Citizen journalism

Have you ever thought you have what it takes to do what we do? Or maybe, you think you can do it better than we do it! We're kicking around the idea of bringing in a group of people to talk about citizen journalism, which basically is defined as journalism in the hands of every day citizens. While that is a scary concept for a hardcore journalist to accept, we're not talking about bringing in people to do investigative journalism, we're talking about having a troop of citizens looking out for news in their neighborhoods, kind of a rookie journalist who has more will power than training. I know there are at least a dozen or so residents in Lower Providence who fit the description. How about the rest of you? You don't seem to want to talk about Obama's state of the union address, so how about chiming in here?

Mr. Huskey, Let me ask you this question. Would you actually print in your paper what a cub reporter would write? Or would it take three to four weeks for you to check out the story. I'm sure you have reporters working for you now that will not report the WHOLE story. We are forced to watch township meetings on TV in order to get all the facts. Thank you for listening, I think it's a super idea. Let's see how many takers you get.

I would love to be involved in Citizen journalism. Not sure people in LP would find my work un-biased due ot my current involvement.

We count on you the educated to give us great jounalism but if there are others who have the passion for writing like I do and can expose themselves openly should find pure satisfaction.

Best idea yet!

Anonymous said...

Stan it would be a great idea, but with your Blog, that is strictly for LP, we all can hide behind "Anonymous", and take our bad day emotions out in the column. Well, maybe the comings and goings in the various Townships would be great with a few people contributing. I'm all over the map when it comes to interest. The fact is my family does not live here in Montgomery County so whereever they are, that is where my interest is centered. Good Luck!

Here's a report for you:

Yesterday was the start of the National Tea Party Convention, which is “aimed at bringing the Tea Party Movement leaders together from around the nation for the purpose of networking and supporting the movement’s multiple organizations’ principal goals.” One of the featured speakers during the convention’s kickoff was former Republican congressman Tom Tancredo. Tancredo told the audience that the country had elected “a committed socialist ideologue in the White House” because “we do not have a civics, literary test before people can vote in this country“:

The opening-night speaker at first ever National Tea Party Convention ripped into President Obama, Sen. John McCain and “the cult of multiculturalism,” asserting that Obama was elected because “we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country.”

The speaker, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told about 600 delegates in a Nashville, Tenn., ballroom that in the 2008 election, America “put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House … Barack Hussein Obama.”

Given that the convention is being held in Nashville, Tennessee, Tancredo’s remarks are particularly offensive. For years, literacy tests were used across the South to disenfranchise African-American voters, who generally had illiteracy rates 4-5 times as high as whites due to historical discrimination and lack of opportunity. Unfortunately for Tancredo, the 1965 Voting Rights Act makes literacy tests illegal.

Back to the 1930 - 1940 era. We drafted all young men into the service as long as they were able to pass a physical - mental??? Not to worry, just like the voting booth - place X and have some person verify you are the correct person that represents the X. Oh, for Pete's sake - get a life. If you can read - good for you. If you are unable to read - sorry you are handicapped, but get some person to help you understand what is written and get help at your local school or through the county. I would be very proud to help you --- no $$$ associated with this offer. Give us a phone # - we are here to help you. A citizen that loves Stan's Blogs.

With today's technology, there are a ton of people who blog on a multitude of subjects. I myself have been blogging for years and find that each little arena has their own little community of bloggers. Some not so little, who engage in other topics outside of their initial blogging interests.

I took up blogging for business interests and it has turned into something that I enjoy and use to spout off about everything from politics, to poker, to entertainment.

I think the idea of citizen journalism will not only provide you with people who will be in the know (based on what happens in their own community), but also be able to give a very clear, open, and honest opinion. You will probably get a lot more bias than you want, but it will at least be genuine.

It's a great idea.

Maybe if Stan's blogs weren't kowtowing to Castor's big ego, Castor would get some work done. Where was his head at all this time, that now he is howling at the moon about perceived injustices regarding RFP's. Castor needs to get a life and stop wasting taxpayers' money!

Of course Stan won't allow this to be displayed in his blog. He only wants like-minded people who believe everything Castor says as the God given truth to post on his blog.

You are right, he would prefer we not place goofy statements on this Blog. Reread your post - I believe you are bias - because there is always two sides to a situation. Have you heard anything from our Commissioners and Mr. Miller that stated they were using the easy way out? That is exactly what has been happening and now their explaining seems to be ????

Citizen Journalist?

Scary concept for a hardcore journalist?

You are looking at the barn door while the horse is over the next hill.

The problem is the "Professional" Journalists don't take the time to get the stories right, whether it is here or on the national scale. Why would someone from the outside want to be infected with a "Professional" Journalism perspective. (Take a look at the Facebook group "Overheard in the Newsroom" for some of the attitude.)

The real issue is people don't trust your profession. Your profession sold out to Fox News or whatever corporate entity that says if it bleeds it leads. There is no real analysis, only echo chamber. How many stories about the President's Birth Certificate do we need to tell us that the gatekeeper function of the press is broken. How many times did you print slanted stuff on the ARC? I am left wondering how many letters to the editor have been modified away from the writer's original intent.

If you can gain credibility by using new blood from outside your profession, maybe you should also look at these new folks with an eye towards clearing out those in it right now.

But if you place the same restrictions on the new crew and use the same attitudes, we will be right back where we are now.

Maybe you should be emulating those who are going the citizen journalism route rather than trying to absorb them into your borg.

On my blogs (http://JoeTheNerd.BlogSpot.com or http://www.huffingtonpost.com/joe-the-nerd-ferraro), I write what I see - I fact check - do my best to get it right. What benefit would it be for me or anyone else who is doing their own thing to come with the Times Herald? Why would I want my credibility to take a hit?

Lower Providence has many wonderful places to visit - but today it is unbelieveable, just plain beautiful. Go for a walk and take in all that nature has offered us and "not to worry" about work or school. I could not believe our Mail Man actually walked most of his route and smiled doing it. What a wonderful day!

This is news to me. We are supposed to learn something new every day so I am sharing this little known fact with you.

The CEO of Red Lobster and Olive Garden

Each week tens of thousands of diners eat at an Olive Garden or Red Lobster restaurant. Few of these diners know that the CEO heading these large restaurant chains is a black man.

Clarence Otis Jr. Is the CEO of Darden Restaurants Inc., the largest casual dining operator in the nation. The firm operates nearly 1,400 company-owned restaurants coast to coast serving 300 million meals annually. Darden employs 150,000 workers and has annual revenues of $6 billion.

Born in Vicksburg , Mississippi , Otis moved to Los Angeles when he was 6 years old. His father was a high school dropout who worked as a janitor. The family lived in Watts at the time of the 1965 riots. In the post-Watts period, Otis recalls being stopped and questioned by police several times a year because of the color of his skin.

A high school guidance counselor recommended him for a scholarship at Williams College , The highly selective liberal arts institution in Massachusetts . Otis graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Williams and went on to earn a law degree at Stanford. Otis landed on Wall Street as a merger and acquisitions attorney for J.P. Morgan Securities. He joined Darden Restaurants in 1995 as corporate treasurer. He became CEO in 2004.

How many of us-or anyone else-knew this?!

(But we heard all about Michael Vick, didn't we?)

Ha Ha. I think the point is that there is so little positive news, with all the biased reporting at the TH and other sites, that this news is refreshing to hear, and not because of some obscure month that is the shortest, coldest, etc., that was picked for Black History month.

Just like the biggest fish caught raising pitbulls to fight was Floyd Boudreaux and son, Guy Boudreaux, Arrested by a caravan of vehicles raiding his establishment on March 11 including a SWAT team. Look him up. He doesn't look anything like Michael Vick. Even had a website.

