, after taking over Gephart's Minority Whip's position? I believe she was going to everything in 100 hours (working hours). Try as I may I have not found what she threatened to do or accomplished. Maybe our Dem. Party supporters could help us almost Dem. but are independent for now. We discussed her take on impeachment of the Pres. & Vice Pres. and how the CIA/FBI gave out false or statements were misleading about the 9/11. But, really what was that about 100 hours???

A.Spector and J.Sestak, both Democrats. They both need to stand back and check their facts twice before making statements regarding their future in politics and why they believe their past history is oh so important in todays climate. It could be they both are "full of themself" as one committee member that is on the "Blue" team remarked. As for the loss of the "Senior" status when it comes to various committee chairmanship - i.e. Judiciary Committee - which would be one fine chairmanship due to Souter's resignation from the Supreme Court. Now, Sestak thinks he really is capable, due to his military training, and has the backing of his party and maybe some from the various other parties - really? I believe Murphy has shown his colors and has served our great country. Think Joe, before you make a mistake that could cost the party and your seat. Maybe another term might sit better with the 7th.

Back in November before the "Big Blue" became the leader of USA we were discussing Tax Havens - there was a "Report Over 8 in 10 Corporations have Tax Havens" Well, someone in the "Blue" must have rattled the cage, because Mr. Obama is after these very corporations that outsource, have tax havens and manufacture almost all their products in other countries. But, somewhere here in America there is a little sticker that says American Made in __________ whatever country they are dealing with. Low wages and taxes is a big problem because of this very high price tags are placed on the garment or product made. Yes, we do need a change regarding the above. Most of these companies have their home office in Delaware, because of the tax situation there or in Nevada that too is tax free or is very simpathetic toward companies if they get into trouble. The problem of trying to get through to the companies, that ousource,is the communication with their Customer Service - now don't tell me you have not tried to explain why their understanding of the problem is not correct..."Let me speak to someone that speaks English - American Type!"

100 Days plus a few...I just finished reading an article in the TH regarding Bidens responsibilities. Mr. Obama has added the responsibility of helping find the right fix for the Supreme Court vacancy. He has to clear the way for Mr. Obamas visits over seas by visiting there and expressing what Mr. Obama wishes to accomplish and then here at home he oversees how all money is being spent - wisely or not at all on the original intent. I do believe with this mans traveling and talks to the various leaders, we more than likely could cut another post in size- Hillary Clinton's position in half at least. So many possibilities to cut the cost now in place or promised since the first of the 100 back in January.

State employees are prohibited from campaigning for state elected officials because public money would indirectly be used to assist in a campaign giving the incumbent a huge advantage.

The size of the department has nothing to do with the willingness of an elected official to sideslip their employees efforts and money raising capacity to perpetuate their holding an office. But in the converse, could an employee within the office oppose the incumbent without intimidation?

Both the DA's office and the police have the power to use their special power to intimidate, even when they are not trying to intimidate. Political intimidation for any purpose of campaigning is abusive to the democratic process particularly when money raising is an issue. "

As quoted by one "registered" poster, and I agree. Risa and Caster are both trying to cement their feet in the door to advance their party over the actual innocence of the little guy. Lies and innuendos have been prevalent and people end up staying silent, just like the ones targeted through the patriot act and illegal wire taps, etc. There are no ethics in Risa's little klan, and it is only the beginning as Caster started this ride on a very slippery slope.

We got mail today from the Democratic Committee showing the faces & names of all hopefuls on the ballot. I'm glad they have given our split family one week to check these candidates out. The postage situation is probably why literature is not being mailed - now that is too bad. Well guess who now needs to go check all candidates for her spouse? You got that right and print out copies for reference. I think I'll take the original information that I have and before making the copy, add a line or two like our Rep. Sestak's staff does to form letters - it doesn't look very clean, but his copies don't either - almost like an original? Hardly! I'll make a notation that additional information has been added by home office steno. that should make for an interesting week.

CHANGE is LOSS of OUR FREEDOM.

WHICH is exactly what Obama said during pre-election. He just used the words of promising change.

FREEDOM ENEMY WORDS is still his choice of verbiage. He just calls it 'change you need' and 'we're in this together,' and 'the rich don't pay enough.' ALL of which are fabrications, or not out-right lies.

IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THIS:
YOUR DECISION CHOICES:
1. Want to keep your FREEDOM?
OR..
2. Want GOVERNMENT telling you what to do with just about everything?

SO FAR, this administration and Congress have voted NOTHING BUT AGAINST YOUR INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM and Constitution, to which they swore an oath to protect and defend.

THAT OATH is there to SAVE YOUR FREEDOM FROM BEING TRASHED as it now is by this administration & Congress.

Stan,

I know that traditionally for us political junkies we are all hopped up on the pomp and ceremony, but we tend to overlook the real important events as they happen.

For instance, in his first 100 days, the President has:
-Set the agenda for dealing with the military situations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

-Reestablished the laws and guidelines against torture.

-Set the agenda for closing Gitmo.

-Passed a stimulus plan with tax cuts for most American families

-Passed SCHIP for uninsured children, and raised cigarette taxes to help pay for plus promote healthier choices.

That's what I got off the top of my head.

As for results, it's now up to the other cogs in the wheel in our government. And from there we can asses the productiveness and merit of Obama's policies.

But we won't really know for a while now until the money starts to flow out and get spent.

I would grade the President with a B+ for his first 100.

Didn't like how the stimulus came out (wanted more money in construction, and wanted the gov't to do direct hiring of construction workers like the old WPA and TVA agencies did), nor do I like how he is handling the "Torture Memo" situation and the pursuit of justice against those who violated the law.

I do wish Mr. Obama and his men/women would stick to A PLAN and see it through. The Photo Ops and the constant chatter by our President on TV and his spokesperson, reminds me of our last two administrations, especially after 9/11 that placed us in a War Mode. This is their way of trying to convince us it will all happen, if we just believe. I have a gut feeling and it is not a good one, just like action taken before WWII and how we were able to come out of the depressing times. Are we going to have the Military Personnel run our Country? It seems so. The dollar will be worth? Right, not like the old certificates. Yes, the gut feeling is making me sick and I was a believer in change.

Israel & Palestine need to be separate states and the Pro and Choice need to find common ground. I believe we are free to think and discuss all of the above without gun fire. Government should never try to rule our personal life, although, some people believe that majority rules even if the subject is against the Constitution's written laws that take so many problems to the Supreme Court.

100 Days and Counting? That is correct, but exactly what has been accomplished? More spending, but results are - we will see in 4 years, plus. Close down that camp! Sounds good, but now what? Oh, if those roundedup after 9/11 say I'm sorry that will be enough? I don't think so. Car Mfg. & bailouts - give them money so they can close down and never be seen again? How many jobs here and throughout the world will go down the drain? Many, many is the answer - it was an illthought and carried out decision that is coming back to haunt Mr. Obama's thinkheads and talkheads and maybe Mr. Obama when he gets time, inbetween his talking and talking, like he is still running for office to concentrate on one subject at a time. In eight years, under the Bush Administration, we as a nation went through turmoil that has never been seen since Namn. Our Military was downsized during the Clinton Administration, because the "Cold War" was over?? The FBI and CIA did what?? Well, just the two facts certainly did not make us safe, only what was achieved was we put on a smiley/happy face to all countries. Now, remember the old saying about Russia - If they are smiling, look out - there is evil being planned - do not trust them. So, 100 days has not proven we will have more than hope the Obama and his men/women's plans will work. Hope does not put bread on the table or make our country more safe and health care & education is more affordable and improved. There is one sure thing he, Mr. Obama, does use our money like play money with all his men that are eager to help him accomplish just that.

Anonymous said...

It depends on how you see the irons. I do believe most irons were or are not red hot. Talking heads make them so and if the issues are repeated enough, henny penny, the sky will fall. My problems have never been the problems that most people have, so I'm sorry our newly elected President saw the sky falling and not a smooth deep blue sea and green meadows for his next four years and not so much crisis that is placing companies in that mode.

The first 100 Days plus has a dismal accomplishment record, only promises and the use of funds for the promises. Now, looking back on the last 8 - 20 years of accomplishments by various Presidents that is pukka compared to our now Mr. Obama stage show. We now recognize he has not thought through his plans, but someway, somehow it will be done - anything and everything on his wish list. How many companies are folding because of his wish list and how he sees governments need to interfere to firm up manufacturing? Because he can, as our former Dem. President said is why his plans, right or wrong will go forward. What a sorry mess it is making of our country. Every person that has a window box or a patch of soil needs to plant a nonvictory garden to offset this depressed time in our lives. Life was great, until the talking heads told us over and over how bad we and the whole world had it - now that is a sin.

One of the major TV Stations had a young child, the Mother was a Single Mother that could not find a job after her company downsized, that was homeless and how he had to deal with it. He said what he missed was his friends, his own bed, playing the newer video games and going to a restaurant. No questions were asked as to why they did not ask a relative if they could live with them until a new job and housing could be provided. I had three siblings and never had my own bed or bedroom. We always had some relative that was in need. This type of connection is not there anymore - why? No one should go hungry or in need of shelter if a relative dwells within the USA. All Children when they become Adults are responsible for their Parents, Siblings , their own children or relative when there is a need. The government is trying to take this responsibility away by providing everything for all people, which in turn makes them less able to care for themself. My Grandmother had a saying "Enough is Sufficient" - I grew up during the depressed times and then of course my children did in the 1950 era. So, they also understand why we use my Grandmom's saying when times are tough.

100 Plus- Like a stone and moss, if you keep rolling it will not gather any. Obama seems to think so. I would like to see more larger stones settle in on the banks of the Potomic that would not have more government regulating our lives and less military personnel deciding how and how many ships, planes and the types they would prefer should be built. They may know their business, but they surely are not business men. Plenty of small companies will go the way of all things if they are in charge or elected to an office that will give them some "power". Many ships and planes need only be modified, less overlaps, that way our shipbuilding and aerospace industry and all companies that supply the building of these ships would not go bellyup, thus making the employment lines very long. Think!

I meant to type that I have tax FREE transit (pre-Federal taxed). Also, regarding the "less military" comment. Why don't you talk to the idiots (Republicans) who gutted the military in California after California voted for the other guy... The navy was shipped to Alaska where it takes up to three hours to navigate out of the waterways into the ocean. Sitting ducks for China, Russia and probably North Korea if they get their long range missles working. They also have to cope with the freezing weather affecting equipment, but not for long since Bush and the rest of the idiots don't believe in global warming, when the ice cap and glaciers are melting. I know about the military and I know that Bush was a cheapskate, not wanting to allow a cost of living for Armed Services personnel and ON HIS WATCH, the VA hospitals were exposed as pest infested hovels.

The military personnel may not always talk to the media, but they are GLAD BUSH IS GONE!!!!!!!!! And, so am I!

I don't blame Specter changing, especially when liars like Bush, Cheney and Condeleeza Rice just keep trying to cover their butts! Now another guy says Cheney is a liar:

Former VP Dick Cheney has been a vocal defender of Bush-era interrogation techniques.

Former VP Dick Cheney has been a vocal defender of Bush-era interrogation techniques.

Levin, speaking at the Foreign Policy Association's annual dinner in Washington on Wednesday, said an investigation by his committee into detainee abuse charges over the use of the techniques -- now deemed torture by the Obama administration -- "gives the lie to Mr. Cheney's claims."

