Republicans on the comeback trail

Montgomery County and half the nation, okay, at least a couple of states, have decided we've about seen enough of what the Democrats can do when they take charge. Republicans swept into the judicial seats, taking six of the seven seats on Common Pleas Court. Most of the local races were won by Democrats, though, except in Conshohocken and Lower Providence. Thankfully one Republican made it in West Norriton. A Republican took the governor's seat in New Jersey, and Republicans took over in Virginia as well.
What a night. How does your morning look?

What that, Stan, no mention of how the the Hate constituency let their voices be heard in Maine?

Maybe you left that out in order to balance not mentioning that all-important NY-23 race where a Democrat is taking over a seat that's been held by Republicans since the Civil War.

I'm pretty sure Michael Steele had some sort of speech written up for a win in that one where he would call for the resignation of Barack Obama.

I would agree that the Republican party is more about how to incite hate in people rather than solve any problems that go further than general accounting. There's more to this nation than what's in your pocketbook. The Republican party seems to not want to see that people are not treated equally. It's easier to ignore than to address them. I hope Maine and every other state keeps fighting for their rights that they, as Americans, are entitled to.

Hey Comhradh,

That's what the blinders do for Stan and the rest of them that want to force their ideas of morals on everyone else. Just like the Bush administration was editing scientist reports about the environment and like Palin trying to force her views about a woman's choice on all women except her unmarried daughter who was able to choose what she wanted to do.

I want to congratulate the voters of Lower Providence for seeing through all the tom foolery that the Democrats and Mascaro people brought on the Republican Candidates, Eckman and Thomas. According to your paper they gave the democrats a good woopin at the polling places. I heard that they took 9 out of 10 wards, now that's a thompin in this neck of the woods. It looks like Brown and DiPaolo finally got some help in fixing what's wrong in LP. Good luck fellas and Lady! Way to go LP Republicans!

Anonymous said...

No offense Whoopin but the Dems lost by the same 500 vote margin they always loose by. This is the same old LP. There won't be anything new or exciting here for the next 100 years or so. It's the most unimaginative, boring place to live ever.

Anonymous said...

I think it will be interesting to see what the courts say about Thomas & Eckman and their band of goofballs. What this election really says about Lower Providence is that no matter what kind of Republican you are, you will always win if you are the Republican endorsed candidates. Even if you smear your own kind in the process and bite the hand that feeds you. The Democrats may as well stay home and put their feet up and watch the train wreck until some more Democrats move to this town. Of course, what Democrat would want to live in a town full of Dem-haters and right-wing Christian lunatics? There's no such thing as a moderate Republican around here. It's a little scary for those with any differing viewpoints to live in a community of such extremists. Of course, none of them think they are extreme which makes it even scarier.

Stan- Here's a question to pose: Why haven't Americans accepted Barack Obama as their president yet and why is he not able to command the respect that other presidents have in the past (regardless of their party)?
-Curious about all the disrespect for what is supposed to be the most revered position in our country.

now that Eckman and Thomas are in waiting in LP (congrats), it would be wise to allow the new board to make the judgements on the new trash contract.

the current board configuration went for the arc in the spring and got hammered at the polls.

the trash issue was a deciding issue in the recent election with all the mascaro litigation in the courts and the democrats' mailers.

there is no urgency. if mascaro's contract expires, others can enter the fray for a bit to see how it works out. we can let the market decide instead of having our own personal unfunded government mandates for trash collection.

if it is that bad to not have a township-wide contract, we can always make one later.

we would not want to have the appearance that something untoward was being done as dinniny and company are moving from majority to minority status.

lp is no more or less exciting than any other place on the planet. it is what you make of it.

I am extremly sorry to see that you got out of the wrong side of bed again and are in a foul mood. After this past election, Lower Providence will again be an exciting and viable township with everyone working together for the good of the Township and its residents. No longer will the special interest groups be getting special privleges and favors, and paybacks will be history. Wake up and smell the coffee, it's a new day!

Where is the proof of all of this illegal activity that has supposedly been going on for the last several decades? Please provide some specifics b/c all we ever hear are accusations, not prosecutions. Since the Republican party has been in full charge of LP since the stone age, why does anyone think these 2 Republicans will do anything different? I've heard it so many times in the past. Really, someone tell me what is new and exciting in Lower Providence? I didn't hear any of the candidates talk about what they're going to do to bring jobs here or new revenue, just what they don't think belongs here. It really is the most uninteresting, lackluster town around. Other townships and borough are seeing rebirths of new businesses, restaurants and cultural venues while were still vying for the next bank or grocery store. Boring. I will bet that absolutely nothing worthwhile will be coming to LP in the next 6 years. Then we'll see who told you so. Just more Republicans interested in collecting a small paycheck for sitting in meetings and getting nothing accomplished. Yippee.

Anonymous said...

Professor-

Don't you mean all the Republicans will be working together again for their own new special interest groups? You're painting an awfully cheery picture of LP with nothing to back it up. I agree with the earlier post 11/4, nothing will change. Same old, same old.

If LP is so lackluster and boring WHY DON'T YOU MOVE?

Why can't you be a little more benevolent and give the new board members a chance to operate together, and withhold your sarcastic comments for at least three months? If at that time, any so called favorite interest groups are granted favors then you will have the right to criticze At this time, all it sounds like is sour grapes and I am sure that you really don't want to present your negative side just yet. As I said previously "wake up ans smell the coffee." 2010 will be the dawn of a new era!

What's new and exciting in L.P. Just last month three members of the board gave permission to allow apartments on Ridge Pike. Right in the middle of Dininny's future beautification of Ridge Pike district. It would have been nice for you to sign your name so we would be able to keep you in the loop on current projects. Six years is a long time for you to sit by and wait for the impossible, try attending a township meeting and insert your thoughts, in reading your blog it seems you do have a chip to get rid of.

I just noticed that Joe The Nerd never uses a Capital Letter when beginning a sentence - Joe, did you learn to type in the service? I interviewed a Vet and he was fast - but, No Can Use The Shift Key On The Typewriter - Is It Necessary? Well - I thought so. I hope you were not that person.