This has nothing to do with any comments made on this Blog. What amazes me is the terms used when a person responds to another column's reporting...the term is "---"fired back" --- it reminded me of Gibbons that was on the staff many years ago at the TH. I can not believe Hoeffel could "fire" anything, although the color "red" of his skin when he is questioned on any topic that he does not care to respond to reiminds us of "fire".

I've been told that your a real ball buster when it comes to politics in Lower Providence. with all you have to say about nothing you should pursue a position in township politics. You would fit right in with the other windbags.

Billy B? If you are going to take that many shots at me in one paragraph, maybe you should fully id yourself too.

Shot 1 my beard (I like my beard too, thank you.)

Shot 2 my time management (when you are at something long enough, you know where to pick your spots. It just seems like I am spending more time than I am because I have seen some of this stuff before. I also like the subject of politics –some people collect stamps, others like woodworking, this is my hobby.)

Shot 3 attack via gossip with crude language – who gave you the scouting report on me? (I can get other people to give you more scouting reports – good and bad.)

Shot 4 my selections as to where I stand up. You may call it nothing, but I am sure people living around where the ARC was supposed to be foisted on us may have a different opinion of my content. (Where and when do you stand up for anything?)

Shot 5 telling me what I should do with my free time. (What makes you think that helping find qualified people and helping them get into office isn’t what I like doing? To me this is an avocation.)

Shot 6 attacking people involved in township politics. (A very cheap shot at a lot of people, maybe we can’t get more people involved because of cynical attitudes like yours.)

Nice clip. Now let’s see YOUR street cred.

John Rafferty and the "Six Pack"...Thanks John, we are behind you on this one. When we need a large supply of suds we buy cases, but just for a normal weekend by the tele, two six packs or whatever is sufficient. Well, to tell you the truth, the frig. is too small and suds are costly, unless you buy Iron City - is that still being brewed?

Austin Beverage on the Ridge in L.P. stocks all of Iron City brews. If Rafererty's bill passes you will be able to purchase your six packs at all "CORNER" Drug stores. The best refrigerator you have going for you now, is the back yard snow pile. It keeps the suds so cold you have to wear a Michael Jackson glove. Stan, No I have talked about the State of the Union, according to Obama many times. Now, it is time to look at what state our Union is in after one year in office.
I read one statement that I found interesting about a God and Country Rally held in Idaho. It seems they requested his permission to have a "Flyover" which has been part of the agenda for 42 years. But, guess what "NO!" was the answer because they said it was "Christian in Nature"...??? This was a Rally for the purpose of honoring the New Military Recruits inducted into all Military... Can our Commander in Chief justify this "NO!"...???

Sestak says he was offered a "HIGH" Position in our Federal Government??? I guess the question is How High and Is he qualified? Who extended this offer? This will make a great story because so far we have seen very little action on his part that would benefit his locals. The Government Channel was suggested, on another Blog, for all Vets to check out - it is a great place and we do not owe our vote for the information. The reason I mentioned the Veterans, is because Mr. Sestak uses this as a high point in his accomplishments outside of the Navy Career.

The ketchup as a vegetable controversy or ketchupgate refers to a proposed United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Drug Administration directive, early in the administration of Ronald Reagan, that would have reclassified ketchup and pickle relish from condiments to a vegetable, allowing public schools to cut out a serving of cooked or fresh vegetable from hot lunch program child-nutrition requirements. The White House Office of Management and Budget estimated a potential US $1 billion annual savings in the cost of subsidized meals for low-income students.

Laptops in Students hands?????

One of the topflight scholl districts says the Inquirer. The Governor says Lower Merion is the riches school districts around. 2620 computors given to students last year. I'm afraid the school may see me in the shower.

Give me a break. Who in their right mind takes their computor into the shower?

Solution to the problem....

Have the school district recall all 2620 laptops and have the parents purchase their own. After all, if the parents are living in a home assessed at $775,550 they should have had the resources to pay the $55 insurance fee.

Donate the computors to a school district who could use them as a learning tool. Students are not dumb, they know that the little dot in front of the lap top is a camera.

The parents solution....sue the school district...why stop there..
sue the maker of the computor, sue the person who install the tracking device, get on national t.v. brag about Mrs. Clinton having lunch with you....Who cares.

In the final result Lower Merion will probably have to raise taxes. The latest news " A federal judge opened filings in a law suit alleging racial bias in Lower Merion. Who wins in all the law suits? Surely not the tax payer.
Maybe the Ambulance chasers.

Just read about the Farm Workers Temp. Workers Legislation (H-2A). It seems that Farmers that do not want to do the paper work are a little ticked off. Well, I believe some farmers around here are all ready ahead of the game, because there was a Want Ad in the paper for Seasonal Workers and an address & Phone Number to apply...work time frame was April - November. What they, the farmers, do not like is the Labor Department will be establishing National Electronic Registry of Farm Jobs and the workers will not be able to just hop from one job to another, the farmers will be accountable for their return to their homeland. The wage and housing also enters into this situation too - this is a great start on the immigration problem.

So, what's your point? Yes, let's blame the parents of a person who seems to have been having mental issues. Could be the blame goes back to Reagan who let mental patients out in California to save money for the rich folks, so now there are the "regular" mental patients and veterans of the Armed Services with mental issues homeless. Can also blame Bush for his poor record on sending vets back to war when they shouldn't have been cleared for duty due to PTSD. So, your blaming the parents is really short-sighted!

Story:
Facts:
2/24/10 LP Township calls a state of emergency until Saturday 2/27/10.

The emergency requires only cars properly equipped for heavy weather may use township roads.

Methacton School District remains open in 2/25/10.

Large flake snow is already falling in the school district at 8 am 2/25/10.

Questions:
If this is a safety issue for LP Twp at large, why is it not one for the Methacton School Students, Faculty, and Support Staff?

If a staff member cannot travel to school because they do not have snow tires or chains will they be penalized by the school district for following the law?

Are any tickets issued by the LP Police Dept to Methacton staff the responsibility of the school district?

Is it a proper use of tax monies to only keep the school open for a half day or less?

What is the level of instruction being given on an abbreviated day?

Is keeping the school open for a short time a cynical method for notching one more day towards the state minimum requirement for the education calendar?

Why is there hesitation to extend the school year further into June as opposed to removing School District days off that correspond to religious holidays?

Is this a legitimate story?

Unknown said...

Update to previous post -

At 9:55 I recevied the robocall from Methacton School District that the high school was being dismissed at 11:00 am.

- The administration has clearly thumbed their nose at authorities who have legitimate concern for the safety of the community. If a student acted in a similar irresponsible manner, would the school district throw the book at the student?

- The school district has now pushed the panic button for a parent who had gone to work thinking they would need to be home at the end of the day. This is a far more stressful situation for the parent who now needs to scramble to find childcare for the afternoon; since having small children enter a house unattanded is an irresponsible move for the school district. Methacton is putting parents in a sometimes untenable situation with employers.

- Is one hour notice enough for parents?

- The ripple effect of a move like this compounded across the region as other districts make the same types of calls can snarl the traffic system by creating one rush hour directly after the first rush hour is completed.

- Will there be an explanation as to why the administration overrode the safety concerns of the proper authorities, in this case the township acting responsibly to a legitimate weather event?

- This is a day nothing was done for the students. Does the state department of education have the authority to stop a situation like this from counting towards the number of days mandated for instruction?

- How will your newspaper seek accountablility for the actions of an administration that has clearly wasted taxpayer's tax dollars and taxpayers time as well as poorly serving those students they are supposed to care for?