The Michigan Democrat told the crowd that the two CIA documents that Cheney wants released "say nothing about numbers of lives saved, nor do the documents connect acquisition of valuable intelligence to the use of abusive techniques."

"I hope that the documents are declassified, so that people can judge for themselves what is fact, and what is fiction," he added.

Justice Department documents released in April showed that Bush administration lawyers authorized the use of techniques such as sleep deprivation, slapping, stress positions and waterboarding, which produces the sensation of drowning.

More and more this guy is abandoning his own promises and adopting ideas the Republicans put forth. Not only is he realizing he can't do everything he promised, but the old guy McCain must not have been so far off base if he can steal his campaign platform.

Personally I don't think I should have to pay more in taxes so everyone including illegal immigrants can have it at my expense. It will drive more employers out of business for one thing.

Handling of Torture Memo. Not good. I question the wisdom of our present leaders if they believe hands off all detainees that tried and succeeded in many ways to destroy our country.
Warning signs not heeded by the former administration. For warned is for armed. The 1900 era our Military was not our concern - it was "The Economy Stupid" I believe their saying went. We now have warning signs that are unmistakeable - China, N. Korea and Russia -check their smiley faces. The move for forces to Alaska was a good one, if you would consider the three countries above.
The Ice Caps are Melting. Yes, that is correct. Exactly when did this start? The USA has had their hands off of the Environment Issue for many years. The countries that we really need to convince to change their ways now are India and China. Do you think that is possible under their present government. Don't think so!
So, back here in the good olde USA.
Our Government is not using cars, planes or any fuel of any type to heat, run their business throughout the world, right?? Oops! Making panels to replace various means of heating our homes is nice, but they are costly and the people that use coal, oil & electric to heat their homes are unable to afford the change-over. It's the Economy Stupid! You first Washington, show us how we will accomplish this global warming trend by example.

Obviously, the poster doesn't understand the implications of putting a Navy in an area where it takes 3 hours to navigate the straits to get out to the ocean to get their job done! ["We now have warning signs that are unmistakeable - China, N. Korea and Russia -check their smiley faces. The move for forces to Alaska was a good one, if you would consider the three countries above."] This poster probably doesn't know about MAC and SAC bases either. The issue is READINESS! and a 3 hour journey, with possible groundings, is nonsense. This move was a Republican "earmark" as such. Moving military to Alaska brings in more $, but at what risk? You have Caribou barbie up there acting like she is in charge, when it's been proven that she is not in charge of any type of protecting the U.S. against invasions, etc. She is only in charge of calling out the guard when there is a flood or her first dude gets his snowmobile stuck during his races. So, I hope the poster that I quoted, goes out and get remedial military strategy education as soon as possible!

My family alone has hundreds of years of VOLUNTARILY joining and serving the U.S. in the Armed Services, going back years, including serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars and at SHAPE!

Readiness - that is correct. MAC was in activated in 1992 and Personnel & Equipment absorbed by Air Mibility Command. We have a great Air Force. SAC - yes this too was usefull - What is your point when referring to MAC and SAC and the jobs they were called on to do? We need both Air and Sea Commands in that area of our country. If at all possible the more areas that have our military presence the better. The Governor of Alaska and the Military Bases there are never run by the Governor - that is a well known fact - soo? Are you still simmering over the election that gave all of us Mr. Obama? Get over it! He is trying to get his programs in place and maybe not everyone will agree with him, just as they did not agree with the prior administration.

You obviously misunderstood my comments. I am not simmering over President Obama. Neither are any of my family in the Military or Not! We are glad he is in charge. I have seen the useless Talking heads like Reagan and Dubya in action and I know what Reagan did in California as Governor. Tossed out the people who needed medical help, just like Dubya ignored the Vets who needed it. And guess where a lot of them are? On the streets, homeless! And a lot of them are Vets! I mentioned the Air Force and Navy in my posts. And, I also have family that served and are serving in the other branches of the Armed Forces. My point about the talking heads and Palin are that they are just that! But, Palin tried to act like she was in charge, and was caught in a lot of lies. So much for that "candidate". So, re-read my posts and then make your point.

I do believe the Poster on 6/4 is veting his frustration on how he believes our country should have been run. My neighbor's son-in-law is stationed in Alaska with the Navy. I have not heard him or her complain that our Government's strategy wasn't correct. The whole picture needs to be looked at, before you call any leader from the past or the present,an idiot. We have learned from Pearl Harbor, I hope, and Mr. Obama understand the situation - he is in charge now. We live in the present with the type of military capability, other than go sailing on the high seas without support from the other branches of the military filling in their place of the puzzle when there is some type of out-break. It would be nice to see our Government's "Play Book", but if it were not kept secret, like how we treat captured felons, the whole world would have us as a sitting duck.

Anonymous said...

Right On Anonymous! Something like too many cooks in the kitchen and their recipes differ. How our present President sees the world and how he would like it to be depends on how much support there will be on the whole. The UN should be the leader and we need a very strong and knowledgeable person representing the United States. If we are attacked the United Nations needs to be there as the First String, not a drag-along, as 9/11.

We have a lot of want-a-bes from various Armed Forces that are now retired. They feel that their experience would make the world a better place to live if they could have the various military vessels or any type of machine, with a little tweeking. Don't we all. Check the many bloggers and also those meetings that will bring you up-to-date on their take. The next year should be interesting.

The Obama World - as he would like it to be - right or wrong.
On the go again, prompter in place, is exactly how the 100 days has been for Mr. Obama.
I would think if our NEW PRESIDENT would stay in Washington, and conserve fuel and manpower, long enough to make sure all the things that were or are wrong with our government since the Constitution was signed, would be firmly planted and the Heads of ALL Departments would know exactly where they are, instead of not knowing his plan, according to CNN interviews. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing right now and that is not why so many people voted for him - stop campaigning is the answer and checking daily in on all his advisors because they too are doing their thing and it may not be exactly as it should be you know what I mean?- Check CNN!

A Poster in the TH, seems to think that our SS Trust Fund is not in too bad of shape, but may need a little tweaking. I believe he is in his senior years and should know by now that our Government has been drawing down this Fund (borrowing) with a little promise note here and there. We now have a bottom-less pit on spending/loaning type of leader. He also is not pro business or not large businesses that employs many people. He believes smaller is better - that my friend does not bring in the TAX DOLLARS needed.
Health Reform will also place a drain on all companies. Anti Pharmaceutical is not helping either. Doctor visits have gone through the roof $120.00 per visit that generated more business with blood tests, scans and more exrays that's, if you have/have no insurance to cover the costs - enter the insurance company and on and on it goes.
Giving and giving will not make our society productive - it is and has been our down-fall. Working and Saving should be emphasized from Grade School on..then SS would be what it originally started to be - not the retirement fund our government has made it.

SS and all "Helping Hands of Government" has caused the USA to "lean on Government" that is not actually why we moved here from other countries - "Freedom" ! Everyone must take care of themself and family. We are not in a depression - only people that think "depressed" if they can't live the life of NO PROBLEMS - now that sure would be boring. The adventure that takes us through life, should never rely on someone else every step of the way. So, say "NO" to Federal help, unless you have paid your share. Take a long look at our Government's Assistance, before you say "Great" - Think!

Stan I just could not let this slight pass in the local newspaper in Chester County. You know it as the Daily Local and a couple days a week I use the Paoli Train Station and on my way to a meeting read Mr. Sestak's comments at a local Club. He seems to know a little about a lot of things, but I'm not sure he ready for Prime Time, that is out of the water, so to speak. The Column read that he represented Delaware County and Chester County... oops! I guess we are orphans here in Montgomery County with no representation in Congress!

Rumors are that Pearl Harbor was allowed to happen so that the U.S. could join the war...

Then there is a "tape" of dubya wanted to have a "little war" like his pappy and reagan, so he would be thought of as a "commander in chief". More like a "commander in thief"!

I am not "vetting" any frustration on how the U.S. should be run. I know about the errors and voted accordingly, but some people were caught up in the "terrorist" scare that dubya brought up. Terrorists can walk across the Mexican border, just like the Cubans are now doing since they are being caught on the open waters. I also know what the politicians did and what hypocrites they are, especially, Newt, Limbaugh, Hyde and the rest of those idiots who voted against Chrysler and now are complaining since their own dealerships are being shut down. So, Stan needs to stop jumping the gun with this 100 days nonsense. It's going to take a long time to climb out of the mess of reagan, bush and dubya.

Anonymous 6/17 - I'm not too sure of the Pearl Harbor statement you made, but I do know OIL was one great big problem between the USA and Japan. Isn't it funny that now all the fuss with other countries is for the same reason? History and who was in power in various countries sure makes good reading, but most countries and their people do not learn from the mistakes that were made. Would the ability to see into the future what happened because of our action today be interesting?

It's a common rumor. I was not stating a proven fact. However, there were plenty of studies of the event...

Pearl Harbor Story

Henry Dozier Russell

In 1944 Major-General Henry Dozier Russell was appointed to the United States Army Pearl Harbor Investigation Board. Their assignment was to discover how the attack on Pearl Harbor could have taken place without US knowledge. The results of that investigation are widely known. And while the Board's conclusions fell most harshly on General George C. Marshall, there were many others who would share responsiblity in this infamous event.

Written between 1944 and 1946 and stored in a vault until the mid-1990's, this memoir reveals Russell's thoughts, concerns, and unique perspective on one of the darkest moments in US history: The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Quotes from the Memoir

I doubt if at any critical time in our history our interests were in the hands of a weaker group of men than those constituting the War Department in December 1941

The conduct of the War Department from the evening of December 6, 1941, until the time of the attack reflects a state of inefficiency which is so amazing that its description would not be believed were it not so completely established.

We knew early Sunday morning that war would come at one o'clock that day, but nothing was done. The War Department was enjoying its weekend of leisure and this could not be distrubed by a little Japanese war. What a sorry picture!

Major General Henry Dozier Russell (1889-1972) served in the National Gurard from 1916 to 1940. From 1922 to 1932 he organized and led the 59th Infantry Brigade. In 1932 he was made commander of the 30th Infantry "Old Hickory" Division. During WWII he served as a member of the War Department Manpower Board. He retired from the National Guard in 1951.

Interesting comments on how Pearl Harbor's "Surprise" attack occurred.
What makes it interesting is that on 12/7, we had just returned from church. That was really kind of our President and all his men to give us this break before having so many of our forces killed and ships destroyed. Now, there was a good leader?? I questioned the reasoning of all ships being docked there in the first place...but keep reading...the history of before, during and after the fact will make todays wars seem like a skirmish. Now, if you would like to research some other facts ... what happened to the prisoners on the islands and in Europe?? All of these facts are very interesting and will give you a better understanding of how a war and an attack on our homeland is responded to. Our people backed our government because we were/are Americans and our homes and families were attacked.
Glad you found the facts on Marshall. I have not read them.

Up-to-date: Gates placing more Missiles in Hawaii? N. Korea and Iran really should give our government something to think on, but fast. Hawaii and Alaska should always concern our government's military leaders, error on safety first not like Pearl Harbor.

It sure would be interesting to see into the future. Mistakes made back during the many wars probably could have been prevented. Well, maybe because most of our leaders are so sure they are right, because some former Military Person knows the cause of effect, that it is do what I say and we will correct the problems caused later.

Another one bites the dust. As usual a so-called moral majority spouting fool...

courtesy of CNN, AP, etc...