On another subject - I'm just one of those Republicans that think Obama was not qualified for the position of President. Many comments he has made makes me wonder why so many feel he is or was qualified. A great talker, does not make a great leader.

The transit strike may have unfortunately helped your favorite people get elected. Especially since their constituents have more $ to get around to work and back to the polls. Just like they support Limbaugh, the hypocrite, who said drug users should be jailed... except for him with his illegal oxcontin drug use.

Also, funny how that most favored person of yours, Palin, is only shopping her tabloid in select cities, not any where Democrats are in the majority. This from a person who went to 5 colleges to get a degree and never used it if you go by her "unscripted" speeches, especially the turkey speech. ROFL!

To poster of November 5, 2009 11:05 AM, sounds like sour grapes to me. Just what have you done for Lower Providence? The Democrats ran on the trash issue and got buried in it. It is too bad that your candidates didn't attend any of the various meetings on trash collection and options for same. They could at least expressed their concerns and recommendations to the current board. Instead it is now woe is me, how come we lost even with all the Republican outs helping us.

I say too bad for you and your rag tag group. It if is so bad living here in LP why don'

It was a great day at the Polls. I visited with a retiree at Shannondell. Their Apartment overlooks the Shopping Center and also the Blvd. that has not been completed to Park Avenue. They have always been active in LP - no matter who would benefit. But, the one thing they agree on is that the Blvd. needs to be completed - a thru to Park Avenue. We shall see! Maybe after the "shed" comes down, things will change? - Right!

I am certainly NOT a Democrat OR a Republican. Again, apartments in the middle of Ridge Pike?? What's so exciting and new about that? Nothing. It would take millions of dollars to make Ridge Pike "beautiful" and that isn't going to happen. I've been to township meetings in the past and I watch them on the cable channel but all I see is a bunch of hot air being blown about by the same old (and yes I mean aged) people. I could care less about what either political party in LP does to win elections, but as I pointed out earlier, it's always been run by Republicans and right now, there's nothing to write home about, nor has there been for the last several decades. I didn't see any responses that answered "what's new & exciting on the horizon for LP?" which solidifies my point. It's boring and there's nothing going on that would bring people here to spend money or improve our economic state. If you can prove otherwise, please do so. If I had the money, I probably would leave but it would also be nice to see some of these Republicans, past and present, bring something to the township that people could get excited about. There just doesn't seem to be a creative or inspired one in the bunch. I guess right-wing goes along with right-brained.

1 - i like ee cummings.

2 - if caps is shouting, i will say my thoughts in a quieter mode and allow their roots to take...

3 - as far as leadership of obama, we'll see. the last guy this far into his term allowed the wtc to fall and was planning wars without end. obama still has a lazy susan full of issues from bush jr. that literally made jr. blanch and the rest of us wretch.

i like the fact that obama doesn't get rattled. he is taking his time and thinking out what he is doing. different leadership style for a different time. he is using the congress to get what he wants.

as far as his political acumen, look at the NY-23 race he put into motion by selecting an R to run the army. he gets points for reaching across the aisle in a non-partisan way and he gets a bonus D in the process.

gotta love it.

Let's see:
I volunteer several hours a week at my child's school and also at a neighboring school district, I allowed a residnet who lost his home to live with us for three months until he was able to get back on his feet, I hold food drives twice a year for the local food banks, I helped a neighbor get a job with a company that I had previously worked at when he had lost his, I donate to ARA, the boy scouts, the library, and the Methacton school district fundraisers all year long, I have provided free child-sitting for neighbors who couldn't afford to pay someone ( oh and BTW, I also have a full-time job)...I could go on but I think you get the point.
What do I want to see in LP? Some cultural venues that benefit the township with job creation and economic growth. I'd like to see an larger effort to improve the air quality, the recycling effort, create local jobs, and more police to help the overburdened force we have. What I don't want to see is more housing, more pharmacies, banks and grocery stores that are all pretty much the same. The variety of what we have is awful. You have to leave the township to find anyhting of cultural or entertainment value. Places like Phoenixville and even Worcester have many more family-oriented activities, exceptional restaurants, theaters, and unique shops that all generate jobs and tax reveue. We just simply are lacking the caliber of venues. Step it up and ask for something better instead of bending over backwards for so-so. Go out and find these venues instead of sitting on your behinds waiting for something to come to you. That should be a requirement for the job of Supervisor...bring at least one new source of revenue to the township in the first year or you should step down. Of course I'm sure everyone will respond and say "that's not our job" which technically it isn't so why do they promise these things when running for the position? Really, someone at the township bldg. should be doing this(and he knows who he is) but I think he's overburdened as well. Isn't there anyone who knows what makes a community special and makes people want to stay there more than a few years? Look around and comparison shop the other townships. What are they doing right that we aren't? How did they get it (probably better tax incentives)? We can do alot better. It's hard work and time consuming but if you're not interested in putting in that amount of effort, then this isn't the job for you.

Anonymous said...

What is wrong with LP? Not a whole lot, it is, or was a village. A few supervisors in the last 20 plus years figured it should be more, especially on the business end. Those of us that moved here from the surrounding towns and townships was indeed because of the atmosphere. Our kids all had a nice local school, a new high school and swim clubs within a few minutes drive or walking distance and the commute was short to work. The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts flourished - we had many local men and women that gave up their free time and vacations to make sure the kids were trained in skills that would serve them well the rest of their life. The Theatres in Norristown always had that special Saturday Special for kids and shopping for the Adults could take place during the hour plus that the movie ran.
So, exactly what does LP really need? Well, I do believe we have almost the same setup, but the "I want it now" generation are the parents NOW and they are unable to cope with the "I Want It Now" and blame it on the Township.
Norristown vs Phoenixville - now that is a challenge. Phoenixville has been working on the improvement of the town for the last 20 plus years - they did not destroy the theatres or buildings that housed businesses when the main employers went under, they, one by one, built them up and publicized the event. The area is getting there - but not quite, because not too many businesses are able to hold on until the surrounding area has improved financially. Now, Norristown, on the other hand is starting - but their big plan is still a mystery. Businesses went south and so far there isn't any sign of their return and our Reps. in Washington do not seem to be interested in what use to be and how we now long for its return. The "Hill" (GE), The Tire Companies, Burdett, & James Lees - gone! Now, what has replaced them? Where did you say they are located? You are right not in Norristown,Bridgeport or the general area. The County & State has been lacking great leadership and it shows. So, no matter how much you volunteer, it will never be enough because our way of life and our childrens' way of life has changed.

