I read your column - Remembering a friend - John Durante. He was indeed a man that each of us can refer to as a friend - but of course for different reasons. When I refer to memories about friends, fellow workers or politics, not too many share the same memories - after all they our owers to hold for ever.

Stan, One would think one would ask this question after the person is buried. In case someone does not hold the same thoughts as you. I will include the young man in my daily prayers. Politics do make strange bedfellows.

Excellent coverage in the TH - Front Page is where it was and should have been. Yes, we will remember him and many stories will be told . He lived his life the way he felt was best for him, his family and community.

The Power of a Badge.....DEA officer stops at a ranch in Texas , and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher says, "Okay , but do not go in that field over there," as he points out the location. The DEA officer verbally explodes saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me." Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the rancher. "See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand? " The rancher nods politely, apologizes, and goes about his chores. A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the DEA officer running for his life chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull...... With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems likely that he'll get gored before he reaches safety. The officer is clearly terrified. The rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... " Your badge. Show him your BADGE ! " It is the policy of Tyler Independent School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, handicap, or age in its employment practices as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

i.e., the authorities in Montco need to stop wasting taxpayers' money with their bully pulpits, like your front page news of DA Ferman. The homeless man who died deserved the front page headline, not that newshound.

" And there it is, AGAIN! Bruce Castor taking a political opportunity to use John Durante's death as a mechanism of gaining votes from John's peers, friends and supporters. Honor John’s accomplishments and leave out the political statements and references. BC said, "It was an honor to run for office with John in 1999 alongside our other D.A.’s Office colleague Mike Marino." What in the he!! does Marino have to do with you personally attempting to honor John? You and John ran for separate row offices not on the same ticket! You should have stopped short of bringing politics into his passing and honored his memory not your political history. Read Mike Marino's comments and learn how to honor the man and what he did! Man, I am about filled up with Bruce Castor's ego. Where is grandma's Castor oil for relief? TBT "

If the person who goes after Bruce's ego about John would understand how many hours John and Bruce spent together you may just hold your breath and let be what it was. John was a great person who Bruce really respected for his many talents especially the forensic talent John had. Just once the Dems would be better to step outside their headquarters and realize they are just as ego filled as they say Bruce is, after all why else would Hoeffel be in the race. Tony Williams stepped into the race and within 24 hours he garnered more Dem State Committee votes then Big Joe. When political figurtes die, politicians say things. Just for once let it go and honor a guy who helped anyone regardless of their party.

The replacement of John Durante is? I mean his County Position - he will never be replaced in our hearts and memory. I know we have a fill-in, but will it come up for a vote by County Residents?

Thank You for remembering John Durante today in the TH. We all appreciate knowing other people have the great memories of him as we do.

A replacement for Durante our former Sheriff who passed last year is just that a full time position, not the man.

What is in a name? Durante seems to ring a bell. I wish him success. He will have very large shoes to fill. It is hard not to make a comparison.

The Primary is just around the corner. I have no problem when it comes to the right candidate for Sheriff.