COLUMBIA, S.C. - After going AWOL for seven days, Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday that he'd secretly flown to Argentina to visit a woman with whom he'd been having an affair. He apologized to his wife and four sons and said he will resign as head of the Republican Governors Association.
"I've let down a lot of people, that's the bottom line," the 49-year-old governor said at a news conference where he choked up as he ruminated with remarkable frankness on God's law, moral absolutes and following one's heart. His family did not attend.
The woman, who lives in Argentina, has been a "dear, dear friend" for about eight years but, Sanford said, the relationship didn't become romantic until a little over a year ago. He's seen her three times since then, and his wife found out about it five months ago.

100 Plus Days of Channel 6 and 3, coming out of NY, showing their love of their hero is gagging. Mr. Obama loves to talk on any subject. This man, right now, needs to settle down and do some thinking on his own. Exactly where are all the projects that are started and the outcome does what to the economy? We know the world is not as he would like it to be, but then most young men his age know that it never will be.
What I would like, no I'm not as important as our Mr. Obama, is to hear less of how he plans to correct everything that happened over the last decade. A little more of "we can, but everyone needs to learn to help themself and stop blaming everyone else for their misfortune."
I have been changing Channels lately or turning down the volumn until news that is news appears. Enough already!

Re: 7/1/09 poster... This "young man" (President Obama) needs to do some thinking of his own? You need to get a life. It's about time that someone takes into consideration all reasonable thoughts and concerns. And, what was that old call that routed the unmoral "majority" of republicans? It's the "economy" stupid! While those unmoral idiots keep falling by the wayside, with their "do as I say, not as I do" nonsense.

Also, for 6/27/09 poster... I have more than $200 to spare. In fact, I've order quite a bit lately at about a $100 a pop. Nice to have $ for a change, now that President Obama is in charge.

We have not been able to save any money since 10/08 and that was not because of the administration that was in at that time and of course NO RAISE this year because of the economy. But, as the Poster says he is doing great now that President is in charge. I guess it is the profession we are in, but I am proud of all the people we help and that will never change because promises vs actual accountability does.

The other interesting topic today was our President and Russia's President Medvedeu meeting. Fruitfull, kind of but one baby step is better than none. How about Iran's Supreme Leader -Khamenei?? Think exactly what you would have done in the position our former President and Congress was in after 9/11? Many people from the former administration were still employeed in various departments that led most in congress to believe exactly as the President and his cabinet.

We now have an Attorney General, that has nothing to do so he feels that a change right now is not important or is it he is afraid the to set the stage for the future, because the past sounds more interesting. We know from the past that the FBI and CIA and all the fearless men usually did not toe the line, because of circumstances of that time, but that is why we have a change and history will make very good reading, as it has in the past century. I do hope Holter (sp?)has his ducks in a row, not a dirt finder but a builder on what will be because his history starts now.

Why don't you use a good dictionary and spell check so "employeed" doesn't show up in your post again? This blog seems to underline misspelled words in red, so check before you post. And as far as the American language is concerned, maybe you should check with the Indigenous People who were here first and learn to speak their language that was trampled by the European people who fled religious persecution only to push their religion on other people.

You got over the Clinton's? Whatever do you mean by their moral standards? Is it the same as the current Republicans that are rapidly falling by the wayside with their antics in the men's room at an airport, flying to a foreign country for an affair, paying double salary to a mistress and paying the husband off along with adding their son to the payroll - yet not stepping down over those offenses?

Acceptable words? Are you the self-appointed "acceptable words police"? And how will you enforce these "acceptable words"? I am sorry to say this, and it is a regular word, but you are a joke, just like that quitter Palin. I will be sharing your vision with others, so we can all have a good laugh, just like we did with Palin's debate and follow-up turkey episode.

Too many cooks spoil the broth or is it keep them guessing -the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing or we will form another committee and head to look into the problem. So many ways of looking at our leaders and how the will solve their problems or make more problems.

Stomp, Stomp! Gentlemen/ladies I want this health care now, I don't care how much it cost, everyone needs to tighten their belt. Yes, but we the taxed or should I say over taxed states and those dwelling there in, can not tighten their belts anymore. We, here in PA have great health benefits for those in need, nothing should be free and our Federal Government should check out what we have and have not. no more over-laps.
Why would most of us say, enough? Well, to begin with child care and a parent that works, but does not see that as his/her problem. Which comes first, family or socializing at the nearby tappy? If family came first, there would be very little need for more medical coverage by the State or Federal Government.

I think Mr. Obama needs to get another person directing his way of reporting on the other side's remarks when it comes to Health Care.
He made a direct quote on the 5 O'clock News but did not name the person making the statement or under what conditions this statement was made (incomplete reporting #1). Politics with a little twist of the truth seems to be his way of trying to convince all that his way is correct.
Congress - don't go home without giving me all that I want because the sky will fall --- not so, Mr. Obama!
I did not vote for a comedian - that waits for the response after each statement - in hope those targeted agree and not laugh at his misjudging of their intelligence.

Everyone needs to see a Doctor. I agree. But, if you plan ahead for any emergency, this will or can be taken care of by using the state's system. That means you will need to pay a portion of a visit. Now, what is wrong with that? Most people have themself to blame for not eating/drinking/exercising or some crazy act that caused a great problem for themself or someone else. Get out of handouts and learn to be responsible for yourself and your family. If education is the problem, why? We do have schools and most church organizations are willing to help any person needing assistance. Get with A Program and be responsible.

Mr. Obama should take one step that needs to be corrected with our Health Care and the people that need it most. Those that are physically unable to work, elderly with conditions and children with parents that are not taking care of themself or their children. Show us where in what states all these above are and then start a plan of action that includes the state and then the Federal Government. Please do not bunch it all together and cause us more problems. I like paying for most of my care and I'm in stage 4 of my life. To be able to take care of oneself is called "Pride"..

Breakin at the home of Prof. Gates and the fact he is a friend of Mr. Obama. Well, now it is not great to make comments about RACE by our President, the way our Pres. stated his feelings -not too good. He was not there and the facts were not presented to him so that he could make good judgment. His words did not compliment his statis or the Presidency. Maybe just saying very little would have been best, since he now is not just one of the guys and using Race Issues to explain away all his feelings are getting a little thin. He should try saying "I'm sorry that it happened, I do not know all the facts" from here on.
The Police Officer answered a call regarding a breakin - he was doing his job and no matter how important a person may feel he/she is when confronted by the law enforcement officers, a little higher response from the person being questioned, because that always makes officials question the truth being presented.
"Sorry!" The words should come from the Professor because the next time the response may not be as quick as desired. It never takes more of a person's time to be courteous. Set an example, and then later on you will not need to use an excuse for your actions.

But, I have never worried about funding for our health care, because the need is not that great and the funds have always been placed in an account to cover. So far, so good. But really I do not want our Government taking over our Health Plans.

Well it does seem that no matter how well you are educated there is also a problem of temperament. I'm tired? Sure, we all have problems. But, when an officer comes to your door because of a call made by a neighbor, it is a good thing. Not too many neighbors would call if it happened in their neighborhood. So, the temperament of the homeowner in Mass. had/has a lot to do with the outcome. If he had any training on the treatment of public officials and the officer suggests "you calm down", then that should have been the END. Never, never try to have the last word with a police officer, even if you feel your position in life is above that of any other person, it does not work that way. Why did the homeowner not ask the officer to check out his home, just in case instead of making it a stand-off?? A little education that is now being offered on the same type of situation is being offered by many large companies, he, the Professorr needs to attend one.

He said that it is official the jobs of the Pres., V.P. and all Cabinet Officials will be outsourced by Jan. 2010 and those that are relocated from the "Bay" will be the Execs. They know how to withstand pressure and if they do not succeed - so what, they would be able to take a job caring for any Golf Course as long as it is not in their native country.

Anonymous it sounds great, but the Supreme Court will hear non of this. Instead - Let's try having some other statesman of another country that presently may have an interest in the health of our financial affairs counsel our Pres. & Congress before they say anything or propose another change in the way we do business.

Got "E" Mail Monday about Health Care from my Long Term Provider, Our AARP, our Congressman (who wants to be our Senator) regarding this Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday - that is sure to help us understand the whole "Want" by our Pres.
Keep moving is the key phrase by Obama and his men/women. Tell them what they want to hear, but never answer directly how it will be accomplished.
I understand the Pharmacutical Cos. are willing to give billions toward the cost of the cause.
What I do not understand what our Insurance Cos. are going to give and how much? Does that mean if we take away our car and home insurance and subscribe to this medical system our rates will go up? What about long term care? How much do you have invested? I have quite a lot, because we planned ahead. It covers what? Who pays?
Everything under the Government Umbrella, right?
Now how does the Government get the money to cover the wants that will make all people equal and oh so happy?
Step by Step, slowly we turn - but not too fast! The term comes to mind "I told you so!"

The Health Care Package is interesting, but the whole package needs to be taken apart and compared to what each group now has and that will take time, but it will be worth the wait.

I understand now why a very new Congressman Sestak wants to move on, because Chester County with all the new growth, now has big problems and the area is Thornburg. Do you remember how much it cost when your sewers went in? I do, and most homeowners called it a nightmare. Sestak was unable to secure a Grant for this project and now $12,000. to $15,000.00 are rounded off figures for the new homeowners and $125.00 charge per quarter. Now, figures like the above would make any person sick - long term! So, if Sestak was unable, or was not willing to put in the time to help this small comunity, it time to move on - but not to a higher destination.

Taking care of the locals, when you are a Congressman is what it is all about. Time spent on any problem that is of concern to the people here in Pa. is well spent. Rep. Murphy, a Veteran, although he is not our Representative in Congress, makes sure it is always done. Maybe we need to take a long look at what our representatives are doing for us, not for themself and their career. Keep your notebook handy for the next 5 years so you will know exactly who would be the best for any position that is up for grabs when election time comes around. First things first!

The President and his family will vacation in Mass. He will pay his families portion, along with the Secret Service and anyone that would care to fork over a few $ to help the cause. I'm sure along with the Mass. Professor's help,(remember Mass. Professor that caused all the problems, because he could not open his door and really showed his distaste for the officer investigating the 911 call?)in solving all our problems the country will have a splendid health plan with only a few changes for those that have Federal Coverage that are not willing to give up THEIR BENEFITS, but will share what ever is offered to we commoners. Spector is correct when it comes to present the proposed Health Bill and listen to all that like or not like it. He sure has broad shoulders. We here in PA have a fair coverage for almost every one and with a little tweeking, but not too costly, is would be great. Say, NO to the way the Plan is presented now!

Vacation in Mass. with the Professor and renting the home of a friend that backed McCain? Interesting! What happened to his Ill. home? You know, go back to your roots and enjoy a sermon from Rev. Wright that would put a new spin on how to run the government. No, I guess that would not be the best place - riots and the business regarding "Health Plans" and Gitmo placement in a neighboring state of Mich. being considered...the Mass. vacation is the best place right now. It reminds me of the "One if by land and two if by Sea" -- watch out for the Subs that have been reported off shore - sightseeing I presume. Happy Vacation Mr. President, 200 Days and how many miles per gal. did he use? Heck that is another story.