I have always made plans for the children if there is an early dismissal. What really troubles me is why so many students drive to school. At one time, a student was issued a permit/parking spot for the days that he/she had to go to work or for some other legal reason for driving. The students on the roads early in the AM and then when the weather is supposed to turn making driving very dangerous, their should be a call in the prior PM, as the townships have in place and insist only students that are heading to their jobs are permitted to drive stating the school code covering their permit- we pay quite a few $$$ for bus drivers and maintenance - that is why our tax dollars are going up and the insurance by the parents are sky rocketing.

quoted today in AP:

pdated 12:38 a.m. ET, Fri., Feb. 26, 2010

WASHINGTON - The Veterans Affairs Department will re-examine the disability claims of what could be thousands of Gulf War veterans suffering from ailments they blame on their war service, the first step toward potentially compensating them nearly two decades after the war ended.

VA Secretary Eric Shinseki said the decision is part of a "fresh, bold look" his department is taking to help veterans who have what's commonly called "Gulf War illness" and have long felt the government did little to help them. The VA says it also plans to improve training for medical staff who work with Gulf War vets, to make sure they do not simply tell vets that their symptoms are imaginary — as has happened to many over the years.

"I'm hoping they'll be enthused by the fact that this ... challenges all the assumptions that have been there for 20 years," Shinseki told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview.

---------------------------
These vets were hung out to dry and not given the medical treatment that they deserved. Just like the TH hangs people out to dry with a one line comment and inaccurate information that they printed about a vet in their paper. The reporters were asleep at the job, only reporting what they wanted to and alleging that members of the vet's family were somewhere when they were not.

The sybil said...

The main reason LP Twp. calls a snow emergency is to ban parking on the streets so they can get their plows around when they need to. They only care about the snow tires/chains when the snow is really deep (and you know what that means from a couple of weeks ago) and some couch potato idiot finally gets up and looks out the window and remembers he has to make a beer and cigarette run on bald tires.

Yes, Methacton and all the other school districts around here bring in the kids for half days to get the state subsidy money for that day. They need every $$ they can get, or else we have to pay.

This year it might be possible for the Legislature to say that there were too many snow days state-wide and officially decree that the kids don't need 180 days, they can change it to 178 or 175. Some other states have already done that. Remember, PA still thinks we are an agricultural economy and they don't want the kids in school too far into June.

We have a home in our area that has been abandoned by the owner and there isn't any utilities available now and sometimes young people will use it for shelter. Now, what to do? The authorities know about this but there isn't anything they can do about it unless it becomes a hazard to the neighborhood. This property has had many problems, brought on by the owner's attitude. What really will happen is if the tax situation is involved, the house will be sold and hopefully some person will do a clean sweep so the neighborhood can again be proud.

TH giving Sestak a Break - are you for real? Sestak's name and who he is supporting for an office and where he is at any given time is in the TH. Why would you suppose he is concerned with this area that he has ignored from time one? Yes, it is a stronghold of the Republicans and he wants to replace Mr. Specter and in order to do this he now needs Montgomery County's support. So, he now is appearing all over the place and playing nice so his face is in all issues of the TH, Ptsn. Mercury,The Phoenix, and the Daily Local - check them out. A few dollars now will put your mind at ease when the Primary comes around. I'm glad I do not have your problem.

Using 422 is no pleasure since the Royersford Exit has a detour and the use of Limerick - Trappe Road needs to be used when shopping at the Outlet in Limerick Township. What road project is in progress in that area? Someone told me they are building a Private School and in order to speed things up this was done. Interesting!

A candidate for Governor from out around the Pittsburgh Area was supposed to have corrected all the ills of the area concerning unemployment and the practically non-existing manufacturing in the area. Well, how about the area that was doing well, but the steam plant is now going out of business because?? Taking credit for what - is what we would like to know here in the "East"???

Anonymous try going into www.donotcall.gov/register...that is the National Do Not Call Registry. Silence is golden, isn't it? Hope this helps.

Silence is Golden, but I do wish our Democratic Candidate, Sestak would not call in the evening - I know it is impossible for the recording to get to all people during the day but, leave a message. This type of call will not be covered by the Do-Not-Call law - sorry about that.

Political Campaigning Calls should be covered by the Do-Not-Call listing. We all get mail or E Mail - let them use this type of communication. I use my Delete button all the time for incoming mail that is of no interest to me or my family.

Candidates and their Timing and source for trying to get out their voters. I believe they are trying to keep their expenses down. As long as any candidate does not use his regular clerks to make calls asking for their support, it's OK with me. Our Postal System could use a few dollars from these candidates - that way we will not need to create any new jobs or add any more people to the rolls.

Another Democrat has resigned his position to run for a higher position. Sestak, he is a Congressman is now out and is a candidate for a Senate Seat. I'm not too concerned, because there are other candidates running on the ticket for this same position. BUT, have you checked his track record while serving in Congress? I do not believe he is the one to fill Specter's shoes, but maybe some position connected with the military would be a better fit.

One Great Step for Norristown on Saturday. Your involvement Stan and the TH, plus many others did pay off. Sorry we do not have a Theater that can be used, just for old times sake. But, we do on Marshall Street and with the revitalization of that area and Poley Park the sky is the limit.

Anonymous said...

I was just wondering if perhaps a new field would be the best thing to happen to Norristown School District. The students that attend the school, parking and maintenance. Have all three of these been addressed? The cost of a new field and the sale of the present field - what would be the difference in cost when this is considered? The area of Roosevelt Field was great when the old High School was in use - but now?
Has the school and the local civic clubs ever thought of having fund drives where all students would participate - like the old fashion "Field Day"??? Norristown needs to put their thinking hats on and not the too much cost attitude all the time.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous you are correct regarding the new field. We have corporations that donate for a worthy cause and of course there are others that if approached would gladly give a few thousand. Is there a committee working on this cause? If so, they need to get the word out - by that I mean in Print.

Arizona and any state along the lower portion of the USA is having problems with non-citizens. We have children traveling abroad and also studying there. They need to have their papers with them all the time and because of the color of their skin or their conduct are subject to "show me your papers." They also question their present living address, etc. This is normal, so why should any person feel offended unless they have something to hide. Once people get use to showing their papers (ids) it should be just a normal day in the sun and Arizona and all states would be much better off.

Anonymous said...

Since this is an open end type of Blog - I would like to make a comment or maybe two regarding Arizona and non-citizens and also the environment.
I agree the state has taken their state's rights first and those that are not rightfully living or trying to be guests should be rounded up by just one simple stop and show your papers should be no biggy. We travel quite a lot and that is always one thing you can count on. The Government in Washington needs to get their act together and their priorities.
Drilling for oil, is dangerous we know. The cost of wild life is now becoming very costly and also in dollars and cents. The amount of dollars spent because of the present situation will be passed down to us. So, the solution is? I don't know, we have cut costs on heat and driving. I believe that is why we have the think tanks in Washington and Mr. Obama's way of thinking - if it doesn't work we will try something else. Well, something else is needed on both of the above subjects.

While doing my favorite chore this A.M. I had Public Radio station on and Sestak was being interviewed. The commentator, Marty, would try to get a question in, but Sestak always came in with an answer, that was not the answer to the question. He continued for at least a half hour doing this until one caller called him on it. Answer the questions! No, he seemed to listen, but in a few secs. he was back to Specter,Bush and my child and country served. I believe his personality could be described as Narcission (dwelling on self too much).

