Weekend Update

I'm going to start giving everyone a little update for the week on Friday's. I know, Saturday Night Live already has the Weekend Update, maybe you can help me out with a new name for the piece.
Anyway, here goes.
I'm glad the ARC ordinance was approved in Lower Providence. I understand there are some concerns with the wording of the overlay district, but hopefully the people behind ARC will stand by their plans to build what they have proposed to build and not take advantage of the newly passed legislation.
I told you Wood's in East Norriton was going to be sold. There's a pending agreement of sale for the property. The whole traffic argument is pretty bogus, though. I can't imagine any more traffic at a hospital than what I see going in and out of Wood's on a regular basis. I have talked to a couple of East Norriton officials and have impressed upon them the importance of making Germantown Pike two lanes in each direction.
Nothing controversial, but there it is.

Mr. Huskey, Mr Dininny stated Mr. Ed Rendell called him at home and suggested that having ARC in Lower Providence would be the best thing for the people in Pennsylvania. With Dininny holding the trump card, why did he not tell fast Eddie we will adopt the ordinance when he gives us the on ramp at Trooper Road and 422 going west bound. This ramp has been on the fifteen year plan for the past 40 years. I doubt that fast Eddie knows where Audubon is located. Score another for little Caesar.

Mr. Huskey. In reviewing your comments on the ARC issue I sat through four plus hours of it this eveing on the Townships channel. I was dumfounded by the fellow in the center of the head table suggesting it was his meeting to another elected official with the same title. Mr. Brown and Mr. DiPalo did an outstanding job relating their views on the covenant that was omitted, Ms. Alteri did not even mention the covenant. Mr. Sassu was the time master and did an outstanding job winding the clock, other than that he would have been more comfortable staying at home. The person in the middle patted himself on the back numerous times,
and wore out the gavel. Kudos to the writer in your Sept.14 letter to the editor, she said it all. There are five members on the board and each member has a say, the chairman conducts the meeting and with the help of the manager sets the agenda.(Roberts Rules) And please, we are not a police state, the police department follows the direction of the board of Supervisors, they would have been happy to be home with their families instead of four hours of nothing. With the Chairmans opening remarks the audience should have known it was a done deal. As one gentleman suggested future supervisors will be saddled with this boards decision, so what, the damage is done.

Stan... Germantown Pike improvement to two lanes in each direction is fine. The 35 mile per hour speed limit --- is it being enforced? ARC wording concerns of the overlay, traffic flow, open space and what NEW State Plans are now in the works to connect this area with the 422 Bypass should be resolved now. The State Highway System is great with their Poor Prior Planning (PPP) as has been the case in local/state improvements. Lower Providence has and had great Lawyers representing them and giving the exact take on Developments and the state's highway system. Now, the Supervisors need to listen and maybe there will be a rainbow at the end for ARC and Township too - hope so.

Is it true that Westover Country Club and golf course has been sold to a developer?

Stan-

I'm still amazed that residents of Lower Providence would prefer 200+ homes on the site where the ARC is proposed rather than a world-class museum with 105 acres of preserved open space! 200+ homes means an additional 600 rush hour trips a day through Audubon and we'd have to build another new elementary school for the kids who would be moving into the 200+ homes. This of course would raise our taxes again! I find it interesting that residents here complain all the time about overdevelopment but then they would choose that over the ARC. I'm excited about the ARC and think it will be a great addition to Lower Providence. I just think people need to do their homework before getting up and complaining about something that they haven't received all the facts about. Mr. Brown was the biggest supporter of the ARC up until a few days before the vote. Could it be he felt all of those 300 people who signed a petition against it might not vote for him in November? Good political move on his part. He knew the ordinance would pass anyway so voting "no" makes him look like a hero to those opposed. A covenant and an ordinance can be changed at any time if both parties agree( as we have seen in the past with CVS). This ordinance is the most restrictive in LP Township. I have seen nothing from the ARC that indicates they have bigger plans than what they have shown us ( which is a beautiful, tasteful facility on 19.5 acres). I have a hard time believing that after 12 re-writes of this ordinance, that if the covenant was so important, why did the BOS not refuse to set a hearing date until it was signed? Seems like none of the Supervisors pushed the issue. And yes, I agree Mr. Dinniny could have asked for the 422 ramp to get moving. It would help us out alot.

"Weekend Update" Stan, State Road Construction plans should be the primary concern when ARC, New Developments and any revised plans are being made by a community. 422 Bypass Trooper Road Ramp is needed and the widening of the Northeast Extension should have been considered before all the developments right next to the Turnpike took place over the last 25 years, give or take a few. Poor prior planning by the Highway System, County and Township has caused many problems for all of us. So...take a look at not only how much revenue a project will produce but how prior planning resulted in a job well done and taxpayers satisfaction with the outcome now and in the future.

We have planning in Pennsyltucky? I never noticed.

G-Town Pike should have been widened to 5 lanes 10 years ago, but it will take another 25 years for our useless, brainless, visionless "leaders" and PennRot to figure that one out. G-Town Pike needs to be 5 lanes from North Wales Road at least to Park Avenue, where the backup begins every morning eastbound, if not all the way to Methacton High School. For anyone who will complain that they'll lose property, that's the price you pay for buying a house on a heavily-travelled state road. For anyone who will complain that 5 lanes will hurt their quality of life or have a negative effect on their precious country township, please do us all a favor and move your small-minded self to Kansas or Kentucky.

Thank you, Stan, for pointing out that a hospital (which, by the way, will have many high-paying jobs) won't generate much more traffic than what's already there at dumpy-looking Wood's.

Stan
Why are you afraid to respond to posted comments? Where do you live in Trappe or another municipality and where ?Why are you afraid to answer a question if your paper personally covers Trappe meetings and events? Why are you afraid to answer if you did Councilman Carrig investigation or did you rely on others?
Why are you afraid to comment posted by a person to state by attending a poltical event if that is against the Sunshine laws? As an editor and paper these are pretty simple questions to answer.

Stan: I just finished reading all comments made on Weekend Update and would like to know how many residence in the 19403 Area are tired of having their addresses changed? It seemes to me the Postal System needs a change in management. If they need a sort number to find our address why not use 19403-07 for Audubon. We have a Post Office and it is not in Eagleville, but 07 is the Zip for Audubon. You know...Location - Location is everything for all, not just the Post Office.

Stan: Tom Borai has a good reason to complain about his address being changed to EAGLEVILLE. Why is it the Postal System can change the TOWN and leave the ZIP the same? The cost for everyone concerned and sometimes the insurance cost do reflect the town/city we live in. Be proud of your community... AUDUBON SHOULD HAVE THEIR OWN POST OFFICE ENLARGED IN THE SHOPPING CENTER WHERE IT PRESENTLY IS SITUATED. THE POSTAL TRUCK DRIVERS REALLY HAVE A VERY HARD TIME GETTING THE MAIL BAGS THROUGH THE LOBBY TO THEIR TRUCKS. This section of Lower Providence has much to offer the industry arena and also the vacation literature that is becomming available needs the location/address to be the same. No, more Norristown or Eagleville -- WE ARE AUDUBON!!
