Vote with your mind, not your heart

It's your turn now. I've said all I have to say. You know where I stand and now it's time for you to let everyone know where you stand. Did you vote for Obama or Clinton? Are you ready for 'change'? People need to vote with their minds, not their hearts. All of the change Obama is talking about and all of the rhetoric Clinton is spewing is aimed at your emotions, not your mind. McCain is talking common sense approaches to our nation's problems. So, no matter what you did today, think about what you're going to do come November. The Democratic primary has been entertaining to say the least, but when the general election rolls around it will be time to get serious. We're talking about the leader of the free world. Personally, I don't want a rock star in the White House, and I don't want a woman who learned from her husband.

When the rubber hits the road and it comes down to who to really vote for, out electorate will come to their senses and vote for the only one who can do the job, John McCain. This man has character, integrity, and experience on his side, the other two have little or none of these characteristics.

Go get um John!

John McCain is a genuine hero. Being a hero alone, does not make a good president.

Those who witnessed his sustained attack and tirade with a reporter on the airplane about a discussion with Kerry about his being Kerry's running mate in 2004, you'd have to wonder about the effects of hardening of the arteries and other physical deterioration from a hard life.,

While I personally like John McCain. I think he'd be a great guy to share conversation, I wonder if you looked up John McCain on the usually reliable Wikipedia, if you, crystal ball, would feel the same way having him as your president.

Hi Bill,

If you are relying on Wikipedia for your information, you should find a better source for your material, maybe, like a library.

You don't want a woman who learned from her husband???
I don't want an editor who is sexist! Cancel my subscription yesterday!

I'd vote for a woman for president...just not this woman. Remember Whitewater?

I agree with your statement regarding the "person" needed in the "White House"... If you want entertainment - go to the theatre or Night Club...we are not in need of this type of person running our country. If you want a "woman" who has watched her husband when he was in the "White House" &(where/when) she served her apprenticeship and how his ability to tell you and other countries what they wanted to hear (right/wrong) and take credit for the actions (if it turned out to be correct) - then you have one on the Dem Ticket. - But remember the Compound Fire, Meridian, Trade Center & the attack on our ship in the Med. & the action taken by the sitting President - will she too follow his lead? How about raising taxes - yes that really hit my pocket and also the money in my account for retirement remember? Don't get angry with the Editor, Managing Editor or Staff Reporters when giving their views...you can write a letter to the Editor and also go out and work for your Candidate. History and who did what is interesting and will help you understand why people do & think the way they do. Your choice in Nov.

Remember Watergate? Remember Iran-Contra? Remember "ready my lips, no new taxes"? Remember Iraq? Remember "Scooter" Libby? Remember Katrina?
John McCain remembers Katrina!

Now you get the idea of doing your homework before voting Anonymous #1 & #2 - 4/25. How many more reasons are there for all of us to check the candidates and their friends that will be supporting them in one capacity or another once they are in the White House.

Crystal ball questions my source for non-political and objective information about "just the facts" and suggests a library.

I have always found that books about people have a slant, and that is particularly true about political figures.

So just what would be a source of pure objective facts if an open source Wiki-pedia doesn't cut the mustard? Is it possible that McCain's ex, or his former military buddies would lie about his antics when he wasn't a presidential candidate?
Would the fact that he attended 22 schools before college for multiple reasons be reason enough to vote for or against him? Is there anything about a presidential aspirant life that shouldn't count when we decide how we cast our vote?
Maybe Stan can suggest an unbiased source or special factors to consider.

"All of the change Obama is talking about and all of the rhetoric Clinton is spewing is aimed at your emotions, not your mind."

Sure, if you're not looking at the actual message. I didn't vote for Obama because he makes me "feel good." I voted for him because of his policies.

Too many people in this country vote based on what the media tells us to, or based on some nebulous concept like race or gender or outright lies. Ill-informed voters coupled with media manipulation led us to the most disastrous eight years in modern history.

I didn't vote for Obama because he's a "rock star," I voted for him because this country has come completely off the rails, and having someone in the White House who understands that is a far sight better than someone who thinks its still on the right track.

Obama's the best man for the future of America. We need his basic sense of decency and hope and optimism. Of course we want and need to feel safe, but we have everyday lives and we want real jobs, not flipping burgers, and we need health care and good schools, without having to know or watch every detail. We don't want to depend on those guys in tents in the Middle East telling us how much we can drive or heat our houses. We should be able to trust our banks and investment houses. We shouldn't have to care about all those "insider" political games in DC.

Obama doesn't need tens of years of experience to bring us all this. He's a smart guy, and he will be smart enough to have the right advisors and people in his cabinet. We're living in a different world, a global economy with almost instant communication. Let the younger people who have grown up in this different world have their chance and build their future.

As a woman and pro-choice voter, there's no way I could vote for McCain. He flip-flops on issues like clean energy and I think is uncertain of his own abilities on the issues of economics. I'll take Hillary as the most experienced in foregin policy, most pro-choice and most knowledgeable on the failing health care system. I think she is a hero as well for keeping above the fray during all of the tumultuous times during her husband's presidency. Of course she's told a lie or two along the way but so has every other politician past and present and every human being I know. If she didn't have some character flaw, she wouldn't be human now would she? I think she is right for the country at this particular time in history. Go Hillary!