The Big Push for Health Care now has some common sense surrounding it with the dropping of the end of life issue and non-citizens not being a part of the plan.
What really are they saying about the non-citizens living here, like Obama's Auntie? We will still pay because they will be in the emergency room with us, under the new plan, although our visit is an emergency and is paid for.
First things first - which is take care of the big problem with non-citizens and send them back home no matter what the reason. If they really want to live here, do it the legal way. Know when to say NO!
The non-citizens must be addressed and now, before many problems come up that are the result of not taking care of business or the President and his men not having the ability or common sense to prioritise. One Congressman likes his health plan but said he believes in what is now being offered if it included an exception for the care for his child that had a tumor and needs special attention. Exceptions is why we need to proceed slowly. I like my health care policy and I'm willing to pay for it along with long term care and when I feel that it is my time to go, I have a living will in place, no need for anyone to make a decision for me.

So you would like to see more TV Shows regarding real life people at the head of our State and Federal Government?
Just follow the men or women that are now trying or are in place down in Washington. The poor wife and their families back home or how have they responded to questions that were presented to them. Comedy and heart wrenching programs are in the making and can fill in after this fall's bloopers.
Check the Vacationers - Pres. and his men too! Another not at home alone will make a good show stopper.

Getting out of Iraq? Hold on, not so fast, they feel they are not ready to go it alone. Now what?
The President's men were ready to send Troops to other parts of the world, Afg. was suggested, after all Ft. Bragg has had a good number of younger men graduating. If only we could talk our way out of everything. We have as our leader one that should do the trick, or has his campaigning style of running the US Government fallen on deft ears?
We shall see...we can always send someone from Congress or former Pres. to express Obama's concerns.
Other countries should be aware of the fact we have our own country to protect, surely they do remember why all this happened - 9/11???

Out West with the President and his short meetings with the VFW. He stated that Veterans should not worry about their health benefits. So, why is it one Congressman that is a Wannabe Senator expressing his concern about so many problems that are not true? His child will be taken care of and although he is now associated with Congress, that Military Coverage stands firm. Explain that to him.
There is no need to bring something to the table to impress new voters in his area because he believes it is what they want to hear.
The coverage our leaders have is exactly what most of the non-coverage people want. Who pays what is exactly what we all need to know. Personally, I like my coverage and although it is tight some times, will stay with it - "until death do us part."

Anonymous said...

I have already turned off the two Senators, meaning Spector and Sestak. They should follow Casey's way of contacting or staying in touch with the people here in PA.
The Health Bill is important, but it is way to costly and not thought through. There are many other priority items that are of interest to most of us with families and the way both our State and Federal Government is doing business.
Exactly who is in charge of our Armed Forces??? Right now the answer is vague. The type of war seen for the future looks like it is going to be fought from the desk computer in Colorado and we can pick and choose where we are going to target our missiles. That is how CNN and Nightly News comes across. No need for airplanes or any type of new ships or subs. we will be protected from the desktop. Who will make these decisions if this desktop is to be the type combat seen for the near future?? Our President with the Red Phone and the 24/7 hookup? Well, then I would like to see our leader stay in one place and have a very comfy cot.
If any of the above were in place, how much of a savings would it be for all of us in dollars and lives?

Spot Photography for our candidates are great, except if you live near or in the area. I'm referring to Royersford/Spring City. This area use to be a thriving area and the TRAIN did run from Phila to Reading.
Now all of a sudden the new theme is "we need a rail system" to cut down on the traffic in the area. Just exactly who was in on the planning of 422 Bypass and the demise of the old rail system? We do know the Federal Government gave the rail system one great big push down the slope and our great State (PennDot)built the 422 without enough prior planning that made it impossible for the surrounding area to use it to get from here to there in a speedy manner. The cost was unbeliveable but not as bad as the "Big Dig".
So now we have money coming out of Washington (our money)that the Government is handing out like fake play money. Exactly where are we spending this money? Please do not let it up to our Governors with their greasy palmed friends, because most of them got us into this mess because of poor perpetual care of roads and bridges and will leave office for parts unknown.
No! I do not think we have any person capable of answering the question of who should be in charge. But, there is one thing certain the state should be responsible for its roads and the Federal Government Inter-state highways. Poor Planning has been the big problem so the need to get their act together is a must before spending any more money.

The "Health Plan" was not written by Mr. Obama, but his followers. I'll bet he has not read the whole bill. Our Reps. & Sen. also have admitted they also did not read it, but they have been picking and only discussing the points they are in favor of or would like to see changed. Sad isn't it? Well, now they are campaigning for seats they wish to fill, when at this point some Reps. have not really got a handle on their present job - so how are we supposed to believe they would be able to take on a more trustworth job?

Anonymous said...

The Town Hall Meeting as some people call a public discussion on a specific topic that is before Congress. Most people believe Health Care should be placed on our November Ballot after the final draft and a copy distributed to all Registered Voters so that we ALL CAN READ FOR OURSELF THE CONTENT. Why? Funny you should ask...Our Reps. & Sen. are only picking and discussing what they wish would happen and in a manner that gets the most coverage... They do not have to pay for the air time/print copy either.
A very different side of our Reps. and soon to be candidates showed on TV, did it not? I really like someone that does not loud-mouth his answers like giving a command. So, it seems the Republican Candidates won this round, although the Union Leader was quite impressive - large in stature only.
Well, the people have spoken - let's see if our Reps. & Senators listen...it is OUR MONEY PAYING THEIR SALARIES TO DO THE CORRECT THING FOR ALL PEOPLE THAT ARE CITIZENS. The UNIONS have worked hard to make sure the present administration got into office - so don't blow it fellows. I have your mailers that came to me by mistake (Bulk Mail? - not returnable). Our family relies on our present coverage and it does a great job from Birth to Death.

Anonymous said...

I thought the Post Office when issuing a Bolk Mailing Permit had to have their mailing list verified? Meaning what? That each mailer went to a person employeed or is registered with the company or organization.
Are Unions exempt? I don't think so - but here is where there is a breakdown of the Postal System.
Your junk mail Anonymous must have been interesting back in Nov. & this past May.

Mailing of Campaign lit.. I do believe they have a BULK Mailing system in place..Not sure how or to whom the permit is issued.
While looking up the word bolk, I found a word that seems to fit how our postal system is running and the word is Bolt "to move suddenly or nervously or move rapidly. But the word Bolt seems to fit politics right now here in Montgomery County and that meaning is to break away from or oppose one's political party. Right Mr. Matthews?

Anonymous said...

Political Signs are up and now the fun begins in Lower Providence. I do believe it will be a great year in all County and Townships for Printers and Trash Collection. We do have a need for fees in all Townships for every Political Sign and also the length of time they are permitted to stay in place - the old fashion way of campaigning.

The Mass. Police Officer, the 911 Caller and The Professor (friend of Mr. Obama) are now going to court?? Exactly why did our President think he should comment or even put his 2 cents in on this State/City case? As Mr. Clinton said - because I could? - when replying to a personal question.

Boston area has a very well trained police force - it seems the people they are trying to protect need to come down to earth-and off of "Do You Know Who I Am way of thinking and expressions - it showed last evening during the Presidential speech on his wish list & concerns to Congress. I'm sure there were many Dem., from the look on their faces, had the same feelings that were expressed by most on the Conservative Side if you would care to play back their reactions.

So, Mr. Obama needs to check at the door his remarks about any problems that are non of his concern - meaning Federal - he has enough to take care of without starting more Federal Problems that should remain within the State Government.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous you are right - there was a few years ago, the ruling that the number of signs had to be registered with the townships. A time line also was there for the removal and of course verification by showing the signs after the election to the township clerk. It would be a great money maker and environment friendly way of doing business if we set a date for removal and if the candidates did not comply, a $1.00 charge per sign for each day after the expiration date.

Is our President now trying out for a position on the nighttime circut? I have started to turn him off because he is over doing it when it comes to "his wants" and not "our needs"...

Anonymous said...

Mr. Obama's speech making of using only a few words and then a pause makes me want to say and ???? before the next word comes out. Turn off was his suggestion when it came to TV for our children. It truly is correct now. Newspapers are really getting to be number one as far as I'm concerned. These Blogs are also an expression of how most people feel - right or wrong.

It is time for our President and his Cabinet to ask the citizens of the USA what they want to happen.
So, far it has been their wants and we are now in the process of wait and see if their moves will be successful.

The "War" with so many Troops involved in trying to change the thinking of foreign countrymen is dragging on and we are now considering doubling our Troops to accomplish the "Mission Impossible". I do believe the CIA should be more involved in protecting our home soil and some of our Troops could be used to revitalize the economy.

We should not pour any more money into the Israel/Palestine War - Israel should not receive any more money until they stop building on Palestine Region's soil. When a neighbor treats another the way they are now being treated - no more funds, which we really can not afford, should be forthcoming.

Health Care needs to be thought thru when it comes to non-citizens..
We are in need of an 'enforcement provision by which officials can assure an illegal immigrant isn't getting access to a subsidy or the "exchange" that will make insurance options availabe to citizens' as suggested in Schram's Column.

So, Mr. President you need to get back to business because we are leaking all over due to plans that have not been thought thru...Haste makes Waste.

So, now we are exactly at the same place as our former President Bush was with our not too friendly citizens/non citizens living here in our great country and trying to do us in. We are to blame when we let our guard down and have our minds on too many matters that really only concern a few million people, but not the whole United States Population. We need to think like the al-Qaida and stop hammering on the last administration and also the previous administration before that. We need to stay on our toes! Right now we are doing a little too late or just in the nick of time...not good enough.

Anonymous said...

Right now it seems our leader, Mr. Obama, is just shaking his finger and saying "don't do that - we really do not like it" and for those that are released after being caught with the gun or explosives, this will not be enough, they are laughing at us and now we look like we are very soft on crime. Are we going to place them in jail and make sure their health/dental care is covered and they are fed a balanced diet? I would hope not

Concerning the housing etc. of detainees (criminals) from "G". Some housing and wardrobe problems will exist - consider most have only used USA as a stop-gap on their way to destroy us. Let them wear exactly what they have on their backs (they could be rinsed out every night)- it could get pretty cold, depending on where Mr. Obama (the decider)decides to place them. Food supplied to any of the above should not be of any special type - eat American!

It is nine months and now we are getting deeper in Foreign Problems. How does our President see Russia and China and Iran?? They are cozy, that is for sure. China is also one of our major stock holders - now how are we going to treat them? South American Countries could care less about our G20, we need them and Nancy "P" & Husband's concerns with "Dole", makes that situation more sticky. So many happenings and yes we have two wars, a health care that is iffy and the backing of some black horses by our President for the new offices that will or are vacant. What about a larger tax on cigarettes and cigars - PA has it on ciggies but not cigars, Why?? So many problems, and to think our former President had double the trouble this one has, because from time go we had the SEC,Mortgage Lenders and Dodd, then 9/11 with the United Nations sitting on their duff and a snales pace was how swift their reaction to the crashes and deaths of US Citizens. Our President, The Decider, needs to using his thinking cap and make decisions faster before the world makes them for him.