I wish it were me said...

You make some sense, but, an overburden police dept. give me a break. A $110,000 manager, managing what? L. P. needs Supervisors like Mr. Brown. Supervisors who have the time to look for the things you are suggesting. If the manager cannot do the job, find someone who can. You can't have Supervisors with young family's and expect them to sit though five hour meetings with people saying nothing. If it was'nt for Mr. Sassu's three minute clock, the supervisors would be there all night. And finally, we are in a recession were do you find all this companies to solve our problems? You are quite the problem solver, speak. By the way, THANKS for being a GOOD neighbor.

This is to all the Republicans who are patting themselves on the back over their "diversity slate" taking six of the seven county judge races:

Let's be clear about this -- Montgomery County can thank its Democratic majority for the diversity among the winning judges, regardless of which party's candidates won the election.

Montco Republicans had repeatedly marched out an endless line of white males to run for judge, right up until the time that registered Democrats outnumbered them. Then -- boom! -- the GOP discovered that women and minorities actually existed. Suddenly, their 2009 judicial slate was just overflowing with diversity. Was that hypocritical? Maybe. But whatever the motivation, it resulted in putting an African American and several women into a formerly lily-white men's club and that's going to be a good thing.

Next time though, it will be good to make sure that the thinking of those judges, as well as their gender and pigment, is truly diverse, too. One step at a time, I guess.

I grew up in a small village that was surrounded by fairly large farms and we were very luck when the crops came in - we had jobs and they were not any sissy jobs. Hard work, that our Non-citizens are now doing, is exactly how we made our way through the l930-1950 era. So, being a Republican, my children and their children will be doing the same "hard work" and I will be proud of them as they pursue the "happiness" that comes to all of us when we know it is there when we earn it.

Read on after you have finished the TH and Stans Other Blogs...Today, 11/20/09 in the Washington Post there is an article "Angry Congress Lashes Out at Obama" (under Economy Woes Take A Toll) and it is co-written by Dennis, Goldfarb & Irvin. It is excellent and check out the various Posts in response. This is showing how most of us feel now that the economy's financial picture and employment is not showing any improvement ... No Jobs and Layoffs (bad choices made by management) in the Financial Fields. Old saying seems to making its comback "Brother Can You Spare A Dime!"

Anonymous said...

Bad Choices Made by Management is correct. Now our Commissioners are giving with one hand and taking with the other. Right now it seems like it should be against the law to call employees that have worked 20+ years and tell them they are done - right now - out of here - here is your coat - no health care - no retirement benefits. Sound familiar? Well, it is happening throughout Montgomery County and the surrounding area. So, County Employees, it could be worse. If you have a 9-5 job, stick with the exact hours and go to your second job, we did. Don't take side trips for your boss on the way home - you are not doing him a favour, nor the County, they need to know exactly how much time it takes to get the job done and $$$ should cover that time spent.

It seems Montgomery County needs some lessons on how to run their Government. I read in a Lancaster Newspaper that they, Lancaster County, are only in need of laying off 19 staffers to bring their budget into balance. How do they do that? You know, keep the cost down? Frick and Frack should take some lessons from them. Castor is actually the only Commissioner that said NO on many occasions and was criticized. He was correct.

Anonymous said...

I hope the Republicans are on the comeback trail -King Hoeffel,Esq. does not like any Judge telling him he is wrong when it comes to running the County and all employees, those that were elected or just the run of the mill employees. The ethics policy prohibits all employees from politicing during working hours, or on their own time. Our District Attorney and Sheriff challenged Hoeffel in Court and won. Judge Nicholas ruled it invalid as it applied to any employee under supervision of the DA or Sheriff. I believe the Judge was correct - the DA and Sheriff should run their office and all personnel the way they see fit and our Commissioners should accept "Change" when it is in the best interest of our County and the smooth operation. Although Castor said he is willing to go along with the appeal, because he does not want any County Commissioners throughout the state trying to rule every election and the people running for office in hopes it will be shot down (waste of time and money). The State Court has ruled - King Hoeffel has lost and it is now time to move on.

Keeping all matters of government on a level playing field is why we have both genders representing us locally.

The Republicans always "knew" not new that women existed - but right now we are in need of "new" committee people on both the Rep. and Dem. Committees. Too many are really "old" because of aging or by not keeping up-to-date on Township,County and State doings. Take a check on committee appointments in both parties - kind of gray, right? The time is now for that change. The Dems. are now saying the Rep. are being UNFAIR - really? Yes, same type of remark on his own turf, and out he went. Good Man too. Now, really this is compairing apples with apples.
The other remarks are coming thru loud and clear is BUYING VOTES...in order to have health bill passed...and that too includes Reids name at the head of the list. Republicans should now make signs and parade outside of the offices at the Capitol, as was done by the Dem. back around 20+ years ago. Tick for Tack!

A good man would not mention race when it came up for discussion on the intelligence of a candidate to run for office. Both the Dems. and Rep. have spokes people that are black - I prefer that term- and they are doing a great job of always bringing up this topic when another person of another race has problems or is being considered for an office. I believe we all have our ideas about race and some times it is brought in public - so what! I'm a Republican and we all must accept the feelings expressed by another party member or of the other party. Now, get on with the good people needed for the Senate, Governor.

We are dining with a few from the six pack again in West Chester. Now,they have many problems with outside groups wanting to run the town. The discussion runs on how the economy is heading, how we need to keep companies from leaving the town and County infact. One company/institution has be bought out and only a shell will remain in Chester County - most jobs have been outsourced. There needs to be a way for jobs to remain in the area and the only way we can see is to have our Reps. sit down with the new company and suggest maybe a satalite office, halfway between West Chester and the new home be established and jobs offered. I know there can not be an overlap of jobs, but some people do get sick or problems that are unforseen come up and a backup person is truly needed - it is called experience.
Next week we will meet in Berks County - hopefully something else will need to be discussed. February is a great experience here in Montgomery County and we will do the locals again.