Hear Ye, Hear Ye - Politicians are at work all right. Specter vs Sestak is interesting because Sestak is call the kettle Black when his kettle is also Black. He, Sestak, was an Independent and when he felt he could make a name for himself he joined our Democratic Party. Most of his time while he should have been attending to business he was on the campaign trail with our Gov. of PA and missed how many voting opportunities?? I really would like to know, before the Primary Election, if he now feels it would be worth his time to show up to votes or not?? It is important to me and my family. Mr. Specter does and always has been there to vote and felt it was his responsibility. As you can see I'm a little doubtful if Sestak has the right stuff for the Senate. It is a lot different than the Navy - our Family has Retirees too and we are proud of them, but I do not go around saluting them - give me a break bring your campaign up-to-date 2010 Style.

Hey Anonymous of May 8, 2010 10:59 AM,

A short comment on non-citizens. In todays TH we have three non-citizens accused of murder. The woman was sent back to Mexico (I believe it was her country) but returned and had a job here in Norristown as a Bar Maid. Why was she hired? Why weren't the Authorities notified that she was here seeking work? Interesting! If one law is not followed you can see how the whole system breaks down. Baby Steps, YES!

Joe the Nerd on 5/8 A true Democrat would check the facts about Smearing Sestak's Name??? Sen. Kerry defends Specter's claim about Sestak's record and that he was not smearing Sestak's Navy Record.
Truth: Sestak has declined the release of his Navy Records that shows his dismissal from the post of deputy chief of Navy Operations for treating his subordinates harshly, which began in 2005 - this has been confirmed by the Navy Times story through Pentagon sources.
So, "Swiftboating Charge" does not apply - guilty Mr. Sestak, you are right "Enough is enough" 5/10/2010 The Phila. Inquirer, C A9. Clear it up now and let's get on with it.

if you want a nicey-nice guy in that spot - more power to you.

i don't blame sestak for not playing specter's game. and that is what it is specter's little gotcha game.

Anonymous said...

I don't know you Joe The Nerd, but it would make the campaign a little easier if "Truth" would be a part of the Whole Process. It will be too late after the Primary and fall election to say, well it did not seem too important at the time.

sorry, but sestak would be a poor choice indeed if he allowed specter's single bullets to harrass him.

Final Comment Joe the Nerd on the Senate Race.
I do not care who you are or your position in life, but I do wish more attention would be placed on "truth" when statements are made. I know that is just too much to ask for, but by not answering a statement is usually "A guilty Plea"..

So, it will be interesting the next two years to watch and hold our breath as the "final decision maker" takes advantage of the newbees.

Today is another story - do you feel more safe?

The school term is almost over. It would be interesting for a report (required by the state)from the Bus Drivers on the driving conditions that makes life miserable some days. Most of the streets were built in the 1950-1970 era and that means two lanes with a little siding. Our kids do not use their back lawns, but use driveways to play and if for any reason the ball or the skating boards move too fast they are in the street and drivers have heart attacks for the near miss. This is happening now, with business cars, passenger cars and trucks parked on the street, it makes it that more dangerous. So, do you believe police and school bus drivers should make out reports? I do! If our towns and townships have blinders on maybe this would help right this situation before we have more parents shedding tears over their son that was lost over 20 years ago and to this day can not let it go.

Some very interesting stuff is coming up - To Taser or not to Taser an unruly person at an activity where the public was not part of the activity? How about the use of Radar to help control the speeders? Ohio has the locals using Radar - it kind of calms drivers down when they know there will be $$$ in fines when caught. Germantown Pike is 35MPH the whole stretch - right? You were not aware of it? Well, I do not remember it being changed from my last venture back last week - soo. Money could be made, traffic could be controlled and just maybe it would teach all of us we live in a country of laws that were in place to help all citizens.

Last question regarding Mr. Sestak. On one piece of literature he was in front of Mr. Clinton's desk and it looks like he is having a problem explaining something to Clinton. At that point in his career he was assigned to the White House as Director for Defense Policy. Why hasn't Mr. Clinton supported him? I know it is better not to through your support behind any person before the Primary Election - but I can not see anything that would make me believe he did anything outstanding. We also were not too impressed with the statement that he saved Pennsylvania jobs in the face of the worst economic downturn in 80 years? Well the 1950s were no picnic either - he should remember that. Verification -we need before Tuesday. Right now it looks like Specter wins hands down.

Upper Providence/Lower Providence
What happens in one township that has an exit on to Egypt Road is a disaster.
Today, around 2:30pm (approx.) there was a two car accident near the Golf Course - at Robin Lane. Traffic at anytime is unbelievable. Kids, young people trying to make a few bucks after school head to a shopping center to work - traffic at that time is one of the first things these kids have to contend with. What is really happening is that older drivers and more seasoned drivers are not alert to the fact that these kids are on a set time-table that means from school - to work. The young person was really hurt and the whole area was tied up. The reason for this whole problem is the poor planning by UP and LP - so when the County and Townships are asked for input regarding a plan for land development that is the time this should be hashed over. The private/County slipping in a Back Entrance to a shopping center is not the answer. Another Oops, I forgot to get a permit, etc. will not cut it.

Cars sitting on the street for more than one day without a sticker of inspection should have a fine given to the owner. Company Truck should not be parked on the street, except when they are doing a job at a business or a home. It is nice to have the convenience of a vehicle that is ready to go without having to back out of a driveway or disrupt the other members of the family - but fair is fair the streets are there for vehicles to drive on - driveways are for your personal use and storage in many cases of the extra car. Children playing in driveways are great, as long as they are trained not to run out on the street between their parents cars/trucks without checking for oncoming traffic. I'm really upset watching careless parents making decisions that are all wrong and of course not caring for other people.

It's the Law? The hearing held before congress regarding the Ariz.Immigration Law and if the law should be challenged. The two Federal Officials - Napolitano and Holder were giving their opinions but from reports they had not read the Ariz. Law, which is 10 pages. Ignorance is Bliss but change and challenge without reading up on the subject is not what most Legal Citizens have in mind.

Anonymous said...

The Election is over and it turned out to be exactly what our family had predicted.
The fall election is pitting one that has shown he is concerned about the legal citizens and the other that says he has the citizens' of this state best interest in mind - but after almost two terms in Washington did not find time to be in attendance for voting - because?
I believe in the saying Not Excused. On the campaign trail in order to make a name for himself is exactly why he was not there and how he spent very little money on his campaign, but that shows he has an attention deficit when it comes to a job at hand. Talking AT people, like he were in command, needs to be addressed.
Either Senator needs to be able to work WITH the other Senators and have knowledge on the subject presented before attempting to make a decision. Do you believe the two running for the fall Senate Seat will do that? Check their records!

The one on West Main Street "Continental" I believe it was called and Leo and Mimmie ran this hang-out food establishment. Good Food - Corned Beef Sandwiches that were GREAT. We moved to Audubon in the early 1950s and sometimes the cost of the bus fare (7 cents) was hard to manage plus eating out at Leo's, so we would go to Texas Hot Dog establishment. After all we made $25.00 a week - great pay. That was the way it was - no frills - every penny counted.

Sestak needs to tell the whole story. If he were offered any job in the Administration, prior to the Primary, to have him withdraw his name from the Ballot - this is Big Time STUFF. Then on top of this statement he has not answered any questions asked about his Navy Career which for some reason is Hush -Hush. His way of handling people in authority seems to be the way he acted/commanded his ships. Because I say it is so - attitude, does not make it so.
Clean it up now Sestak and take your bumps, even if it means dropping out of the race and taking Federal Personnel with you for Bribing or attempting to.
There is a question now and that is How Many Others Are There Out There that have decided or withdrawn because of offers from this Administration? You started it Sestak and it will not be over until you learn to answer ALL QUESTIONS. Because Obama says there is nothing to it, makes the whole Question and Answer Game more important - he is not the Decider when it comes to this BIG PROBLEM.

Anonymous said...