The flooding should be on top of the World's Agenda right now. A call from our Leaders saying "I am sorry for your loss, we will make a donation" -- does not fit the situation now. Former Presidents visiting sites makes for great press, but after while that gets very thin, as it is right now.
Our President and his wife are seeking the Olympics for Chicago - why? Oh, it will bring in tourist and that means $$$. Yes, but first we need a BIG cleanup, not only physical but in the attitude of the people living there. Crime, from the very young to the older population runs second to all the sites now being considered for the Olympics. Are we proud of that? I believe our President is turning a blind eye to his hometown's shortcomings when looking at this city to house the Olympics. Our government needs to stop printing money that has no backing and just say "NO" which would show responsible leadership to projects that would require an extensive amount of our cash.. We are unable to implement a new health care system without increasing taxes, although it may be done if the Bush Tax Cut is not renewed and the Wars End, as our President promised and Troops will be coming home. But, wait - Jobs where are they now? No, they were not there eight years ago, that is why we have so many Troops. Big problems that need to be thought thru before we commit ourself to any more expensive ventures.

Anonymous said...

The Olympic Committee has spoken - RIO it is. I feel they have made a good choice. Now, maybe our President can get back to his working agenda, it has been a little on the short end of his so called "To Do List" He has so far not left his Senator's position and now is a great time to start because there are quite a few more states that need his attention --49 sounds right!

Now the world has many places going up in smoke and our President does not seem to see the forest for the trees. Rome is burning and he and congress all have different ideas on health care for some of the many millions here in the USA. But, how about our men/women fighting on foreign soil? What is the "BIG PLAN" to bring them home? Oh yes they are there because??? -- we were attacked and where is the enemy??? Let get our ducks in order, and don't mean our youth.

Our Commander and Chief of Armed Forces needs to get his Commander part of his job in place. All the other Chiefs are running the show and he is just another talking head. Although he has no government experience, he needs to be a fast learner. Right now we are great on PR, but Iran and Pakistan are ruling the wars and could care less about our countries safty. Now, I wish I had voted for McCain.

We are there because we need to keep those that are dead set on doing us in live and have the backing of the surrounding countries. Other nations, now are finding out since 2003, that their countries are not safe either. The UN and NATO are trying to smooth things over - but right now we are all talk and no action. Because? I have no idea.
The hard approach used by the Bush Administration worked, but the Obama Administration is using the soft approach and it is making friendly with other countries. On the surface the surrounding countries of Iraq and Afg. are using the smiley face, but they are not our friends. Check their hands - both the left and right!

Mission Accomplished! Well the stimulus money must have been received by the state because the Highway Department has resurfaced 422 and improved the Exit of Rt29 with a Very Large Sign Stating that this where the Funds came from. Interesting! Exactly why was this money Zeroed in on this specific road when so many other State Highways are worse off? It is nice, but??? A little twisting some place, just like Pittsburgh??? Well all the bridge work can wait for another day and that is a long term job - this surface appearance is needed NOW! We are having an election you know - yes indeed.

In just one morning I read three papers and listened to CNN, 103 and the local news from Phila. It is great having a day off with nothing really that needs to be done now.
So, the Liberals are not permitting the Conservatives Health Care Amendments to be introduced or out of Committee. Most of the amendments were to assure no non-citizen would be covered..So, that was why SC Wilson was so upset?? Well, he was correct in stating "You Lie!" because our President already knew this. Tish, Tish, and now he has the Peace Prize for his wish list that makes people feel good about life??
Let's Make A Deal with the various insurance companies - or will there be only one for all using our Government Plan. Another was a suggestion that a company would cover the healthy and those without long-term illnesses. Still another said the fair way would be the type of work you are involved in,your age, where you work and the income or potential. The GOVERNMENT would decide all of this FOR YOU. Interesting!
On CNN 103, there was an interview with our Secy. of State and she said she is looking forward to retirement. It might be sooner than later, the way our President is treating her and her judgment calls. She is working outside of her field and we truly can not have anymore "In Training" around the White House - we already have way too many now, starting at the top.

Where and when will they be available -- November is the month there should be enough of both types..we will see. In the mean time, stay home as Mr. Biden suggested a few months back, but don't turn on your TV our President suggested, read the local newspapers to bring you up-to-date on when to venture out and get that shot(s). Guess our trip to Auntie Z's house for Thanksgiving is not a good thing - but where is she? Maybe she will be invited to the White House with the Professor for a Beer/Wine/Tea Party. So many things going on it is hard to get any play time in with the family and kids - now wait I did see the dancing on the White House Lawn. The world needs to just stop so our President can sit down in his comfy chair in the Oval Office and attend to business - the chair has to be dusted first you say?? It has only been nine months and now we need to outsource our cleaning personnel for training. Now, what about the turkey for Thanksgiving? Oh, the day is called "Peacegiving" now! Sorry!

Anonymous said...

I hope our President gets back to the good old USA in time for our "Peacegiving Parade" formarlly "Thanksgiving". Now we all need to worry about the "Christmas Shows" that attrack so much attention - will that name also need changing maybe to "The Winter Shows"?
We will see how much our President gets that are on his "Wish List" and also the "Families Wish List"..
It possibly could happen to all holidays if the idea that our President can change the name and how we celebrate various holidays, even if it were only for his four years in office. He said he wanted "change" and "transparency" in the handling of our government. It looks like, transparency, "Peace" and any award connected to the awarding, legal or illegal was not in the mix or is that just one of those slice and dice things?

Obama visited New Orleans today and a new article written by Mary Foster states Interracial Couple denied marriage license. One reason is marriages of Interracial Couples do not last and children are discriminated against. Tell that to our President and this on the day of his visit? Not good! I believe the Attorney General needs to look into this or our President needs to have another Beer/Tea Party at the White House to splain the rules according to our President. A need to follow this article, because we have given tons of help both money wise and materials to this area. Our children spent many weeks helping to clean up, while the Governor sat on her hands. I have a very long memory when it comes to have and have not, because I happen to have been on both sides at one time or another. Federal Action & State Needed!

Not To Worry? People in New Orleans and the whole USA,Canada and the Whole World in fact because we are there for you,& if our President could he would give you the shirt off his back - but money right now is tight and the laundry will have to wait. Told you so! Now one TV Channel has been telling it as they see it, giving the whole USA another chance to check out facts. This is not the most popular Channel watched by our President and his men - but our President can turn it off - he does have ABC,CBS & NBC, plus CNN+ Channels to help all of his causes. Most Presidents have had a problem with Radio Stations, TV Stations and various Newspapers because they do not agree with the way our Government is being run and the decisions made by our Presidents - but that is to be expected. Not everyone is lovey, dovey with the administration but then life would not be too interesting if it were.

Always give this marriage thing some thought - Oh so much in love will never last. Home and Family must come first and that takes a lot of giving. So, if color of skin is no problem then go for it, but think long and hard before committing.

Job loss when a company down-sizes or merge, should not increase figures in the new-hire column when the company gets up to speed. NEW jobs being CREATED is exactly that not a call-back. Out of the unemployment (down-sizing)column and into REhire Column. Let's get that straight! The state and county are great on fudging figures like the above. Call in the big guns that know how to rephrase how the workforce is doing seems to be working in NJ.

Anonymous said...

Well tomorrow evening the great minds get together to discuss the local and federal government issues. Our Commissioners here in Montgomery County would like any person working for the county to stay out of all campaigns and now it is in the court.
Well, looking at our Federal Employees there seems to be NO problem with our employees, on both sides taking time off to help another campaign. The greates offender right now is our PRESIDENT. Who is Paying his Salary as President? Right now he will be NJ and VA - to raise funds and awareness of His Choice for Governor. The time, transportation and other Federal Employees that make this happen, should be paid for out of the National Party (Dem.) that has scheduled his appearance. Looking at our Economy and the time frame for him to make decisions on more important things - would not a letter or a taped speech, like the one to students, be sufficient? Its cost would be?? A good leader would try a little harder on trying to keep the EXPENSE SIDE DOWN. So far our President has spent over half of his time since January, campaigning for someone, trying to get friends out of tight places - but not paying too much attention to THE FEDERAL BUSINESS. You have noticed this have you not?? When Mr. Kerry made a statement about what should be happening with the WARS, it shows maybe the Dems. did pick the wrong man. The time is now, decisions need to be made, our Troops can not wait - the men in charge should be taken seriously and followed. If our President does not feel the men leading are not suited - then tell them to come home and explain to our Troops WHY! They deserve an answer NOW!

Anonymous said...

Those "Speaking Engagements" are strictly "Fund Raisers" and any person in office may NOT ACCEPT payment for their appearance/message. The good old USA is funding the Engagements. Interesting isn't it? Just think how many miles, attendants, and those writing his speeches cost the US Government in the guise of PR Engagement? Maybe Mr. Schumer, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Conrad and Mozolo from Countrywide could help our Treasury explain this type of write-off. If they have not figured a cover-up, maybe the in-house gentlemen David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel and also don't forget the Communication Director, Anita Dunn are great dancers. Did you say our Vice President just sits in Washington while our President isn't in town? No! No! - back home in Delaware again and with jobs for his fellow men/women. It is nice to have some person of importance in Washington isn't it?
Well, who then is running the country? Oh, yes we do have the old tele don't we and THE STAFF are working on the President's NEW STRATEGY FOR THE WAR our Troops are wondering "How Many More Lives, Mr. President?" and so are we!

Anonymous said...

NEW STRATEGY FOR THE WAR!
Which "War" is Mr. Obama speaking about? Are we going it alone - Again?
We have a leader that is a novice when it comes to governing, financial responsibility and Wars.
He should take the advice from those that have been there and done that and never should we go it alone again. We were attacked and the first move was correct, but as for Afgan Gov. they really did not help us after their leader was overthrown and now they are on our Relief Books. We do not have any more money or Troops to help them to survive. Their OIL should do nicely if they are willing to share the profits with all tribes.
Our President, Mr. Obama, has had enough time to decide in which direction we must head. Rome HAS burned, now we need to CHANGE DIRECTION?? The other countries are watching in amazement that we, the greatest nation, can not make a decision without a few weeks to think it over, between public appearances, as it seems. Wrong choices were made back in the fall - now the payoff. Not so much this generation, but the following will really feel "Change That Never Happened!"

Anonymous you surely mean Iraq when speaking about the dismanteling of the government after their leader was captured, etc. and their oil production should keep their Government going. As for the balance of your post, I believe you are correct. In generations to come it will be called "The change that never happened." Debt that will never be paid and the gold system is surely in doubt.

Hope you had a chance to watch part of Franks' conference on the finances of this great country today. The questions asked were about how they see paybacks and Federal banking/investment banking. I'm sure every person that thinks the leaders appointed by Mr. Obama are great - but, watch your holdings. How about the little banks that communities trust - but not our governments way of trying to run them or put them out of business? What works for large corporations does not always work for small banks or corporations, nor should we hope they would. Keep it simple, as it was back in the era during WWII. Times were very hard and money was short. We lived with what we had and families learned to share their homes & finances. Yes, anything we have now is "Because We Earned It!" Too much Government help will cause more people to give up and let the government keep us...NO!

Anonymous said...

Way back one Poster talked about "O Based Budgeting" well, now is the time if we continue to dismantle the whole way our Government is run, and has been run.
The Government is trying to do everything for "We The People" so that life will be easier - now that is too bad and sad. In order for a company to grow - they need to experience the ups and downs. If the government has its way there will be no need for various contracts - and competition - legal minds will not be required as the "Leaders in Washington" will tell us exactly how high, but don't asky why. Too much is made of mistakes made way back and praise for the person who presently expresses how we should(think)will correct all wrongs. Right now, too many $$$ are promised by our President and His Men - go check it out! Now, let me see Ten Months and Counting! We now have two wars and forces in how many other countries and tip toeing around all surrounding countries. Things are hunky dory (sp??), but you get the drift. It sure is a CHANGE!