After last evening's State of the Union address (or as I see it by Obama). We looked at the setup at and in the White House. No, they are not renting out rooms like the Clinton Administration - but how many staff members are on the Payroll for our First Lady? Most First Ladies had only one (1), with the exception of Mrs. Clinton, she had two (2). The total for Michele Obama is twenty-two (22). This does not include her hairstylist and makeup artist - not sure who pays for these two that travel with her all the time. She was right in her statement that someone is going to have to give up a piece of the pie so that someone else can have more - now who was she referring to? Yes, she is a lovely lady - but with this whole staff working for her, that also helps the President in the long run, they still can not connect the dots - interesting. The highest salary is $172,200. down to $35,000. - not too bad, considering there are only two in the $35,000 bracket. Let's check the budget again Republicans and make suggestions, in writing, to the White House and the new Candidates that are interested in running for office that the buck should start there in the White House's employees salary line.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, the saying by our President is the Buck Stops Here .. Does that mean me and my family comes first and the nation can have what is left in the Treasury? Perhaps this surge in employment by the First Lady has something to do with creating jobs?? Well, whatever, we should go back to just a new set of dishes for the White House? That was then, before Obama/Clinton Administration and this is now.

Today during his discussion with House Members - he said he would go over the BUDGET line by line...OOPs. Wait until he sees his wife's cost to our Government and she isn't even an employee.

Douzaine said...

We Republicans sure remember that well-quoted phrase she gave about 'giving up a piece of the pie so that others can have more'. How about enabling individuals and businesses the ability to BAKE A BIGGER PIE so that no one has to
give up anything. We're all responsible for baking for ourselves, Michele.

She sure made sure SHE got a bigger piece of the taxpayer 'pie' now didn't she?

Anonymous said...

Taking a look at the signing for Michelle's "Fat" Bill, It reminded me of the old saying my father used when a man was Hen-pecked -- Another "Honey Doer" - he will never make it in the big world. Well, he is trying. Republicans please take note!!

At last the Dems. in my family admit that their Senate Race is disgusting and a few days ago a call came in to our home asking for members to work for Sestak. Now, that really went over big!!

So glad I am not a Dem. this Primary. At least the Rep. have candidates with experience and are not sitting there with the gloom cloud over their heads.

I've seen it on TV, read about it in the newspaper and heard it on my car radio. Now I have received a letter Presorted "First Class" in approx 5 languages from the Director, US Census Bureau telling me that I will receive a 2010 Census form in the mail in about a week. Exactly how much is this whole Census going to cost before the actual count begins? I know it is important to count all people, even if they can not read/speak American English, but the advertisement is getting a little thin. There should be only a certain amount of Reps. & Sen. for each state and let it at that, because most of us move within 5-6 years in order to secure a better job or for the lack of one. So, the less People representing us the better - maybe more would be accomplished. This Census will tell us if you are illegal?? and then what???

Anonymous said...

The Census is really dividing up the dollars and allocating so many Reps to each state. The Tax Dollars count toward school funding and many other accounts that we count on for our daily lives. Complete the Census and don't worry about who knows what about you and your family, the government probably knows it already, this just verifies the facts. If your children go to private schools, this is a great time to specify that fact and the number of people living within your walls.

Anonymous said...

And how many Census Forms have you received??? So far my neighbor has received two. Some Address Files are not up-to-date. Yes, she will only complete ONE.

The President needs that Health Bill on his desk NOW, because he has places to go and things to do - forget the Abortion issue - forget the cost by 2020. Why in the world would any person in their right mind vote for a bill that down the line (10Years) will put our children in deep do-do financially. Walt Blitzer of CNN seems to know so much, has only one agenda and that is whatever the Dems. want is willed by the almighty (Mr. Obama). Oh, Please this bill needs some work beside the Abortion and they all know it and are standing in the Oval Office with their fingers crossed that no one will see the flaws and the great cost. I'm hoping to be around here in 2020, but my long term care that I started almost 30 years ago should pay for all and my Blue Cross should help with the balance of care. Has any one told our President we all will die?? It is not an option, it is the truth and our body will cease to function. So, Long Term Care is one little item my family sees as #1 when doing a budget - why can't other families see that too? I am not my neighbors keeper nor should my neighbor be my keeper.

I'm a Republican, but Mr. Steele's manner of expressing himself lets me cold. He is well educated, but, his people skills are lacking, otherwise more former Rep. and Non Party registrations would swell the rolls. We have done a fairly good job here in Montgomery and Bucks County, but then we all listen sometimes to a different drummer. A change at the top is needed. Get out the vote this Primary Election is necessary - start now with the door to door campaign as it was supposed to be done - not just standing at the door of the Polling Place and the other Party does.

Our family has a Seasonal Home along the Atlantic - now the view is again brought forth but this time by the Dems.? It was frond on during the Bush Administration when it was mentioned. The difference is?? Oh, most of the people now can see the light?

Yep! Drill Dems. Drill!!! We have some wind in Washington, but it is all hot air.

Sitting on your deck or on the beach will soon have the horizon looking like Texas - now this is how we are going to solve our environment and oil problems? China is going with their promise regarding burning coal & the use of oil for heating, etc. They believe Nuclear Energy is the answer and are placing orders for what is needed now. Exactly how is our government solving our environment and replacement of oil use?? The Republicans suggested the drilling for oil in Alaska and also the shore line states - but the Dems. said NO, NO - can't do that. Well, what makes it correct now? Yes, looking back over what was done during the two Bush Administrations make us proud and now we are on the move again with less spending but a thought-through idea on these problems. Go GOP!

Anonymous said...