Try as he may, the Decider (Mr. Obama) is trying to put this Sestak Offer on the back page of the news. If there isn't anything to hide, let us decide. This offer, most of us in this part of Sestak's Voting District in Montgomery County, believe he needs to come forward NOW.

After 10 Months the Pres. has a TV Conference with the Press! Amazing, I thought the last 4 months that daily chat on everything and anything counted! Well, most of today's meeting of the press was really because of the Oil Leak down in the Gulf (A BP and Obama Administration Catastrophe). Obama said he and the administration was on top of the situation from day (1)! It would be great to hear what the discussions were that would make me a believer. He did say maybe the various departments were not as nimble as they should have been but the most men were experts in the fields discussed and made the decisions as to which road to travel in correcting the situation which sometimes caused delays. I have to go back and listen again to this great piece of shuffling and "Let Me Make Myself Clear" statements. Great listening to be sure. He has scheduled his second visit to the Gulf Coast - now that is a great big Yahoo! I'm not plugging MSNBC, but Mitchell is one smart lady when keeping the whole show moving. She had Chris Matthews on to make a few comments after the briefing and this is one time I did believe he had a little common sense and not just a loud mouth. When it came to questions regarding Sestak's Offer - that will be made by some other personnel - in the works, right? How about the resignation of the Head of the MMS? Ok, he was not aware of it - really?? Firing maybe, but if he, Obama, was not aware of the magnitude of this situation, then she, the head of MMS, was not either - did you say on top of it from Day One? So, keep listening and compare Katrina - BP/Oil Drilling Mishap. Many heads should roll!

Oh Mr. Emanuel asked Clinton to ask Sestak if he would be interested in a non paying position as an adviser? Boy, how this big Woops has been played by Mr. Sestak from February - Unbelievable! In fact, I do not believe it. But,just say it is true. If Sestak believed he would receive recognition and maybe some pay along the way, he would have taken it. But, propaganda is what he seems to be good at and not good judgment. He should have learned from the "Teacher" (Clinton)when it comes to a play on words - like the meaning of "is" when questioned. Don't try to be "cute" it is unfitting of you Sestak and any person running for office. "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time" (a quote of some person but not sure who said it) and we include, not exclude Democrats, Independents and all Republicans that have not followed this type of campaigning.

Humped Dee Bumped Dee (The Decider) fell off the wall - it ran something like that. You get the idea. He fell off the wall and no we can not put him back together again. Emanuel may be leaving a little ahead of his time line and understanding Clinton is a no brains needed. But, why not let a candidate work his way in politics. Listened to a talk show on CNN and the question on why or when a Birth Certificate should be requested if for some reason you were questioned. I have a Birth Certificate in my Safe Deposit Box, Marriage Certification, Home Ownership, Children's Birth Certificates and savings certificates. So, I can see no person, that is clearly a United States Citizen would be caring a Birth Certificate. But, there is a need for a Drivers Card, Insurance Card and any personal certification of your home address is a must.
We had work done to the outside of our home and the company has been around since the 1940s, but only one person appeared to speak American English. I trust this company to have the work completed and on time - but should they also have given me the list of employees working and certification records that they are citizens or with a true green card? Norristown is a haven for illegals, most of them work or use the soup kitchens to make sure their body is well fed, but why did they come here and what type of outside of work are they involved in - good or bad. We understand that since it really would over whelm the Feds governing procedures that the court said that we need to let it slide for now - really!!!
How much will it cost to improvise a system that would be within the legal rules - 14th Amendment? Show me how our President and his men would prove they and their relatives were admitted to the USA or how they can prove they are truly citizens. I can! Legally!

Our Trails are very busy - not just Montgomery County residents, but from mostly Chester and Berks County.
Our County is in financial trouble and so is the state. It is necessary for the County to FEED the POOR or those that have lost their jobs now and though out the upcoming months. A suggestion was made and we should now take advantage of the busy free parking area of our section of the Trail by asking for 2 cans of vegetables for each car on a specific weekend. We have many volunteers that will help, plus the Scouts both Boy and Girl. If it pans out - try it again in the fall. It is always better to plan ahead than keep saying "Woe is Me there isn't anything in the Larder".. This should be advertised at each parking area in advance - it would be a win - win situation, as Mr. Gotshall would say.

Mid Afternoon and yes in deed our leader is upset and expresses his anger at the Republicans only, but not on the whole bill that was presented, with how the funds would be found and allocated, which would extend the unemployment benefits for the young couple and of course other couples that are trying to find work, in their field. The answer is you may have to move, be trained for a job that is not in your field and take a great salary cut. I have noticed over the summer vacation my grand children were unable to find any type of job that would help pay for their books, except day work here and there within their neighborhood. I know the automobile industry was hit very hard with our present administration head deciding which agency will be closed and that in turn closed other small businesses in the local area making a larger mess then we had during the Bush Administration - at least we had PT Jobs available.
Our President needs to stop stomping around and use his head and suggest that maybe only one request at a time be presented to Congress and how he sees it being paid for - there is NO GOLD to cover more PAPER - NOTES...we need CERTIFICATES FROM HERE ON.

There was a listing that would give an individual money from other states and it is "IRS8b Payouts" that must be listed as income on your Federal Tax Form, but there are no Federal Taxes - now state taxes? don't know about that but makes for a good read! I understand time is of utmost concern - but just the reading is interesting.
This could help those that are on the rolls and can not find a job, but still have electric and telephones which make "E" possible for all to enjoy.

The news on the Port Authority Employees is getting interesting, since it does include locals - but remember to read slowly and check before making any judgment - BO and all his men/women need to read everything line by line to check who, when and where it occurred or from which fund it will come out of when it comes to an OK on everything that will cost more than $1.00.

Regarding not here on the homefront but South Korea. I do wish we would spend less time trying to talk with N.Korea. We get the same old story and they will do what ever they wish. N.Korean Spokesman, Ri Tong II told the news in Hanoi "Such a move presents a grave threat to peace and security not only to the Korean peninsula but to the region." He was referring to the Military Drill "Invincible Spirit" which S. Korea and the USA are stageing off the Korean Coast. This came about because of the sinking of the S.Korean War ship "Cheonan" killing 46 sailors.
Our own Hillary Clinton has threatened more sanctions against the N.Koreans in the coming weeks.
The more I read about S. Korea and our present Administration reaction to N. Korea makes me wonder - are we trying to start another conflict (not war) there?

It must be nice to live the life that Kerry, a Mass. Senator does. I know he has a few $$ of his own, but when Teresa's husband, Sen. Heinz, was killed in an air accident locally - guess who she married and the $$ combination is unbelieveable. Well, we all have toys, but to have a new 76 Foot Yacht ($7 Million cost)and still have time to go sailing plus the many hours that should be spent on his Senator duties must be wearing. I believe I read the sales tax would be $437,000. and the annual excise tax in Mass would be around $70,000. - man that is more than the total yearly salary my husband and I made during our entire working life. Goes to show, why they see nothing wrong with the Spending in Washington.

Inhumane! That word was used by the Gov. of the state adjoining Ariz. when he referred to illegals and their treatment here in the USA. Another little phrase was "they do not want the newly born children be granted citizenship".. I think the Judge and all Federal Agencies need to take a long hard look at the situation .. I believe the Inhumane side of the situation is caused on the other side of the border and that is why so many run for their life into the USA. This problem has now grown to make all of us believe we are part of the Mexican United States - leave America out of it. Maybe if we all stop paying taxes, which we would never do, but elect some person that would take this whole situation seriously our present situation in the Treasury would improve and Drug/disobedience would become more manageable.