Anonymous said...

So far I have seen nothing good come out of the new banking regulations. Many locals are no longer and many employees are without money coming in because, they worked and did their job, but that is not how the regulations coming out of Washington are now. Too bad! The economy all over the world is BAD - but our Government is now making it worse by not taking into consideration the human side. Businesses that are just making it by paying the interest or whatever possible are now folding, because the newbees are in charge and they need to show their worth. It reminds me of the 1950 era.. merge! Who cares if people (employees) that have long stood by the company, no longer have a paycheck, it is for the Investors and the need to "grow the Company"!!!!

Anonymous said...

I like the name "Newbees" which covers all the Politicians now in the President's Cabinet (including himself). "I have a Plan - "Change" and if it does not work out we will try something else - but I, as President of the United States will decide" - It went something like that...So, now we are down to something else, right? Business is good with the car dealers, because of the clunkers - but now?? Small Banking/Investment firms that did not receive "Bailout Money" are in better shape, because they had to go it alone - but the government now says "Yes, you were doing well without our help, but we now have a better way?? Really?? I love my bank and the way they have handled my funds and when situations existed a small loan or amounts due was considered & available. But, now "we have a better way" is taking away all the confidence the Executives and Workforce had in their ability to do business in a fair and timely manner...Too Bad! That is one "Change" and it is "Transparent" - Making a Name for Yourself is the motive - not US.
TEN MONTHS AND COUNTING - STILL WATING FOR A CHANGE THAT IS GOOD FOR US.

Health Care - Nancy is SO HAPPY. What about Non Citizens that go to the Hospital? We will cross that bridge when we come to it? The bridges need repair now? Companies that hire these people will have to cover their medical costs and they in turn will need to have basic insurance too. Yes, it probably will never happen - that is why we are in the situation now of too many non-citizens. So, where is Obama's Auntie? This is just one case of looking the other way and it continues to worsen.

Anonymous said...

The Texas Shooting - Will all the families involved have some kind of medical help? The Troops that were doing their paper work before shipping out - special medical help from whom? Is this type of coverage included in the Health Bill heading for the Senate? A person that has never been in combat should never try to lead this country during war time or in fact any time - There needs to be a "Special" person in charge of the Armed Forces that has the ability to make decisions because they have been there and done that. I know that isn't the answer, but I am truly not too pleased with the present administration - too many "big" mistakes and funds used to cover the errors for now and the years to come.

Anonymous said...

Has our present Administration really took a good look at the CIA and FBI? Our last Administration was blamed for not talking directly and heading some of their advice - Pot calling the Kettle Black again.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 11/10 - You mean "Heed" their advice. This Administration may also be accused of the same. They are now spread too thin at the wrong places.
I watched the Memorial Service in Texas today - If Mr. Obama is really concerned about the whole Military Family and what they go through - he should pull our Troops out of the two wars and concentrate on how the FBI and CIA can help him and the military here at home in ways that would keep us safe and encourage other countries to do the same. We now are trying to tell other countries how to conduct their business and here at home our businesses are falling apart. Too many "questions" on "who" is in "charge" --!

Anonymous said...

You talk about the Fox in the Hen House... Our Government still has Dodd calling most of the shots when it comes to Finance Fixes. This Administration has a very short memory - remember Fanny Mae and good old Freddie Mac?.. Every person should be able to purchase a home..even if they only work at a fast food or minimum wage job and no money in a bank - what a great idea?.. Now we are going to follow his lead when it comes to Banking and Federal Reserve and all funds connected with them?

Anonymous said...

Watch and see how many follow Dodd. I watched Channel 124 today and that truly was inspiring because of Veterans Day. Tomorrow is another day - let's see what shows - I hope the Pentagon Personnel comes up with something that is truly worth while for our country..they can't all be accompaning our Pres to Asia - maybe our VP will rest down at the camp, just in case we need a few jokes on how we should run the Army Headquarters and the whole world in general.

Anonymous said...

The one most important item that should be addressed by Mr. Obama and that is unemployment..Jobs! No matter what the world thinks of us - we must survive. So far our new Administration has taken care of the Automobile Industry, Housing Industry - to a point and Banking - almost to the point of distruction. The plan: Tear Down everything that has been doing fairly well and needed a little tweeking and Rebuild in the manner we would like it to be. How many people are out of work or will be within this month or so because of this frame of mind that our present Administration has?? -Hundreds in the tri county area. We need a leader that can settle one thing at a time and right now nothing has happened - just a lot irons in the fire. The time, Mr. President has come and you need to sit down and make some decisions on the Wars,Homeland Security,Employment,Banking and the Federal Reserve. We have need of excellent leadership and right now it only looks like a figure head without decision ability.

OK, Why did Holder invoke state secret priviledge to block a case from proceeding in court? Who leaked the Afghanistan Policy Information? Fire Them? No! No! this can not happen under OBama's Watch -- it looks like nothing has changed from the Bush Administration. And now should we have a "See You In Court! You blew my cover, etc. etc." Round and Round it goes...
Another great mistake by our present Administration - Firing of a Therapist (Manion) at Camp Lajeune because he told of the conditions they had to work under with PTS. It did get results, after Gates read his mail. But, to fire a person for going to the top in an effort to get results - only in this Administration and the Clinton Administration --Don't Ask and Don't Tell fits here too, but for a different reason.

Anonymous said...

I believe OBama should be assigned to the UN - He seems to be more interested in how he would like all Nations to run their Government and treat their people.

How about our Military - Is he going to just let them out there hanging? The Decision Maker - he did say he would be making all final Decisions - so, what is holding him up. He certainly has enough, so called worldly advisors at his disposal, although it maybe only in name to help him make the correct decision. His inability to make a decision is one great big mistake and he knows it but if he keeps on the move and making more speeches maybe the world will not notice it. CNN (Mitchell)certainly has been trying to keep a cover on this. Tomorrow, I'll watch Fox 29 to see what they are saying. It's just like shopping for clothing - check all labels.

The Man of Change, Mr. Obama. The Man of Peace, Mr. Obama. The Man a giver of Health Plans for Everyone - no new Taxes, Mr.Obama. The Man!??

He has made a decision, after discussing the Wars with his cabinet and the answer is ... We will send 40,000 more Troops and get this war over with? McKristel (sp?) asked for them how far back? How many more young men/women were killed while he fiddled around making jolly? The announcement will be forthcoming before Christmas so we can all be Jolly.

Now how has he decided to fix the job market? Where is that on his agenda? We know the Feds are having a rough time and financial institutions are just playing it day by day, because Geithner, Treas. Secy. and former NY Fed. Reserve Pres. is playing the blame game and is trying to distance himself from his voting record when with NY Fed. Res. It is going to catch up to him, so watch the sparks fly. Change is or will be good. Back to the Job Market .. when will Mr. Obama and all his men show us something that works within the next month or year - we are listening.

Anonymous said...

The spoken "word" is "change"! You did hear that last year, right? Well, no jobs is one that has happened here in our area. It is looking more like a Charley Browns' Christmas with that beautiful Christmas Tree. Glad I have my so called "Christmas Club", which is just a certain amount I place in my savings account and do not feel too bad when I withdraw it in December. My gift to myself and my family.

Mr. Obama has a way of talking that makes our country look like the top wimp when it comes to leadership. What it all comes down to is we need to turn the other cheek if some country attacks us and give those involved a nice warm bed, clothing and a roof over their heads.
Of course the last administration did not realize nor would they have believed that they really only wanted to play games and that these people did not like the way we were treating our citizens and citizens world-wide. So,they will continue down this path.
We have not succeeded in bringing any top terrorist to justice and all countries seem to be training more young people to take over. This is how the world is run and will be run. If we pull out of Afg. and let their people run their own government, how many more attacks do you see in the near future on the US? After Korea and Nam, there were non, but the fighting by our forces was over and we still have the medical showing of these wars, plus WWII.
So, do you now think it would shame the US or considered just common sense as Truman did???

Anonymous ll/8 posted a question Where is Obama's Auntie Z? Is she here on the rolls and how does the First Family feel about her being here with out the papers giving her permission to extend her visit. She was denied over a year ago her request for an extension - so, where is she. They do have Doctors in her homeland so that can not be the reason for breaking the laws of OUR Country.

The White House Circus or Tenting Tonight.. If the weather were beautiful and a warm breeze was blowing off the Potomic it would make some sense to have a dinner on the lawn. But, a Tent? It is nifty to be thrifty but there is a point where class and tacky seem to be not considered, especially when it comes to a STATE DINNER.
The cost? To prove our President's point of using Tents to entertain would be interesting. The question also should be answered too is the over-night sleep-overs? Will we now have sleeping bags and port-a-pottys with a garden hose to use for washing up after using the facility for our honored guests to use? So, many questions that need to be answered. The cost of outside maintenance of the lawn and gardens vs inside sleeping and cleaning up after a visit, what would be the cost difference? It will show, but we the people that employee these outings/innings should be kept in the loop. It would only be the proper thing to do.

State Dinners and Down Home Cooking Using Only White House Home Grown Veggies.
It is the way things were or are done in Chicago. Let's take a look at Chicago and the State's Yearly Bashes so we can compare former State Dinners. The train tracks are still there so communication is great, the horses will be stabled down town near the live stock for all invitees not using four wheels of some type. The food should be great, there are plenty of unemployeed personnel out there with different backgrounds and talent for cooking,(no not those on TV) with or without a stove. Now how many servers were at the White House Tenting? Surely they could rely on these people from Chicago to do a great job? Just kidding, I believe they were all from Washington's Rolls.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Obama is really trying something new while he has the space at the White House - why not? FDR served Hot Dogs at his first State Dinner, but not on such a grand scale as our present leader. The only change that would look kind of tacky would be a Beer Blast-Smoker for all his friends. Well, no there are quite a few Beer Companies that would love to see their names appear on the written nightly along with the new Adams Beer (slightly costly)and of course that would be imported making the whole bash an international function. International Relations Chicago Style!

Eleven Months of Change?

Last Evening we watched Frank Sinatra (Blue Eyes) and tonight is the new talk show personality Mr. Obama. I believe he has settled on how many more Troops (Soldiers) will be sent to Afg. before Christmas and the time table for withdrawing, some or all and the conditions that will be in place. The new procedure on how to run a war - I believe those over there that wish us harm, can't wait to here all the details. Always tell your enemy exactly what is coming down so they can get their support ready. I realize that countries such as England and France can tell you how important it was not to publicly announce to the world your plan of action? Mr. Obama the invasion that took place on the French Beach during WWII and the number of our Soldiers that died there, please keep that in the back of your mind. Surely Mr. Gates can check his history book to see how it all came down.

Some Leaders learn from other peoples mistakes. Some Leaders only learn by making the same mistakes. Which of the above will hold true???

Anonymous said...

Anonymous I think by making the same mistakes over and over again. Did you see how pleased the Cadets were when Mr. Obama explained the length of time we would be in Afgan.? Some of the distinguised guests got caught off guard with their facial expressions - now that deserves a replay. I know one Marine from Berks County that will be deployed right before Christmas. I feel for his family, but look at it another way, some other Soldier, hopefully a Marine, will be coming home for his holiday with his family. So, change by increasing the number of Troops and also going into neighboring countries is what is coming down and by the end of Mr. Obama's Term, Obama's War, will continue on if not in Afgan. some place else - hopefully it is not here on our own soil.