On the comeback trail is one way of expressing how the Republicans handle any election. Many years ago we started using the "Street Lists" that we secured from the Election Board. The use was to make sure all registered voters were aware of the up-coming election and the offices that were involved. We now are back to Neighbor meeting Neighbor with the knowledge that their vote counts. This type of campaigning was not really followed 10-15 years ago, it consisted only of a Committee Person visiting and handing out a "Come Out And Vote" card with out talking to the voter. Change has happened in our District and we are proud to present to our voters well known and candidates that will do a great job without a lot of baggage.

Anonymous said...

Yep, talk it up on your walk around the neighborhood or visit to the shopping center. I have found many people that live in our village, that still believe I'm active in the local government and now would like to know more about candidates that will be running on the ballot this May. If, you do not know the answer, get their phone number, research and call them back...you are exactly what is needed here in Montgomery County. An Elephant Never Forgets!

Anonymous said...

Out Dog Walking yesterday and guess what?? Two young ladies stopped me and asked if I was registered. Yep, I am and since they are new to the area, asked why there are no town meetings by either Party. Oops, I have no idea, but I did tell them the Committee Man and Committee Woman's names and suggested they call. New people on the block would like to know Who is Who. Oh, by the way the two Dog Walkers were Republicans - YES!

It would be great to see more Republicans back in Washington and Harrisburg. Right now, no matter who is in charge, we will have a very large gap in the financial Areas by 2014 when all the free or less expensive rules that have been adopted will cease. Do a fast read before Primary Election and then you will have to do a lot more before November. Who to blame? The last four Presidents, plus our Mr. Obama and his men/women - Pelosi,Reid, Geithner,Dodd,Schumer, plus our Senator and Representative in Washington during this administration. Now, here in PA - why do we believe that Gambling is the answer to all financial problems? Do more with less is the answer. Too many people sit at home and complain, but if we are to see the end of increases in taxes, more volunteers are needed and when it comes to schools - students should understand the teacher is there for their benefit - they will show them (teach) any subject so that they will be able to understand. It takes qualified teachers, interested in teaching and students willing to listen, question and thus learn. Taxes would not increase because of quality not quantity of teachers vs students.

Out for Dinner last evening - The conversation came up about $$$ being spent vs need. I always thought our local business man and his wife were non-political. Well, surprise they switched to Republican because of the nonsense shown here in the state and in Washington. I told them that it really was interesting to hear their causes, but why they feel enough spending and the reasons were not justified.
So, since we were dining at a Retirement Home setting - there were quite a few people that joined us before we called it a night. Yes, we are on the upward trail as our grand kids call it, so take a hike and talk to your neighbors and make sure they come out and vote.

Anonymous said...

Yes indeed we are not on the comeback trail, we are insisting all registered voters are informed about all candidates running for office. Now, that is better than the my husband's party - he hasn't a clue. If it were not for TV Commercials any name could be on the ballot - take a shot is how he put it.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait until the Census Figures are in and verified. How will the Districts be divided?? Right now it is the laughing matter up for discussion. The Counties should have their own Reps. and although many School Districts overlap county lines, this is needed. Montgomery County should not try to be part of Chester County, a more affluent county, when decisions need to be made.

Anonymous said...

On the comeback trail!
We now have great people willing to give two (2) or four (4) years of their time to help right PA and also help the Senate in Washington to make better decisions. To make good decisions does not mean more dollars and deeper in debt. We, Republicans are frugal people, for the most part. The saying don't spend until you see the dollars in your banking account is a must. If help is needed for a project, seek help from locals. That is good advice because it bonds a neighborhood and so it would do the same for State and Country.
Check the Candidates running on you parties ticket and make sure that person is qualified and could win if the fall election. So, that means you will need to know the qualifications of all candidates - time is now to read and digest this information.

Anonymous said...

On TV today Mr. Rendell made a remark about qualifications for various positions in government. The one that struck, me not too funny, was when he had an add-on about those qualified - he stated that Mr. Bush, was not qualified... I do believe he and our present President were not qualified either - it shows because of the number of people needed to do THEIR HOMEWORK. The Media has been kind to Mr. Rendell and Mr. Obama, so the approach for any outgoing or sitting official should never criticize former officials, unless they, given the circumstances surrounding any event, would have changed the outcome. They need to take the three Monkeys approach at all times.

Anonymous said...

The count was low at the Polls, but guess who had the most voters? "R" is the answer. We may need to get to work, but our lunch break and voting made me feel great about myself.

Anonymous said...

I thought it funny when my husband stated "they are spending our money like there is no tomorrow". Well, the Republicans are insisting on less spending and the Democrats are doing the opposite. Our salaries have not increased, but our taxes sure have. Our savings for our retirement is now being used to keep us on an even keel. So, being a good working wife and a Republican, I asked Why did you vote for all those people? He said, well they were endorsed and so well spoken...The End!

Anonymous said...

Gray Matter very thin when homework on candidates has not been done and voting is because they are endorsed! Republicans need to keep saying NO to the spending and the tax increases. The Wars are still on! Well,on 9/11 we had three very bad situations, like Pearl Harbor. - So, why is this administration increasing spending in more locations and Troops too? Well according to the Decider's Plan we were to be well on our way out of there!! It will take two - three years to bring equipment and men/women home and do all the paper work, before another crisis is upon us, which is more than not in the works now. I'm proud to be a member of the Republican Party and sometimes called by the other side "The Party of No" like in "No Way"!!!

Anonymous said...

No Way! is a great name for the Republican Party. It has my vote.

Anonymous said...

Today 6/6 on a talk show. Wills was on the Pannel and there was one other pannelist that had a def. accent that stated the Bush/Chaney Administration was the cause of the BP disaster! Really, I do believe any company is given a permit from the Federal Government first. Who in the present government is unable to read. Yes, I do know the Mineral/Mining head resigned - but if we were to believe our administration was able to connect the dots and read the fine print before drilling at that debth - why wasn't the time allocated before starting the process? This pannelist talks before her brain is in gear and that is bad. Common sense is the approach the Republicans are using when they NO! on most spending bills and those that are way out of line. We will be back very shortly in Washington, if the present Administration does not take the time to check details and not always having to say "I take full responsibility" now Let there be no misunderstanding..yah right!