Talk about emotions this weekend. If my Pastor appeared at a Press Club or before any Televised Christian Group and acted and spoke the way Rev. Wright did, I would suggest he resign as a Pastor. We do have the division of Church & State for a reason. If he thinks his congregation will back him when he puts on a "comic show" as he did, he is wrong or our people have not moved ahead as MLK had hoped. Obama took his time in giving his reaction and thoughts on statements made by Rev. Wright today. Immediate reactions are required only when Our Country is in peril. No Pastor (Teacher) (Protestant,Catholic,Jews etc.)who spoke about our country the way he did should remain as the Pastor.

Pastor Wright sounds like a "Super" Delegate for Clinton. We have two here in PA that were the opening acts on her visit locally. Why not add Wright, clowns are always needed.

McCain may not like the idea that women have a choice regarding their bodies, but the Supreme Court says that is one thing that is not covered by the Constitution. So, Pro-choicers, if you believe McCain is the better candidate & of course the best choice to be our next President, you must make sure you send the correct Rep. & Senator from your area to Washington- you have a choice keep it that way.

I just read in a newspaper from Potter County, the Dem. racked up 1,047 for Clinton & 567 for Obama and the Rep. had 1,666 for McCain, 527 for Paul & 342 for Huckabee. I believe Paul will remain in the race on the Rep. side. So, I see McCain winning up in that area (McKean,Potter & Tioga)and from the looks of it, Rendells' claim may be right about PA is not ready to support Obama, but on the other hand are they ready for a Hillary? Mr. Hoffel & Mr. Rendell should remember how well they were received/supported up in that area of Pennsylvania when they ran for office - not good was it? That is "Gods Country" and Republican.

At our service last week our Pastor once again stated the Church has no room for Politics. So, why is Rev. Wright's church any different? The United Church of Christ is more laid back than most churches and discussions on your Politics never enters the conversation. Your Pastor may be a Republican or Democrat - soo that is his business, keep it that way, worry more about morals and treating your neighbors as you would like to be treated. End of sermon...

I really am interested in the up coming election and how we now are suffering from not taking care of business over many years when it came to foreign policy. We have the United Nations that should be setting up programs that would encourage good leadership in health & education. The basics - food, clothing & a roof over your head is needed all over this world. A do nothing approach is not acceptable. How do the Candidates running in the Presidential election see our place in the world for the next four years? Who would be our Rep. to the United Nations? Why? Has the United Nations become obsolete? Are we now going back to 1938 - 1965 era- I hope not! Tough questions need to be asked of the candidates before the November Election.

John McCain has vowed to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will overturn Roe V. Wade. There's not a pro-choice woman or man who doesn't see what that means. It is the strongest admission ever from a presidential candidate to go after what has been the law for over 30 years. This issue will always be the most divisive one in our country. With the exception of the religious righteous, I think people are ready to put it to bed and leave it there. Sorry, John. It's a "no" from me. There are other more pressing issues to be concerned about.

McCain's opinion is the same as most Christians - but when the unwanted pregnancy hits your own family - women should have a choice... Don't try to legislate how a woman takes care of her body. Men need to learn it is not a cool thing to believe they are the decision maker and only they have control of a woman's body, that is why we have so many men in our prisons. A no vote when/if it comes up for a vote in congress to appoint an ify Camdidate to the Supreme Court. Make sure you have the correct Rep. from your area that believes as you do - if not, work for one that does, it makes no difference which party he represents.

Selling the USA - If you were ever out of work and had to go on welfare, maybe then you would understand why...It is because Foreign Countries are now running the USA. Think of it -Large Banking Institutions, Car Mfg., Tire Mfg., Shoe Mfg., CLOTHING, and now PA is considering leasing our Turnpike to another foreign country and of course the latest is "Bush Beer". Check the data on how far back this began...Yes, for sure the mid 1960's ...Steel,tire companies, rug companies were being gobbled up/closed down because of foreign imports/acquisitions. We need to get this country back on track or we will never again be able to become the "Greatest Country" in the world where people wanted to come to live and counted on when their country needed assistance.

Convince an unemployed U.S. Citizen to work for the money that a person in China or Thailand works for and your problem is solved!

Why work? The Government will make sure you have funds for your household. It isn't steak (not good for you anyway), but if you are interested in nutrition a little will go a long way. US Companies and Unions need to rethink how they pay workers and how much workers can estimate their salary will be - now and down the line. If you are starting a family - make sure you are able to furnish your family with food/lodging/health&dentalcare/clothing be responsible, never depend on our Government. Check now for answers from the candidates to see how they expect to correct the out-sourcing. This is ONE PROBLM that can solve our many problems.

You guys missed the boat in February. Never owned up to your mistake, and now you've used your front page to further embarrass yourselves.

On the historic occasion of Barack Obama's victory in the Democratic Presidential Primary, you listed the event at the bottom of the front page. At the top, you continued a travesty in updating a sensational murder trial.

Gordon, Stan, and all of the Times Herald staff, you should be deeply, deeply ashamed. There are many times I have questioned the journalistic merit of your publication since I became a subscriber. Today is the first time I am seriously considering a demand for a refund for the remainder of my commitment.

Dr. Walter Greason, Ph.D.

In all fairness, the Times Herald is a local paper, so the person who decides what to put "above the fold" probably thinks or knows that is what will sell the paper locally. It's the only way to find out what's going on around this area, because we're too small for TV. Obama is big national news, he was still on the front page, but he is on TV 24/7. Everybody knows he won.

Mr. Huskey. Give the Doc his just dues....Rebate him and maybe he will fade away in the sunset.

50 cents a day will not break the paper.