The Trails and all people that use it on a weekly, at least, basis. I took the new entrance from Pawlings Road into the Expo Center this past weekend and noticed the number of bikers/walkers with their bright shiney cars parked at the Pawlings and then the Egypt Road Parking lot allocated for them - free. I believe Montgomery County should set aside at least two weekends from here thru September for "Feed the Needy and stock the Soup Kitchens Weekend." It has been suggested and we truly need to follow up on this suggestion. I'm not sure which County Department to consult and who would care one way or another, but we have one big problem with the unemployeed and those that are now really in need. For those that use the trail - would it be too much to ask of you to purchase 2 or 3 cans of Vegetables and drop them off before you take off on your day trip with your friends that are well nourished and have a roof over their head and also a car? Think about it! Your turn to make a difference.

I know our church here in Audubon collects school supplies and clothing for a Norristown Area School where the need is great. Maybe this is just one more thing that could be accomplished if they (we)and all churches in LP would ban together. I'll make the suggestion this week or Sunday. Why don't you do the same, I'm speaking to those in other churches and live in LP.

Time to pay your Taxes! In 2009 and 2010 we have had to draw down our savings to pay our taxes. Now, our lifestyle has not changed and this year we will not go to our yearly get-togther with friends that live a couple hours away. In 2009 we drew $3,000. and this year it is approx.$4,000. Now, at this rate our savings will be gone and also our home... Good Show Dems. I'll work very hard to see you are out of here in Nov.

What taxes are you talking about at this time of year?

School?
Township?
County?

I live in LP, of those 3 categories there are 17 elected officials. (9 Methacton School Board + 5 LP Supervisors + 3 County Commissioners)

Only 1 of those 17, County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, is a Democrat.

The rest are GOP.

Sounds like you have Bush Jr. Disease. Somebody hits you (like a bunch of Saudis via Afganistan on 9/11) and you go after someone else (the Iraqiis).

You need to train your target better.

Feel free to vote against your own interests.

Thank You Joe! - Our County/State depends on the Feds for quite a bit of funding. I'm not too sure but that is a well known fact in our circle of friends. It does trickle down doesn't it. I for one will pay my School Taxes although I feel they are way too high and on time. If you check on the forclosures, because of unpaid taxes, most will come up "School Taxes"... Interesting! Don't forget Nov. Races - check all the facts Joe it should be interesting.

A day to remember...August 6, 1945!! A B29, named Enola Gay dropped THE BOMB on Hiroshima. In June we celebrated VE Day - Victory in Europe and now this Monday, I know of only one state that celebrates VJ Day and that is the smallest state of our United States, Rhode Island. We thought, after this bomb was dropped, all our men would be coming home and we could at last get back to some normal times, although because of the war there were many jobs created in the Airplane Industry and Tire Industry. Sorry, that was not to be - Korea and Nomn. followed and life has never been the same here at home. The type of industry once again changed and women returned to their homes but not for long. The new NOW Generation was born and are well educated - now that is a plus or minus, depending on your gender. But the point is WAR and END OF A WAR will bring about another change - now how do you all see it? I'm celebrating Monday, August 9th, which is VJ Day and my Stars and Stripes will be proudly displayed.

Joe I believe what was being said was that due to the cost of just living the savings that normal people put away for taxes is gone. The amount of draw down sounds normal and if our Federal Government keeps the pace up we could all be drawing down our savings just to live. Locally, it really isn't too bad the supply and demand are almost even.

Our Children are paying big bucks to attend various Universities. Tell me why Harvard & Yale always seem to be the most chosen when it comes to Law, Government & Finance. What is Brown, Univ. of PA and Columbia lacking? I have not found any answers that would convince students that a good education does not mean an Ivy League School. I have noticed the present Administration prefers Harvard & Yale and most of the Goldman Sachs personnel that associate with this administration have connections with these Universities. So, what do they have that the other three do not?

What's in a name??? Do you remember the young policeman that had a problem with a certain Professor (Harvard I believe)?? Now, that problem called in the highest law enforcement person in this land - The President! Does that answer your question?

I have been watching the Military Channel the last few months #124. Maybe our readers here in the Tri State Area, that are tired of watching all the CNNs, they could learn a lot about what is going on with our Military all over the world watching this channel. My husband is a retiree after 30 years in both active and reserve statis - he too enjoys watching and feeling proud of our young Volunteer Armed Services. I do believe there will be two more from our family that are now completing their studies at the University and may be heading in that direction.

We need to cover our Senior Citizens needs. Most Seniors had not planned on living into the 90-100 range. So, with that said there is a need. More people should be paying into the system and SS should be for all to share when we are making a fairly good wage. Any person/family making more than $400,000.00 and of course receives a bonus, should be taxed .. Not fair you say?? Why? Certainly you would feel better about yourself when you retire. After all you did pay a fair amount into the system.

Anonymous said...

School Taxes - $3,000. give or take.
Health Care - $2,500. in a good year.
Long Term Care - $4,500. any year.
A retired person needs to stash away that amount.
If your husband is no longer here to help provide for these expenses - look on the Real Estate Tax List published by Xspand.
How many in your area are on that list?
Life is not great for those over 65 - especially those that never received benefits -- they just worked and worked -- now their home is on the Xspand list.

We are cutting down on many luxury items and on-line is one. Back to reading the News and Comments. The cost of keeping all electronics is way to high - so don't tell we seniors to check out FaceBook or Twitt anything, because you are gone as of September in this household.

What do these years bring to mind? 1945, 1954 and now 2010 & 2011? Employment right? If there is no war needs then where are these Troops going to get a job? Most have only high school type of education and of course these Troops will need more than $7.00 per hour jobs. Housing, as it was back in the early '50s is there, but at what cost - they will not be able to afford any type of home or apartment. These volunteers, as our President emphasized the word "Volunteer" back last year are in need and much thought had better go into it NOW.

Anonymous said...

Combat Troops are heading home with their equipment. How many Advisory Staff will be needed to fill the gap of these troops? We have how many leftovers from the last three wars (1 war but 2 conflicts that lasted years) remaining to help these people that we were trying to help. As you know, not all were successful, but count the bodies, that will make you feel not too great about any war, especially the volunteer one we now are increasing.

There are two GREAT PRESIDENTS that had their heads on straight when it came to ending the WARS. They Were Truman and Johnson. They did not have that superior look or mannerism that is present in todays world on the faces of our elected officials. They were truly GREAT PRESIDENTS THAT ENDED THE WARS/CONFLICTS.
No, I'm not a Dem. I am a proud Republican, but up to this past year, I have always given the various administrations their good or bad report cards. This Administration is not doing too well. If it were not for the left-overs of the Bush Administration, who do we have that we can call Excellent thinkers and leaders?

I know our Mr. President does not like anyone or anything connected to the Republican Party. But the media sure has missed this great event at the Lincoln Memorial scheduled for this Saturday. It is the Restoring Honor Rally. All men/women connected to Government and the military should be in attendance. It is a celebration of our founding principles. But, the kicker is that the event is put on by no other than Glenn Beck. I do hope we see a write-up before, during and after this great event. This event is not just for one person, race or their religion - it is for ALL AMERICANS. Come on America - Let's Celebrate!! See you in Washington??

In todays TH there was an article about the number of births at Montgomery and how many were here illegaly, but now we have gained one more citizen, not by choice but by the Federal Law. Our famous Mr. Matthews just noticed the hardship illegals are placing on towns and hospitals?? Where and the heck has he been?? Oh, over having dinner in Blue Bell?? No, the "Club"?? Well, then where?? That would not fall under County Business - Really!! Check the churches that are providing food and shelter for thes illegals that are now the untouchables according to some State/Federal Government. Just think of them as $$$ in any budget - Housing, medical, education, clothing and taxes. Now, do you believe Arizona is correct in their treatment of illegals and asking for legal documents if stopped?? I certainly do think they are on the right track and our Government has blinders on more now than years past.