Anonymous said...

The problem is right now is Steele. I feel he is out of his class and needs to listen before making comments that do not reflect the actual situation we are trying to bring about.

Anonymous said...

I love John Boehner's comment regarding the financial regulation bill Obama supports. He stated Obama's support amounted to "killing an ant with a nuclear weapon."
Our President needs some rest or a long session with an "Anger Management Group" -
Boehner is correct - stop the oil leak, stop trying to cause more problems in Arizona's non-legals laws and get the job market up and running.
Now, Boehner is correct in calling Democratic actions that the Republicans believe are out of touch. The "Now" Party is trying too hard to be everything to everyone and now the s---- has hit the fan.

Anonymous said...

Interesting, right now is how we old timers are making our presence known. To be true to your Party's original platform is how it is all coming about. Just like most companies - if you venture too far from the origin - you will not succeed. Good Stock is what will win any race. The attitude "because I say it is so - it is" will not cut it and the Dems. are now finding that out. Keep up the good work!!!

Anonymous said...

We have the wrong Party having control of the House - The last four years has shown how Congress as a whole should not be working. Out with those that are in and in with new that can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Small businesses and don't spend on anything that is not within your ability to pay for NOW.

Anonymous said...

Attending a Reception on Friday a few old friends that use to be a Republican and switched to make a showing of not liking the turn of events, told me "really it does not make any difference which party you are affiliated with, it is the correct person running for office"...I asked "well, how do you see things now"... "So far there are too many down sides on the Democratic Party and the Republicans are correct in using the NO"- Thank You!

Anonymous said...

Since we are a split family when it comes to politics, I get to read all "E" mail that really is meant for my other half and so the Sestak "E" sent on the 17th had something interesting in the closing - it was Sincerely, and directly below "nb! sp;" - what in the heck did that mean? Then of course came - Joe Sestak, Member of Congress, Mailed at Tax Payers Expense.
I now see how he is spending his money while still a member of Congress but it is a little tacky if you are running for the Senate and this is one free-bee to keep your name before the public at no expense. So, Republicans take note! We may have another Payroll Problem with Federal Money as we did here in PA. and we are now trying to place them all behind bars and never, never have them in our Government again.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, there is a very thin line when it comes to funds used by a Congressman trying to keep every person in his voting district up-to-date on what is happening and the funds that is supposed to be marked for his campaign if he is running for another seat ... Now, maybe we should insist that any person running for another office must take time off from his present office when it comes to using funds paid for by we the people.

Anonymous said...

I believe any person running for an office OR holding office should follow the nurses way of treating a patient - Be Kind, Make them Comfortable and READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS 5 TIMES BEFORE GIVING MEDICATION OR GIVING OUT INFORMATION TO THE PATIENT. Sestak and Obama have a problem that needs to be corrected before anything else happens. We Republicans have learned that just a slight remark can take down the biggest person - because they DID NOT READ THE REFERENCE MATERIAL. Welcome to the world of politics! Now, on to the November Election - see you at the dinner table on Tuesday Nite!

Anonymous said...

Because the President and his men did not read the whole article and got bent out of shape because of a Post on a Blog we now have a law suit against the Blogger, which should also include all personnel in the Federal Government that caused the firing of this woman. This will not be resolved by a beer on the White House Lawn. I can't wait until the fall elections when statements are always taken out of context to make a point. So, we Republicans should be aware of these little games and read and research any comment made during a campaign.

Anonymous said...

Come back, come back Pelosi called as members of her party and also the Republicans headed out for home and campaigning for their office ahead of them. No! No! you can't start yet - our leader wants another bill to sign before anything else happens to destroy his plans and the time table his head shrinks have written in on his to-do list. Just can't make a move without them - now that is sad. The bill under consideration is a good one but where are the funds coming from, that is all we Republicans are asking. Many Republicans are unemployed and businesses are shaky, but we are business people and there is a need to know ...WHERE WILL THE FUNDS COME FROM? This will be all I need to hear from here on until Election Day. Since this is a split family - we need to know.

Anonymous said...

I believe Phoenixville has many great Republicans working for the Good Olde Party. While sitting in traffic on Rte 29, I noticed the signs are up and proudly displaying their choice for at least three offices. September is usually a great time to go out and canvass the area to see who is for or against a certain candidate. I made that suggestion when I served on a committee and those in attendance laughed. Well, I did just that and my count, that I handed in two weeks before the election, was only off 10 votes. Most people will tell you the truth.

Anonymous said...

I understand Nancy's husband ia trying to convince Dole Investors to donate to the unemployment extension funds for all we lowly under $200,000. take-home pay employees. Now, was that Nancy's Teeth dropping again?

I hope Steele or Palin will stop trying to tell everyone how we the voters think. I prefer to do my own homework and so should every person in the Republican Party and take their thoughts to their various Clubs/Committee Meetings.

Anonymous said...

The Republicans should have their get-out-the-vote and fund raising in full swing. If you were in this home, you would know the Dems. are really spending time on the fundraising right now - now I mean not only local but the national. It is a laugh at the dinner table when the phone rings - the bet is on - Dem. or Rep. wanting money and for how much?? What I am trying to tell my fellow Republicans, we are not the top fundraising caller - maybe we need to get on the horn now. The get-out-the-vote and making sure all new people are registered is not going on either. If our committees would check their street list to find out who votes and who does not, this year could be a big money and voters voting year. Know your area is the answer and if there is trouble, taxes or other problems, help those in need, it pays off in all ways.

The Social Calendar for both the Republicans and Democrats. That is what is being reported in various columns. On the Republican side at least. The Dems. must have a History Teacher writing that column or may he is the father of an employee on the Staff of the Times Herald. What I am getting to is how are the various candidates campaigning and is what area. Will they have a Question & Answer TV Show? No!..on Debates they are useless - most of us already know their background, but what we do not know is how they plan to vote in the Senate or House or whatever on various concerns of "We The People"...Are they aware that there is more to holding down a Federal Job than the "Me" that seems so important to them.

Anonymous said...

