No, I'm not talking about the New England Patriots. Doesn't it seem like they're in the Super Bowl every other year? I know they're not, but it sure seems like it some times.
Anyway, I'm talking about the Norristown Area High School boys basketball team and the Methacton High School girls basketball teams.
These two schools are on a roll to say the least.
The streaks started me thinking about all of the great athletes to come out of our area.
I can name a few, but I was hoping for a little help.
Let's get off politics for a couple of minutes and talk sports.
Who do you think is the greatest athlete to come out of Montgomery County?

All basketball players:

From a folklore standpoint in the Norristown Area, the _athlete_ no conversation is complete without discussion of:
Theron Ellis- NAHS Football/Basketball; West Virginia Football;Stint Cleavland Browns . Reportedly, could put a quarter on "top" of the backboard at NAHS gym; was able to "broad jump" the fence around track/field at Roosevelt and blocked a PSU punt from the line of scrimmage with a "vertical jump". Along with other feats of amazement on the field and in weight room.
Football- Daymon Carroll- NAHS Parade All American 96; UofFla. All American -Track
Basketball- Darren Queenan; Henry Williams;
Track/Field: Ernie Terrell Gatorade Player of Year (99-00; 00-01) (PA), PSU
Cross Country: Donna Fidler - NAHS Gatorade Player of Year (Pa) 94-95' PSU
Lacrosse: John Christmas; Lower Merion
Wrestling: Rick Springman NAHS; PA State Champion; Univ. of Penn.
Stan, There are so many of them still playing sports in the Times Herald's delivery area. Check out the senior leagues 55, 60, 65, 70, and even 8o and over, you will find some outstanding former local school stand outs. Local women softball leagues have loads of former high school stand-outs, even former coaches. Many of these outstanding athletes may not have made it to higher places, but they were, and still are outstanding.
I agree. Steve Bono. He was a 3 sport letterman and later NFL quarterback. Steve Bono...nothing else said.
Mike Piazza and Kobe Bryant
Binky Johnson...Hands down
Definately Binky Johnson

No BS there I was there when he grabbed the quarter, jumped the fence and have the tape of him blocking more than one field goal with WVU...Set multiple strength records at WVU.
