Sen. Specter's Visit

Sen. Arlen Specter will visit us today for an editorial board meeting. We want to open up a portion of the meeting to you, our readers. If you had the chance, what would you ask the Senator? Please post your question here and I'll try to fit it into the interview.

Will ALL Federal Employees be required to use this new health coverage system and of course the double dippers (retired military) should be dropped from their present coverage, as this bill covers everything we are told. This one type of policy would save our government lots of money and paperwork.

Senator Specter what is your take on the Grater Ford Maximum Security Prison? Do you believe Electronic Surveillance is the answer vs Humans. I have visited this prison and my father helped build the hospital within the walls many years back, but the type of prisoners that are housed there now I feel are more dangerous than back 60 plus years ago and probably both systems should be used.

Senator Specter regarding education and the job market now and in the future. Some foreign countries have a system that when a child is in grade school, they are tested to see if they should go to a school of higher learning or a trade type school and from here on the schooling is funded by the government and placement of individuals in the various jobs they have been trained for is the end result.
Do you see this happening here in the USA, since we have such high unemployment and manufacturing is outsourced, so there really are only desk type jobs left or service jobs. We need to find an answer.

Senator Specter have you any suggestions that schools could implement to help stop the sales of various substances causing so much harm to our youth? Many students have no idea what they are drinking or smoking - all the kids are doing it they have been told. So, how can we as parents get a handle on this before it is too late. I keep on checking, but there will be a time down the line it could happen - any suggestions??

I listened Stan, but he did not really answer any question directly - he truly is just a politician. There is one thing that he needs to get acquainted with and that there should never be gum or any type of cough drop in his mouth when making a presentation. I believe he may be on some medication that gives him dry mouth - is he well? That is a question that was not asked - but that will come later on when the Primary Challenge on the Dems. is activated.

Mr. Huskey, let's face it,That man is so far over the hill you can't even see the dust he left behind.
Age has some benefits, not in politics. Pretty soon you will have to prop him up to speak.
He has to go.

Yes indeed he is over-the-hill when it comes to his age, but his memory remains uncluttered. I fear, as my other half, he not me, will need to make a decision on Primary Election Day as to experience vs want-to-be with only Navy experience and a dream that is not at all what we can afford. Our men in our family are all veterans and of course it goes back to WWII and Korean wars plus remaining in the Reserve System has helped all of us financially and now medical coverage. We have a great VA System and answers are available by just making a phone call. This above statement is because I feel we need a person with a well rounded history at this time before we spend $$$ that are not in our Treasury or no hope for the next 10 years. So all you Democrats check your candidates out before voting and then November your choice needs to ring clear.

Are you stating that Mr.Specter set up all the benies your talking about. My family both men and women served their country in all wars starting with WW11. The benefits that are provided for us was not started by Mr. Specter. He would like you to believe it, but not true. The other gentleman you are referring too is a Navy vet who came up through the ranks with a knowledge of the system. I as a registered democrat with my family will be voting for a candidate who will give a straight answer and not beat around the bush. (no pun)intended.

Memory uncluttered, did you not listen to the tape the Times Herald presented? If his memory is not gone, his honesty certainly has. God bless the U.S.A. The voters will speak in November.

Gone but not forgotten. First comes the Primary and then the big one, the November Election. Listen, read so that you will be well informed to make the decision that will make the difference for the next 6 years.

His speaking pattern has not changed over the years. What ever he had in his mouth during this interview should never, never have been. It made his pause and way of answering questions sound like he had a couple for lunch. I do not believe he ever took credit for establishing the VA System, but he has always supported sound legislation that would improve it.

We listened/watched your interview. Now, the comparison is?? Hope there will be more than the two on the Primary Ballot.

I'm speaking for the Democrats - we prefer non of the above, according to my husband and one adult child. Why? Check out why they (Specter & Sestak)feel we should support them. What a sorry mess.

Why are your ads so ugly toward your opponet? If your record and popularity was so great you would not have to stoop to such lows. It's people like you that forced me to stop voting !!

Don't stop voting - it is the only way to change the people representing you and your ideas and type of government you prefer. The Primary Election is VERY IMPORTANT,because your Party (Rep./Dem.) have placed on the ballot the people they feel are best suited to run this country. The NOVEMBER ELECTION is the final step and if everyone stops voting because they are displeased with the outcome of an election or how your present representative is voting, we would be worse off than we are now. So, vote and get your neighbors to vote also. Specter & Sestak are Two running for (Dem.) office - many write-ins are believed to be in the works.

The "D" Party is having trouble within! Now who tried to convince a congressman to take a more powerful position in the Government and not run at this point for the Senate Seat on the Dem. Ticket? Don't know yet, but it sounds like heads will roll. The new congressman that really did not see need to vote or actually be in Washington the majority of his term also does not understand why the request or suggestion was made. If perhaps the new congressman won the primary and lost the Nov. Election - then two seats would or could be filled by a Republican. You see he has resigned his position of Congressman and right now the Republicans have one great candidate to fill his shoes. As for the Senate - Oh, Please!

I understand why Sestak is running against Specter is he felt his age would be against him if he waited. Most people tried to convince him to wait for the retirement of Specter. Well, no he could not see their point and so Specter tried to keep the whole issue quiet, but the Congressman has a very high opinion of himself and it shows - good and bad.

There was one question I wish I had asked when Specter was being interviewed and that is - Who shares the ride home from Washington with Specter? Biden said he enjoyed the ride and the sharing of thoughts with Specter. Has Sestak taken on the Buddy System with any person or is he sharing an apartment like a few Senators? You know the saying - a clean shirt, a bottle of wine, a little comfort food and a cot on which I can rest my body after the days end is all a man could ask for.

The whole Dem. Party and their candidates right now is like a comedy act. I only want in writing why, the person is running for the office and their qualifications (honest) without the "buts"...and exactly what they would like to change and for what reason. This is just for starters and then after the Primary there will be quite a few more.

I believe Specter still has it together. Our family believes that no matter what happens on either side he will do the right thing for PA and the Country. So far he takes care of business first and is not absent, unless he is sick, when the role is called for a vote. That fact is the trump card for us.

It looks like Kerry's PR Personnel are on Sestak's payroll. Who are these men that are for or say they are in favor of Sestak? We had one father here in LP that held up a sign stating that the Vets. backed their son. I asked him which Veterans and he said - well, I'm one. So, one sign can be misguiding when it comes to who and why they make a statement.

Stan, I guess you can now close this issue. Specter has biten the dust. People do not care for turncoats. Time to smell the flowers Arlen. HAPPY tRAILS.