Did you make it to Washington?? Both activities in Washington at the same time...Now that was an accomplishment. I hope to see more of you out on the local level before the fall election. Listen to all that are running for office and then check it out - better to do a little work ahead of time and be sorry later. Keep your money in your pocket until you have decided exactly which candidate is worthy.

Now that you took the trip to Washington, what do you think of the Rail System? Well Biden and Specter used it all the time. Maybe that is why it is so great.

Anonymous said...

Our family lives and attends colleges below Washington, DC. The rails are the only way! You think we have problems - you have not seen the area I am referring to. In town there are still the unsafe area, but if you are a smoker or snorter - it's there. We take all visitors to the other areas that are of interest and use Public Transportation - safer and less expensive. A real clean-up job is needed in Washington. Maybe after this administration is finished with their adjustments the Republicans and any other Party will take a long hard look at Washington, DC. It is like Philadelphia - we need to be proud of the city. Republicans need to get out the vote and register all 18 year old now for the November Election. If these young people have been reading what has been going on and how their future is at stake they will vote.

Anonymous said...

All 18 Year Old young people get a Registration Form upon graduation - that is true in our Township. But how about those that are not graduating from your local schools or just plain quit? House to house is the answer.

Anonymous said...

I wish the TH would publish the number of newly registered at the Court House during the month. This would tell every person who is doing a great or not so great job. These figures I'm sure are available on line, but the people working out there for both parties are not always on-line so to speak.

Anonymous said...

The number of newly registered in each party would be great for our Tuesday Dinner Table group...If it is not possible to print the info. on a monthly/weekly basis, is there an information line that can be used? We get lost in the switch from one dept. to another person, etc.

There are many types of Republicans and as you can see Delaware has them. It looks like the wrong person won the Republican Party Nomination - sad and now "The Republican Party" will not donate to the winner so she can campaign against the Dem. - interesting! Well, it sure does not pay to cross file, does it? Either you are a Republican or you are not.

Anonymous said...

I see the shock of not getting their person in is now almost over for the Republican Party in Delaware. The people that made the contributions had something to say about it all. How many transfers were there from the Dems. to the Rep. Party before this election?

Anonymous said...

The NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY, with the "Tea Party" wants the whole world to know not everything is OK with our Government, which is being run by the NOW GEBERATION. With the help of the Not So Dems. on their side, it looks like a whole new Party is being formed with forward thinking young people - go for it, is what I have to say. Our "split" family and most of the Tuesday Dinner Table Group are backing them. November will be interesting.

Anonymous said...

Tues. Night Dinner Table should be interesting. Although not everything is local or statewide, the Tea Party and the interview with Mr. BO will probably take place. I believe he has no idea how much help he is giving the Republicans by just trying to explain his take on this group. It now makes this new party more interesting and now we here in our group will be checking it out more thoroughly. Tell me where did the commercial, Wall Street, that is given on Toomey come from? As my friends say - Oh, he's bad! Right!!

Anonymous said...

Great Dinner Table Conversation yesterday. Glad to have all newbees. It is funny that the Dems. only are interested in the Republican Candidates and who are their Candidates? No don't laugh, they are so concerned about Bush's Tax Cut and have forgotten Obama's Tax that runs out this Month or next - Never mind our President is out there with Nancy and I am sure this will come up for discussion. Well, that was one point of discussion, plus the Health Care Bill requiring EVERYONE to have coverage or a fine will be imposed - now that is interesting, how will they enforce that one? I have long term care, as most of us around the tables have - Why should we have it if everyone is going to be covered in some way or another. If we have a disease that is on the no cure list - why waste or money? The other subject was our Fire Company's ability to survive with all the new developments and apartment dwellers that do not see that it is necessary to contribute? Our local situation, covering Montgomery County is unbelieveable - Commissioners and all their men/women?? Who do we turn to? Next week should be interesting as this is one discussion point. Generally, we are on the up turn with much to be proud of, Thank You!

Anonymous said...

We will be out-of-state on business on election day...when is the last day to request a ballot? The Republicans in Montgomery, Chester and Berks Counties should be advised - after all we do need a great showing. This is the first time that I will not be at our Polling Place on Election Day. So, get the word out and help the Republican Party and the Independent Voters know that you care a Dead-line is a Dead-line!!!

Need to get back to the Dinner Table again. Right now it is strictly business and my time is not my time until around the first of the year. Thought it a bit funny to see the celebration for Columbus is being held the day after - Tuesday. Oh well, what's the difference? Well really most students are home on Columbus Day and they could attend or not - shopping you know with Mom. Attended a roast up in Green Lane on Saturday - great attendance. I believe there were more Republicans than Dems. in attendance, by invitation only, so it makes it hard to figure.

What a Saturday - We had a great choice, but only one was for a Fund Raiser and that was in Limerick for Rafferty, the others were for Masonic Meetings, Phillies Parties - so where to go? A meeting, then a Beer and home to finish the Ball Game. The weather was OK, so travel for all of us was fine. We are a great group that believes many things can be accomplished if prior planning is used.

Toomey vs Sestak Debate on Channel 6. Please note the two commentators- now would you say that this Debate has a stacked deck? Oh yes with a wink and a slight smile - you can bet your last cent on it. It should be interesting and amusing at the same time for both Parties. I hope you all have been checking if statements being made are truthful. Up and away Republicans!

Interesting Wednesday Evening. I believe Toomey is the "Business Man" and Sestak is a "Purchasing Agent" if there be a title assigned. So, leaving the Abortion Issue out of the equation I believe Toomey would be the better choice for PA since he is Pro Business and understands the working parts of business that makes it work. Sestak on the other hand does not look at the Big Picture and downsizes military Equipment production while we have Troops, that are Volunteers, fighting for us and equipment replacement that is familiar to them must be made available. As for the "Kill Them" and trying any foreign person that has or was a part of 9/11, etc here in the USA, not good, we do not need any more side shows. The point of Health Care - Sestak only was concerned about his daughter with the brain tumor - I can understand that - but why did he sign on for the Whole Bill, it truly is causing most citizens an increase in their Insurance coverage. If I had my eyes closed and weighed in on the issues - Toomey remains the best person that understands issues. So, Republicans get those Voters out come November.