Change of subject -- This past Sunday our Pastor, looking out over the congregation, which has no color preference and stated -- You know the last time I checked, those that believe in "God" do not care which "Religion" a person is, or how they maintain their relationship with "God".. Now, since I have attended many churches growing up, you know he is correct. The reason I feel at home in our church is because of the varied nationalities there is in our congregation. So, maybe at Ground "0" there should be a "Chapel" built for all to feel free any time during the day or night to worship or seek help in their own way. Just a thought!

This is 9/11/10, but the program on CNN #103 was taking place on 9/11/01. I hope you got to watch it, Tom and Katie did a great job. But, tell me how do you now feel about the Mosque being built at Ground Zero? I have lived it all over again and to build or not to build should never be even questioned. This is our country and neither Germany, Japan or any other country that placed us in harms way should never have the opportunity to build near any ground Zero or whatever we would like to call it.

That comfortable feeling during and after attending a service is what religion is all about. I believe we have to give time after any problem to sort it all out - but to forgive does not mean don't remember - and that should be on both sides after the problem/event.

There was a cartoon in todays paper by one of our local Democrats showing a Tea Party - he did forget to add the Dems. stating "I'm late, I'm late for a very important date" showing the Tea Party way ahead and with a little tea, a clear mind and not running around like a Mad Hater. You know flitting from one place to another to make a speech in hopes that would convince voters that you are doing the right thing is getting old. I would prefer our present leader solve the war situation and create manufacturing jobs for those here at home and those volunteers as he calls them on their return - hopefully within a years time - that would do it. To cut back on the military upgrades and manufacturing of planes and ships is not a good thing for any manufacturing company. You know if you cut down one large job, how many companies will need to lay off? Job creation? Right now - No Way!

Anonymous said...

Those Volunteers should be able to find positions on their return from active duty. Exactly what does our President and his head threads think would be a fitting position for those that have made sure we here on the home front are safe? Schooling with a salary would help, but there is no way they and their families will be able to live on that even after the schooling is complete. We need a great Reserve System that has the most up-to-date equipment there is and all men/women are trained. Yep, that would be a starter. Don't sell all the equipment just yet Mr. Gates. We are too far in debt to replace all of the equipment that has served us so well. A well designed piece of equipment will never go out of style.

May we suggest Air Force 1 stay on the ground. The cost alone for each of these trips, which our President takes, is very costly. I think the TH should post a page of happenings in Montgomery County, but only by the present Elected Officials. So, an up-to-date happenings, good or bad sure would help. An outside reporter from each Party should probably be the one to give us the slant on what happened and why.

Speaking of TRAFFIC.. Do you travel into Phoenixville from VF AREA by way of Nutt Road? I do every week and the light system at 29 and Nutt is NUTS. Why isn't there a LEFT TURN SIGNAL on to 29? I go to the hospital, so most of the time I will go back one block before this intersection and take 29, which is safer, but it should not be this way.

We travel that route every week. What we can not understand is why Phoenixville permits this lack of concern for the safety of employees in that area.

Checking the News on TV and found that really "Timing" is everything. On the 5 O'clock news one lady got caught with the look of go get them on her face when she learned of a movie that was being released now regarding an FBI woman person...a leak was the basis for the movie during the Bush Administration... Last evening on the same channel, different reporter was reporting on Sorensen's life as a speech writer and on foreign policy for Kennedy, especially when it came to the Cuban Missile Crisis and how Kennedy had to say and present the right wording so not to under mind the negotiations in the correspondence to Khrushchev (sp?). But, one little area seemed to make what was a great report was credit for the award winning Pulitzer Prize book written by Kennedy "Profile in Courage". Who should have received most of the credit for this book? So, timing on both sides - Rep. and Dem. makes me wonder why I even watch the TV News.

Anonymous said...

Now the Election is over - The President has once again taken the blame for the failures of some House Members and Senate to regain their seat. He said they really worked hard and gave them credit for all the "good" bills that were passed. Exactly why does he think these people lost? Could it be the process he and his men/women used to make sure of passage. He does not understand the fact that a "Bill" that is supposed to be covering One problem that is need, does not have to be everything under the sun on his "Want List". That is only one fact about "Health Care & Taxation" that has caused all of us to fume. Where he believed his moves were for the best - a lot of businesses went under because of the "Big" helping hand. Our present administration has been acting like "Rich Daddy" and giving money, the government does not have, to every cause here in the USA and the entire world. Zipper the Mouths in Washington when it comes to any more new spending.

Mergers - Something our State/Federal Government should think on. When a merger is complete and executives are left out of the employed. The company/bank that is now in control- are they giving any thought as to how the employee that is now unemployed will be able to make a living? Are they keeping in contact with these employees when an opening is available? Our friend has worked for over 20 years at this institution and now - no job. Really there seems to be something missing with the follow-up or an agreement that would help this family feel they are of some use in the industry. What I am saying - mergers are not that great for most employees and our Federal Government really needs to take a long hard look at this type of "only for profit" take-over and the employees end up on the rolls.

Anonymous said...

You must be kidding to think any company that takes over another, gives a second thought as to how those that will be unemployed will survive. As long as their stock goes up - who will worry? You have that take on this situation correct.

Anonymous said...

I read in the News today that Phooenixville Hospital has out-sourced their Clerical and dismissed the Clerical help - Now this is just like the Banks - there is no need for in-house personnel to help you if there is a problem . There are companies that do only certain things and can give you an up-to-date printout within an hour. There will be no medical, retirement or any type of compensation for a company to worry about or Federal Agencies checking your tax records.

Our County Parks are going the way of all things that are free. The Nature Center up in Green Lane has been hit because of the "Budget". Why isn't the Oaks County Park being considered? The last 10 years it has burned into a parking lot and only if you know some person will your organization be able to meet there without a hefty price for the non-profit organizations. Remember the good old days when you were able to swim and picnic there?

Anonymous said...

County Staff at the various parks are really not needed. The maintenance crew with the staff that watch for problems should be it. Inside the County Office on Air and Swede there should be a connect for any person needing reservations and this reservation would be presented when entering the parks - the maintenance crew should have everything ready to go by the time of the arrival of the first person in the party. As for having our various maintenance crews sharing the mowing etc. this too should be scheduled by the County Office in town and all regular maintenance should be taken care of by the County Heads In Norristown with bids out each year or two to make sure all machines are running smoothly. We now are away past the various people running down town for anything that is needed to have an OK or the Payroll signed in. We need to get with it and save money to keep our parks open and we all can enjoy our leisure while we are there.

Anonymous said...

I just found out that if a student wants a job at the Parks he needs to go to the Park to submit his application - Really! What happened to Norristown and their control over hiring? Control? It should never be who you know so that any person can secure a position if he/she qualifies and has wheels? How about a notice in the TH when seasonal positions are available, like the Commissioners do with contracts being awarded?

Do you remember back in Sept. 2009 when there was great discussion as to whether or not all schools should take time for all classes to hear our President's Speech? If we would even consider this subject today with our present President, there would be no need for classes, just one big "Now Hear This" every day and maybe roll call. Every day there is a "State of our Country, as of this moment" presented by our President or one of his men. I'm not too sure these updates are necessary, because I love to read and the local newspapers supply all information I really need, plus the polls that call every Noon and around 5PM to secure our opinion.

Why did our President, back in 1/09, pass by Executive Order HB 1388 for $20,000,000.00 so the Hamas Refugees would be able to come to the USA. What other Bills have been passed by Executive Order so far under this administration? I'm looking at the good and not so good use of Executive Orders.