Anonymous said...

Sure looks like Obama's wars will include Pakistan in the early part of 2010. So, we will have Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, if we are lucky and try to keep out of the other feuding countries by 2015 we will have some type of peace but with the whole world wondering WHY did we extend this type of war when the man of Peace was in charge, did we not understand when he said he would be the one that would be the decider and made that clear in every speech. So, Congress please check every move that is planned and get a second opinion or use your gray matter more often and stop shaking your head that looks like you agree with all that is coming down.

Anonymous said...

The Speech on his war plans - over. I had a dream that was part of a quote by King, but it sure fits now. Our troops need rest. If the UN and NATO are willing to fight on and on until the reason for doing so is a blurr - so be it.
We should only be helping to find the al-Qaida and Taliban within a country, because they were the cause of 9/11. Do not give any money to the countries in order to have them fight beside us to free their country. It makes no sense. If a country likes to live with the Taliban and al-Qaida, then we should leave and find other ways of keeping them away from our shores. No more smiley faces!

Who are they kidding down in Washington in regard to jobs and the many IOUs held by our Government that will never be paid for by the time our Great Grand Kids are out of college. Just because Geithner, Dodd, Schumer have convinced Robt. Gibbs it is so and he in turn tries his best to have the reporters write up this great accomplishment in their papers and on the news - does not make a big white one true.

Obama in Allentown said he was glad to get away from Washington. Well, Allentown sounds like a great place to visit. That was at one time a great place to shop. Hess Department Store was one of the best. Right now they are showing a great increase in the industry end - hope it keeps on going. The Keystone State has had more visits from this President than most others -Pittsburgh was one of his shinning go-tos for the G20 and Philadelphia of course. How many other Presidents found it necessary to visit so many times here in PA? My first voting experience was way back and I lost. - Dewey, I felt was a shoo in, but that was a mistake. I do remember Eisenhower and his family visiting and staying here. But exactly what has Mr. Obama seen in PA that needs so much of his time during the last eleven months?

Anonymous said...

Eleven Months and our New Administration has not realized that if people are working and their salaries for a 40 hour week is sufficient to feed and house them - they should be able to find some change to put away toward their health care. Work never hurt any person, but if you believe that purchasing items that you can not afford is correct, then our whole financial situation is doomed. The banks believed that the economy was solid. The builders, including Toll, built large and some tacky houses and charged triple the amount the houses were worth. Our government said all people should be able to purchase a home ... come on Fanny and Freddie lets bundle. Right now banks are in need of help because of the above and any person that believes his/her bank is trying to pull itself together should by all means purchase stock or CDs. I have stock that has not paid any dividens for the last four (4) years, but the company is starting to come back - I'm glad for them and all the employees. You gotta believe!

Anonymous said...

Our President is "Campaigning" for the Dems. that would like to be Governor or Senator in various states. Who is the most likely candidates. Well, Rendell, here in PA, certainly did not support Obama nor did some of our Reps. .. remember the bashes? Hillary was the one and of course, she was not the chosen one. Ooops!

Not all the money was needed says Geithner! Obama says, maybe we should use that money to create jobs!
Now, let me see... The money was not really there in the first place. We are drawing on funds that do not exist. Are these men for real? They are acting like it is play money. I believe Geithner overly stated the amounts, as some writers have stated...

Credit will be given to the Obama Administration and his men/women for continuing the Wars which will continue on into 2014 and then the new type of wars (100 year)will take over with the new techniques and less men, we hope...

The price of oil will continue to be high until the UAR decides differently . Hopefully we will come up with new ways of refining that will not cause so much in the climate change department. A more responsible attitude should take place so that our water, soil and air will be cleaner... I believe China is taking the lead in this department and India is taking the wait and see attitude... How much attention will the Administration place on the "Now Generation" after the Conference on "Climate"?? Will he only say "I'm concerned"... and let it go at that??
Yep! I'm a dreamer that wishes more Congressmen and Senators would get serious and stop looking back, but look to the future by changing the now so that our children will have a better future. If this Administration wants to make a mark in World History, they have many avenues at their disposal NOW...

The End of His First Year in Office!
After the conference on the environment is over or coming to a close, how will Mr. Obama feel about "change" and the time frame he has been suggesting? I have noticed the streams, with the head waters coming down from NY is not good for drinking or fishing. The shore is not the place to be most of the summer because of the washups and the Great Lakes have been another place that water is not fit to drink or swim in for years. How much longer will the Pacific and the Atlantic be the place to go for recreation? Just keep dumping everything and anything a certain miles out and you have nothing to worry about? Really? I have not read anything on a cleanup since Mr. "Change" came into office, have you??

Anonymous said...

Our President, Mr. Obama stated in an interview that his decision to send the additional Troops, was not without much consideration and after making the decision he had a very bad feeling in his gut.. it went something like that.. Well, how does he think all our young military men/women and their families feel? Many are serving because they believe it is their duty but not more than a couple of years would make sense. If we continue on the track we are now using, we will run out of Troops by 2011 - 2014, and then what Mr. President, the Decider.

Build it and they will come...I always believed Chicago, Ill. was the state and city with all the gangsters. But, now with the help of the present administration, we have Gitmo Detainees, as an eventual occupant, - although it was not built back in 2001 for detainees of this type. Well, with a little paint and a lot of reinforcement, plus the transfer of Federal Employees to take charge of the whole project. We will see many $$$$ flow into that state by means of new employees - Federal that is - and they will learn very fast what you say to the detainees that are classed - International - or how you treat them is oh so important. Visitors, after their trial?? Now, that is going to be interesting. I hope Congress does not permit a change to be made that would permit this to happen, because right now it against the law to house this type of criminal here in the USA. This is not one of those things that a few brews will take care of everything. We do not want criminals right smack in the middle of our country that they have tried to destroy - it does not make any sense. I know that our President thinks this is just the right thing to do - but we the people disagree - so our Congress better their act together.

Anonymous said...

Against the law!! So, why would our President insist these criminals be housed here in the Chicago Area? It will take an act of congress to OK this move - do you believe our Reps. and Senators will leave this happen? I believe that Gitmo is the place until each detainee is ready for trial. Most of the detainees do not need to have the four seasons as in Chicago, Ill. and the clothing that would be required. The people in that area, I'm sure would like work, but not the type that will require them to constantly look over the shoulder. Why would any person in their right mind think this prison would be a better place than the Cuba Area? The weather is fine, security is fine - water all around, well almost, and we will be able to bring the detainees one by one into Federal Court for their trials - simple as that.

Mr. OBama should be proud of his accomplishments so far, not necessary for all of them to be good for our Country, but the point is that he will feel good - that soft fuzzy feeling. When I looked out the window this AM and saw all the "Snow" and then turned on the TV to hear the "Health Bill" was a go...What came to mind "What A Snow Job" Congress is about to present to Mr. OBama. Now, that calls for a "Tea" or "Beer" Party if every I saw one. I hope we only supply "American Made" beverages!

Just a homebody our President?? Don't think so. He said something while running for office about being home in the evenings to say good night to the girls.. Exactly how many times has this happened? I'm glad his mother-in-law likes to girl sit and Mrs. Obama feels comfortable with being the head of the household in all ways. Now, we have not heard of book throwing and yelling as in the former Dem. administration, so this lady is very comfortable in taking over where the partner seems to be among the missing when really a conference call could have handled the whole matter. Looking forward to the next 12 months, with very bad feelings because the two wars (three)are not going well and cost more financially and lives and our Treasury is "0" minus, minus. We have run out of those gold bars and a note just does not cut it no matter how colorfull. Maybe we will be paid in homegrown vegs. from our non-victory gardens.

It was the Nite Before Christmas and all through the White House, all creatures were stiring because? Yes, Mr. Obama's #1 Wish was granted. Well Jubilant Senators are tiping their glasses of Beer on the White House Lawn, under the famous Obama's Tent, that is a sign of acceptance to all, well only if you have an invite that is. Have a great holiday and keep that jar handy for all that change at the end of the week, because you will need it from here on.

Health Care Overhaul! Mission Accomplished! Really? I'm glad the Republicans stayed the course and did not vote for this bill.
The most important item on Mr. Obama's Wish List should have been the security of our country, the return of our service men/women, then jobs and the climate. The Banking Industry was on the right track when the other administration was in control. The whole world's financial problems existed long before Mr. Obama and his men tried to fix it and now we are finding out they, our Congressmen and Senators, were one of the biggest problems and the Feds. were trying to explain why we were having the problem - ask Geithner, our Treasy. Secy. and former N.Y. Federal Reserve President, that helped us get into many of the problems that plague us now, he voted for them.

Long Distant Travel and Safety for all US Citizens should have been upper most in the mind of Napolitano when assuming her position. Our children travel a lot, and for her to say OOPS! Aviation Security System Failed??? WHY?? It is under her watch. No experience or training for this type of position, should have been considered by Mr. O'Bama. Maybe if we did away with the #1 Airplane for our Pres. many positions would get more thought before they are filled and we all would feel safer. Get a handle on this Mr. Pres. - there is only two ways for terrorist to reach our homeland and that is by sea and air. Homeland security should be uppermost in our Pres. mind. Other countries do not need his opinion on how to run their government, but we sure as heck need to make sure we are safe here at home and when we travel.

It should always be #1 on the list for our President - that is the safety of our American Citizens here and traveling abroad. After the last few incidents our leader is going to look into the breakdown?? I would hope so! He is the Commander and Chief - the Decider on all things, just like the former Presidents. Well, now his feet are wet and some personnel need to be changed if we are to feel free and his want for change can happen on his watch (4 years).

A must appearance for the Pres. & First Lady - The Awards at the Kennedy Center. I agree with the choice of three recipients, but Bruce Springsteen was a misfit. Jazz, Opera and a stage production great were above and beyond what most of us would believe to be called an "over-achiever" and excellent... After listening to the three recipients' background and the people who gained from their talent - Bruce just looked like he should have taken some type of lessons in all phases of music. Loud, I do not think is always good and this was one time. The President looked bored until Bruce's music was played and the age of those in audience showed their age, by their action. NJ and the street players may think they are great, but words written and sung need to make sense to all ages.

Going back to the beginning of the year...Nancy was going to change everything in Washington...A new health care bill would be presented and signed by the Pres. ... the Getno Camp would be closed and detainees would be sent home or where ever ... we would be out of Iraq and our Troops would be coming home by 1/10 or close to that time... the banking industry would be stabalized, because the Fed. Gov. is taking over... the Michigan problem would be resolved with the government's funding and of course homeland security, which should have been uppermost on this agenda, has not happened and is still in the planning stages after one year. ??? Now Reid and Pelosi should take a long hard look at what they have done to the economy - no it is not Mission Accomplished and Hope and Change by the President is gradually faiding away because of inattention to the matters revolving around the above.

Anonymous said...

Well Nancy complains about all the new rulings that they (congress & President)need to make to correct our government run policies. I do believe she had her little fingers in the pies longer than Bush or Obama. Not all things are in need of change - rewritten, I should say. Congress put their fingers into the Banking Industry, so banks made bad loans, because businesses went south, but for the most part Fanny and Freddy with a little help from some people now in congress caused the "Big Bang". I feel very sorry for the families that have lost so much because of job loss in the banking industry or because of their jobs being elemiated because of down-sizing. I realize new industries are being developed that will take the load off the banking and insurance companies their only requirement will be to check facts and submit reports in a timely manner. What should not be: it should not outsourced to another country. What should be: Jobs should remain here - We have quite a few very qualified individuals that are in need of jobs and are qualified to fill them because of working in the various industries.