We have been checking as most of the dinner crowd - FactCheck.Org, it is A Project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center. The in your face politicians are of the old school and the need for a correction is way over-due. A seasoned candidate that is well known for good things is better than an arrogant newcomer. Be proud Republicans we have great candidates.

We, my husband and I, voted around 1:30 PM. We are a split family, so I know who I voted for and I presume he went straight. The number at that point of those voting was in the mid 300s' ... That would be about a little over 100 for an off-Presidential Election. It will be interesting to see around 10:00 PM who is ahead. Well, after that time - I'll read it in the TH.

Anonymous said...

Have you read Bush's Book that he is promoting? Without reading any part of his book, two men in our dinner group, laughed and said he is constantly trying to change history. I for one would like to read the book and make my own judgment - don't you think that would be a great idea? We all have lived through his administration and more than likely many prior President's Administrations, so no judgment call should be made before you read the "written word" ... We need to keep our progress going with all the good young people that are now being sent the Washington.

We have been trying very hard to make sure candidates are truthful and any person knowing their background would vote for them. Now, we are in need of some person to speak up for the Republicans here in Pennsylvania every week in our local newspaper. The social end is OK, but now we need a change and information, good or bad should be reported from the State Capitol weekly. That is how the party will grow or as the newer term is Grow The Party - maybe we need some type of fertilizer spread in our State Capitol. News, good or bad is worth the print space.

I got a copy of President Bush's Book for Christmas. I watched "The State of The Union" last evening. I believe the speech should have been entitled
"What Is Right and What Is Wrong With Making Our Government Work More Efficiently." Instead, although it was a good speech and some jokes made it less dull, I believe it should have been more factual and it would have been less time consuming and the $ amount would make more sense when we start repairing our Government's way of doing business.

With a Governor like Corbett the Republicans really should hold their heads up high. He knows how our Government works and also its short falls. So, those nay sayers in "Blue" should welcome this man, because he is our only hope here in Pennsylvania that can cut the spending and bring jobs to our "Keystone State."

I guess we "Reds" can now refer to the "Blues" as those on the other side of aisle as the "No" group or "Nay" sayers. It really must be hard for the Oh So Right Party to find out they made a big OOPS on many occasions. Here in PA we need to correct many wrongs that Randell thought our state could not do without. We have a great Governor that is taking his time and that is how it should be. We sure have learned from the Federal Government and Mr. Obama how not to get the people behind your plans because they can see the end of the tunnel, where many politicians are not able to do so.

I know our State has many problems, which are financial. Well, how about our Fire Companies? Looking at what is happening in our area, we should be giving more support to our Volunteers. Where are the big contributors for the Arts, etc.?? Building and making sure the building is safe and sound should be a part of their contributions.

I know we Republicans have a habit of telling every person who will listen exactly what is wrong with the government and the world. But right now, at our dinner meeting, one young lady suggested our reps. in Harrisburg only travel there when they are in session. Sound good! Use of Fax, phone (conference calls)& E should make most of the work to be done more simple. Staff will be maintained and local offices maintained as usual. This should go over big with most people because of the GAS prices and maintenance on cars & overnight expenses.

Yes Anonymous or the Blogger that starts all comments with "I", our representatives in Harrisburg should only spend the days there when they are in session. After all they are our representatives and any committee appointment can be discussed via phone, etc.

Do the Unions through out PA believe they know better than any professional how to run a government? By mistake I received mail for a person that lived in Montgomery County, but not near where I live, back during the Presidential Election. So, yes I know where the money is going and how/who donated to their cause. Big Business is very much alive within the Unions. So, Republicans know your neighbor.

I for one have been following the Sheriff's role and those interested in serving. I believe all Republicans should do their homework and decide who would be able to take over and run this office without any problems from day one when elected. We have very few people that can say their candidate has this qualification. Be your own judge and for heavens sake, come out and vote. See you at the poles.

We believe he is the top one for the position - Yes, I said "He". So, that will count for 4 votes.

What's in a name? In this case it really makes no difference. The qualifications for Sheriff is there, so as far as I am concerned he should be voted in.

Have you noticed the Democrats always refer to Polls taken regarding the Republicans? Comments are made on many shows that always down the Republican Party? I for one really think that they, in their own narrow way of thinking, are promoting the Republican Party, since they have not written anything the Democrats are willing to change to make life better. One program on TV is called The Office and the lady responsible for this show is a Democrat and it shows. It is off the air - that is good. Designing Women was another show that was political, so we decided not to watch it because our family is a split (2D & 2R). That program is also off the air - that is good. So, enough with trying to impress viewers that work all day and just would like to have a good show that would make them laugh and forget the great problems other people seem to think we should share.

June 2nd Anonymous our Family agrees with you. We have stopped watching two more shows because of political over-tones. The News and Special Sunday AM Programming is enough for all of us. Exactly why a certain character is either Democrat or Republican does not make the program more interesting. Get with it and give us good programs that make us laugh. Life is too short to worry about politic all the time.

Not to worry about publicity for the Republicans - the Democrats are doing it for them. There was an article a week or so ago that said the paper had an older person writing a column for the Democrats - I believe he is a history buff? Really, he is not that great - a college student majoring in the history of US/World would be great. This then would serve both parties, if correctly done.

No problem concerning the Republican Party's Membership. Quietly they have succeeded in having members of their party elected. Many were independent or Democratic. It is called solid planning to make sure the right person is in place. So, you can see there is no Comeback needed.

If the young people running for Commissioner's positions are juggling their own finances as most - we are in trouble. There isn't anything under the sun that they feel we need today. Think first before voting them in.

I would like to know how and why the present candidates are running for the Commissioners Office. I feel non of them are qualified, except perhaps one on the republican ticket. We here in Montgomery County can not afford to have any more candidates in training - they either do or do not know what is required.

There is a column that is written for the eyes of the Dems. and to under mind the Republicans in the TH. Why this elderly man gets so much space is beyond me. Well as a Republican he is just a little above As The World Turns on TV. It leaves me flat and as a history buff, I think he stinks.