Don't know the answer about Executive Order, but maybe some person can tell me about the appointment of 15 people that will be the Decision Makers in 2014 via electronic filing that will take away the Doctor's ability to decide on the treatment of a person under the New Obama Care. We are paying for this electronic filing and the 15 people he has appointed. There was a notice by the government that had to be listed again because the address of the property that was be sold had Eagleville instead of the actual location of the property. Now can we have property listed with the Township and village where they are located used. Methacton is not in Eagleville or Norristown. Yes believe it or not it is in Worcester Township and when there was a post office it was considered Fairview Village. Most residents remain firm in their address choice and make all addresses with the third line listing Fairview Village and the Post Office as Norristown.

Anonymous said...

Yes Anonymous who did give the postal system the legal right to change our address, meaning the town or village we live in and when we purchased the property? Change the Zip, that is OK, but keep their hands off the location. I would love to see the map they would provide if asked for the exact location of Fairview Village.

Anonymous said...

The High School has a Norristown Zip and the School says that it has no recourse but to use it.

Anonymous said...

We received our new Telephone book today and there is a listing for a grocery store on Audubon Road, Eagleville, PA. Interesting! I guess it is close to Methacton.

Anonymous said...

Our Post Office has a system going that not one person understands. There needs to be an extra line in the Telephone that lists the location and the other the mailing address. It use to be that the zip represented the sorting systems address, that wasn't too bad. Only if a homeowner uses a PO Box as their address could they use the zip of that location. Go back PLEASE!

Anonymous said...

When it comes to an address when advertising an event, always use the location, not the Postal Listing. If you expect a reply, state the Postal Listing and also the Location. This is a no brainer. I have for years used a 4 line address because the need to know that we have not moved for old friends is very important.

I got an E today from an old HS friend and it was about Harry Truman and his wife's life style after they left the "White House"... Talk about a great President and his and his families way of living made me wonder how all the Presidents from that era and up-to the present time actually live. I would be a great history article that the TH could sink their teeth in and we old folks would appreciate.

Anonymous said...

Give them Hell Harry was one saying about Harry Truman and response to everything and anything. The Administration under his direction was direct and he also lived the life we common people lived. What a shame more leaders do not do the same when they are serving our government. Now, the reason for the current and the last two administrations are the reasons for the financial fix we are in. Yes, 9/11 started it and Fannie and Freddie plus Wall Street did their thing too. You will note it was not Dems. or Reps. singled out. It was all types of educated and uneducated citizens that contributed to the condition, so don't play the "blame game"..
So, my mind started to get off track - Harry Truman and his family really was and is remembered for how they lived while in the White House and the bombing that ended one of the two wars that were going on at that time.

Anonymous said...

If you would like to have your home address and zip listed exactly for the town you live in, the Post Office agrees that it will cooperate but you will need a PO Box (you pay extra)for this all to come about. Now, that is exactly how it was stated when we started to have home delivery. We here in LP and Worcester need larger Post Offices. So, a four line address will be needed.

When my husband and I were first married we had a set plan on how we would finance a home. We lived with my parents for two years and saved all of my pay. Next step we purchased a piece of ground and we cleared it and had a home, although small, built on it. Furniture was next to new or hand-me-downs. Now, we needed to pay for the home mortgage and that was exactly the amount my husband took home each week. Yep, we made it and to this day we still save my pay and when we need something, we do not feel bad about dipping into the account. Yes, we have been retired and my pay check is my retirement check. So, my grand children have been told to save at least 25% of their salary and just because you receive a raise, it is not necessary to spend it on some new gadget that you do not need or that will just sit in a closet. Common Sense!!!

Anonymous said...

Who saves 25% of their pay ?? It sounds good but most of us live an entirely different life style than you and your husband and now probably your grandchildren. We update our wardrobe yearly and eat out each week or more. Our children are up-to-date on all gadgets that seem to be needed in to-days world. If they do well in school and are looking forward to college, the HS has an experienced (not like the former guidance teacher and consultant we had) person to help them secure a loan and fill out all papers that are required after all tests are taken. Most students already by their Junior Year know where they are going and all paper work has been completed. So, if I drop dead tomorrow, we and my family lived a great life with no regrets!!!

I've lived in Audubon for 60+ years. Our address changed when home delivery was added - they, the postal system needed a less complicated system of locating our home, so a zip was added and the town in which the sort center was located. Now, what is their excuse for using a town that isn't near our home as our address? Maybe it would be better if the Township's Name were used and if the development that some people feel so close to, could be used as the third line. No, on Eagleville and certainly not when trying to direct people to a meeting - use the LOCATION!!!!

I do remember there was an option when it came to the address in this area and it was mostly about using the Post Office (Valley Forge, Audubon) If you were a company and you loved the idea of the Valley Forge Area the mail would be delivered to the Valley Forge Post Office and the company would pick up all mail. Home delivery would use Norristown (sort center) and their zip or use Audubon and Norristown Zip. If you prefer to use the Audubon Zip, you would need to get a mail box at the Post Office and pick up your mail. Location for any activity always listed it as The Location and the Mail Address was so designated. Problem solved, almost - Location - Location no one seems to be interested in giving some thought when it comes to directing mail or the physical location of a meeting.

Speaking of the Postal System and the Federal Government - - - Yesterday that would be Sept. 27th I received a piece of mail from the US House of Representatives, Washington, DC - concerning Official Business... "Know Your Rights" a Senior Event was being held on September 27th at l:00 PM, at the Knights of Columbus in Springfield, PA - stating Local and Federal Agencies would participate. Unfortunately reality in today's world did not receive this announcement in time to participate. My mail usually is received around 1:00 PM - so, who is responsible for this mailing that was not received on time? Could Congressman Patrick Meehan be the one? I paid for it and so did many others here in Montgomery County and Delaware County for a mailing that was just too late for any person to respond to. It looks like a party that every person was invited to but the invitations were not mailed - correct????

Was this mailing "First Class" - Junk Mail, which is usually how I would classify most literature from the Feds. and State. One letter listing various meetings in a letter form would make it happen in our family. Right now we have both the Rep. & Dems. going at it, but of course the Dems. are waiting for maybe another person to run against our present President, which would really make the whole election interesting.

Other than being a Democrat my hopefully (better half)thinks Meehan stinks. Why? Well - "Choice" was the answer. Yes, indeed now that is an answer I do not understand, since the Navy Man trying to double dip lost to Meehan and of course he also got caught up in "Choice"... Did you say this is a No Win Situation with my so called "better half"???

I was thinking about Mr. Obama's "State of the Union" - last year and exactly what questions on personel matters that he has chosen not to answer or are only slightly true, depending on who is giving the question and how the answer will be framed. Last April there was a big to-do about his "birth certificate" and the answers that did/did not jive. So, now the Blogs are hot wiring over Obama's Citizenship Case that is coming up before the Supreme Court, and of course connected to the problem of who will fill in, the position of President, as the law requires, as he will not be able to fulfill his duties if he is not qualified because of the Citizen situation and not being truthful. Most say Biden and then Hillary will fill in for VP. Now, does that sound like the old Clinton and Kennedy days or what? Well, anyway if he fudged his college transcripts from Occidental College, referred to Obama as Barry Soetoro, on the financial aid as a foreign student? The financial aid transcript shows that Obama (Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship??
Nope, you can not be a foreign student one day and an American Citizen the next when seeking aid. Interesting - Check it out! This little oops must be cleared up before the Primary, because we may need a replacement, other than Biden. Little facts that have been covered up for too long will make all citizens look like goofballs and to believe him and those helping him believe if he says it enough time no person will doubt him and that is "I will take full responsibility".. Really?