We have problems! First of all Nancy Pelosi wanted Change for all of people here in the USA, you know health care and take from the rich and give to the poor non-citizens, etc. - I preferred the life-style I already was living. The whole "Change" she believes is the American way just blows my mind.
Now we have a President that says his people did not connect the Dots, on Christmas Days' Flight and not all passengers onboard were screened properly. How could this happen? Our children have learned from prekindergarten to connect dots in order to get the big picture. Back to basics Mr. President - You knew the problems Mr. Bush had and at this point in his Presidency. We should never have problems at airports anymore. The saying is some people learn from other peoples mistakes, some people learn only by making them. Mr. President and all your cabinet members should have learned by past mistakes made in the Bush Administrations first year believing that all nations are friendly and although we had problems here and abroad during the Clinton Administration no country would try another Pearl Harbor - but they did. NO EXCUSES! SECURITY FIRST AND FIGHT THEM ON THEIR OWN TURF WITH THE U.N. WORKING FOR US. Keep all the Detainees on the Island rather then here in our country. CONNECT THE DOTS!

Get a great education! This can not be accomplished if all college students sit at home. All our children will be on flights in the next three weeks - are we any safer than 9/11 and the years after under the Bush Administration? I'm getting that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I flew right after 9/11 and the Phila. Airport, at around 5AM, was empty . When checking in for a 7 hour flight the clerks said there would be no food service or drinks and of course they really did check my suitcase and carry-on. That same feeling has now hit our family of travelers - business and schooling as we travel overseas and to the southern and northern states.

The Economy is improving? My whole family was better off during the Bush Administration. Our children were well placed in jobs of their choice after graduation from college. Now, the jobs, in this past year, are going south and I do not mean to the southern states - they are just gone. After over 25 years of working in the financial end of one business - it now merged and all people associated with our establishment were caught up in a downsizing - termination. As a single person with a few children to take care of, in all ways, how can any person say the economy is looking good - for whom? Mr. Dodd will not seek office again, good. Mr. Geithner, Present Treas. Secy. and former NY Fed. Reserve Chrm. during the time Dodd and his "friends" were in control of Fannie May and Freddie Mac. Maybe our President should take a look at Geithner - if it looks too good to be true, then walk away - He more than not should walk away on his own as Mr. Dodd will be doing. Now Bernake, Present Fed. Reserve Chairman seems to have his head on straight - but the banking industry was really hurt by the FM & FM, which Dodd and Geithner had their hands in during the Bush Administration. Just a thought and I know Nancy will not be smiling on the above - but this would be one of my 100 choices.

Todays News sure is not making Nancy smile - Parker Griffith,a Dem. First-time Congressman (about Nancy's age - 67) changed his party. His values vs Dem. Party values (spending and health care reform) right now has caused this gentleman to say enough! Now, his staffers are going to walk out and show him what it means if buck the Party. I for one would not be too hasty - they are working for him and these staffers and party workers should make a check on his voting record first before saying - I quit - because I do not care for his values!
If there is any type of vacancy - please let PA Republicans know, I and my daughter will be there. Yes, we do have experience and of course know how form letters can be done with out a sloppy final version.

I really do not care if Obama wants Health Care First Nancy. What I really want is the economy stabalized and the mergers looked into, because there are a lot of jobs lost and Health Care will not mean one thing if a family has little or no income. A friend told me she was afraid of foreclosure. I told her to check with her bank to see if they would give her six months with payment on the interest only. She did that, but was told that that use to be the case, but now it is the whole payment or nothing. It sounds like a lose, lose situation.
Back during the depressed times 1950s, Savings and Loans and Banks did bend the rules to help their customers - our family was one of them. Where do we bank now? No need to ask - A friend in need is a friend in deed.
Our government is too big and pass fail used by the banking industry is causing more failing. Goodbye Dodd, Reid and Pelosi - there will be more to come.

Nancy will probably learn how to prioritize issues that come before her when her husband's company and his affiliation goes south like so many here, as one poster said.

Nancy's agenda and how much has been accomplished is interesting. So far I have not seen anything good come out of congress - but we did not have to draw-down on some accounts. The medical situation is going no-where, but they keep meeting and talking it up like we do not understand a single thing about our situation. Our jobs in the financial end are placing thousands of people on the rolls and now they are trying to keep their families together. It all will work out in a few years? Sorry, the whole situation has taken us down. Insurance, Banking, Auto Industry and our situation with other countries will never be the same. Now, who is wearing that lipstick???

Nancy's Congressmen most people believe are just shaking their heads so that Obama's wishes are granted - they never have been able to connect the dots. There are a few Congressmen that think they are ready for prime time and are opposing candidates of their own party for Senate Seats. What I really would like to know, without the expense of TV Time, is what they want to change, how they would have voted differently than the present Senator and how they see the whole process of ending the wars, which we feel is getting us deeper into another countries' war. I would hope when this next election is over we have a new slate of reps. and senators on various committees that are able to see the whole picture and not what their former career has taught them. The new education allocations should include funds for preK so they would learn early on How To Connect the Dots & slice and dice. Nancy, should have opposition she needs a little time off to recheck the whole picture that is now being presented to congress.

The Haiti disaster shows how inefficient our Government Agencies are when it comes to our own USA and the surrounding countries. When the earth-quake happened we should have had a relief plan(food, water & medical team with supplies)there in a 12 hour period...no excuse! Other countries sure showed up very fast - because they have plans made for emergencies of all kinds. After World Trade Bldg.,9/11 and Katrina, what have we learned?? It shows, according to my family, not much. Our man and his party heads should have seen something like this happening. We have had the floods and very bad cold weather --nature caused --now how about California/Nevada? Are we ready? Don't think so. How about the teams that are trying to destroy us--al-Qaida? Will they wait until all the problems here in the Eastern Section is taken care of?? Please, Mr. President stay in Washington and take care of business at hand. If your chosen are doing their job, you will be able to say with utmost certainty that it is done. So, far we only have that saying "I take full responsibility!" - but what good does that do, how will that statement change anything, tell me!!! This Administration knew when coming into office, because they were a part of the whole cause and effect, what and where the problems were. But, trying to connect the dots...they missed almost everything that we, the citizens here in the USA were concerned about. Safety,Jobs and the End of the War and our families would be united. The banking industry and car industry should have been left to fight it out or go under. Right now they are merging, laying off and the government adding insult to injury is taking them over and now we own the businesses... I'm angry?? You Bet!!

Down to the wire on Health Care Reform...If Nancy,Reid and Obama are counting on the Mass. Election ... that is only one seat/one voter to pass this bill...what does this tell you about why there is doubt in congress as to the basic concept?? The number of ear-marks is another red flag and also the unemployment statis that now is getting worse, instead of better. Jobs=money=ability to buy insurance=healthier citizens. Common sense is needed first don't you think !

Anonymous said...

Anonymous you are correct common sense is lacking in congress. Baby steps when it comes to health care should have been taken. Not all people need to have a one size fits all health care policy. People that truly can not afford health care (Dr. Visits and Hospital stays when they have an emergency) should get relief. But, to force this type of care on everyone and insist they purchase a policy is unthinkable. We are facing a layoff in February and almost all clerical and class 3 positions will be outsourced and the institution will be moved to another county but the shell will be here to service customers with their loans and banking - we will be hurting for benefits of all kinds. Now this case should be considered along with the above. There is no need to change the whole system.

I have been concerned with the job situation and the funds, although small, in our Bank. They keep saying not to worry because they are covered by FDIC. Well, that was then (1 year ago) and now, according to an article in the The Patriot News, Harrisburg's News Paper that the FDIC Chief considers tapping the Treasury for Funds. This was in the 1/21/20 Business Section. Now, where should we be placing our concerns? Yes, it is JOBS - LESS MERGING TO KEEP JOBS HERE IN MONTGOMERY AND CHESTER COUNTIES, where the job market is VERY POOR. Our State Senators and Representatives in Harrisburg should take a good look at their home districts and see exactly what is happening and try to help those that are caught up in the various mergers and have lost their jobs or will in the near future if the whole situation does not turn around. The rolls that have tripled in the last 9 months will continue to go up. You say the economy is improving? Don't think so, Nancy,Reid and Obama and our Gov. Rendell.

My situation, if it were not for my husband's retirement, would give me approx. $900.00 per month to live on. I have worked 45 years for a not-for-profit institution. I enjoyed my work, but retirement now is not a joyful experience.

S.Carolina has a young man running for Gov. He made a statement saying his grandmother told him not to feed strays because they would depend on handouts and not find their own food. This sounds out of line with todays thinking, but what it really is telling the people is if we constantly feed (give funds/food stamps, etc.)to people they will never find work, no matter if it is in their field, but stay on the rolls. During the 1930s up to the present, many families find this is the only way to live. If states would provide training and insist after a period of time all people on the rolls must participate and then help them get a job - no excuses - our rolls and taxes would be lowered considerably. If this would take place, all people would be able to hold their heads up high and say "I earned it"!!!! Now, that would be the best teaching tool a parent could pass on to their children - a great way of life and happiness.

Last year we were discussing the "Census"... Yesterday the same discussion came up, but included the rolls that have ever increasing numbers. How is it when the caseworkers visit a home and they have x number of children, plus a mother & father or only one - these same children seem to look something like the children down the block that were interviewed before? Now, if this is the case for welfare families - then how in the heck are we truly going to get a correct census? Just thought Nancy and her crew would be able to give some input into this not even blue collar scheme that will make the whole census and the rolls not worth a hill of beans.

Anonymous 4/27/2009's statement on this Blog still holds true. A common ground sounds great, but when certain people believe they are right and then call any person not agreeing it is because of their political association. I believe if any law that is sound and is well written to prove the cause is right and the spending is within bounds, there would not be so much "NO" in Congress and work would get done for all to benefit. There was one HB 1388,by Executive Order, giving $20,000,000, for Immigration of Hamas Refugees to USA. I have not heard anything on this or read anything in the local newspapers. I did find this in a NY Paper, but not too much detail. Is this another way of showing the House of Rep. Transparency when it comes to business as usual?
I'm not too sure how much Kool Aide Nancy drank before the state of the union was broadcast, but just GLEE I have never seen before. The shaking of her head and hanging onto our President's every word was discussing - now that was not my statement - it was a few that were watching and are political involved. The I'm sorry state of the union speech was interesting and a promise to do better is what it all comes down to,but it will involve more spending now, no cut back or revisiting bills that were not supported by the full house. There still is something basically wrong with the leader's thinking, on the economy, jobs, Troops and the expansion of our Wars, plus the too big "Health Care" and cost needs a lot of work by both sides and updates given on their progress step by step to the public in the Newspapers. We will help Nancy and Obama connect the dots before it gets out of hand.

Most Congress Men/Women have not completely digested the Health Care Bill and now we have another -it is called THE BUDGET. I hope Nancy and Reid, plus our Reps and Senators from our and all other states have taken a FAST READING COURSE because they will need it. The fact that we have watched figures being transposed by both parties or that simple math was not their strong point while in school, there really needs to be a check and recheck before one single vote is taken. Funny math has been used this past year and I do not believe it will change - at least not on the tax payers side.
