The real scoop on Lower Providence

OK, it appears to me that residents in Lower Providence wanted twice a week trash pick up and the lowest responsible bidder was J.P. Mascaro and Sons. Seems like the right decision was made last night by the board. My question is - as probably was the case with the American Revolution Center - are there really just a few disgruntled LP residents who squeak the loudest, or does the majority truly believe the supervisors are selling the township down the river? Just to let you know, anyone who posted to another thread on this subject it was not approved, please post your response here. I want to keep the comments going under the appropriate posts. Thanks.

The retirement complex called Shannondell is just that "a retirement home with great facilities for the very ill or unable to care for a home"... The move many people make, hopefully they have thought it through because it should be a happy time of their life. Now for outside arrangements that were made when the construction process began and that is the street that was supposed to connect Egypt with Park Avenue ... what happened to it? The need is there for it to be completed. Now that we have a new crew working for the best interest of the whole township and all people that live and work within or in the surrounding area, this project should be number one and the retirement complex will be a non-issue.

We need "Road Work" done NOW! The Shannondell Road Project should be top priority. The cut-through which some of us take is Egypt and Robin/Thrush. Now, there is an accident waiting to happen. The Thrush Lane Parking Lot to Lantern at 8:30 AM and of course all night long needs help. What happened to their driveways? Empty! The corner of Lantern Lane and Thrush - drainage all year around. Ice in the winter and water going no where. How often do our Supervisors check with the Road Supervisor to see exactly what is going on and that preventive maintenance would stop short of a big, big problem down the line??

Concerning the Shannondell Road that has not been completed as a thru street. If the Township Personnel are responsible for the completion delay - we do have a big problem. I do hope the personnel involved are not copy cating the county employees/departments. This street was designed for a thru street. Changes are not called for. Hopefully with the new employees that can read, the work will be completed and a retirement home can be just that for all those who believe their last 25 should be easy street with the ability to participate in the local events... Fix the Shannondell Road as originally planned!

Interesting Dinners that we thought would be dull - The state actually sends question forms to those residing in Retirement Homes. This is one way of checking to see if they are capable of driving, especially on heavily traveled streets. Now, we see why the Shannondell Street leading to the retirement village is not completed. Most of the residents are really a bit (?) age wise when it comes to renewing their license. The younger residents want that street completed as was planned and makes sense. No matter how well you drive in any type of traffic, it is always better to have less well traveled (i.e. Egypt/Trooper Roads) as a no other choice when really there is if the Township would follow the original plan and approved by the state. Get the shovels out now - no not for the snow - but to give the Township Residents a better way of traveling without the congestion and of course safer.

The street to no where, namely Shannondel. Those that now are permanent residents will shortly be of age that usually it is time to forsake driving and leave the driving to the young, not young at heart. This street is needed as a thru street to Park Avenue from Egypt and also Trooper Road. Really why has this matter taken so long - who is dragging their feet? The stores out in the Trooper Area would benefit with this street made a thru street. Blinders are certainly on most of our Supervisors and Supervisor's Road Advisory.

12/23 - They are still looking and they have a great sub. which of course great luck for the township. In LP the oldes still run the show, that is why certain road projects and building projects have come to a halt. Common Sense - No.

Ok, enough is enough when it comes to Shannondel Drive and the whole complex. If this development is open to the public (Dinner, Theater and Hospic) then this street should not be a deadend. The whole situation that we have been discussing for the last several years has now come to a head. This was intended to be a through street from the very beginning and for some unknown reason our Supervisors have seen fit not to complete this area...WHY? The "Herald" should have a column on this very subject.

January 2010 the Township had a problem with the Townships Manager's contract. January 2011 has gone by and..... now it is January 2012 and he is gone. The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth should be given to all township residents. We all have broad shoulders from the long term people governing the township their way no matter what the lowly citizens would prefer. So, what happened? We have a great local Newspaper - Try answering the questions that have been on hold for two - three years. Shannondell's Road situation is out there now and is coming to a boil... I read that some where - but it is a true statement.

I attended a "Remembrance Luncheon" this past week and the discussion was on the various developments where friends remain and where their parents live. The Audubon Park/Audubon Close Developments seem to be forgotten and buildons and businesses conducted out of the homes that were never to be permitted, street parking vs safety for walkers and unkept homes. All of the problems that are now causing concern could have been avoided if the Zoning was strictly enforced. A little checking into why a person/company wants to do anything to a building should have been checked into or neighbors checking into their "Deeds" - that were there a long time ago and why these people purchased their homes in the first place. So, we now have very big problems that the township is trying to sweep under the rug or hoping it will go away - no not this time. Buildons, street parking, businesses in residential areas and streets that are not completed or maintained need the NOW ON THE TOWNSHIP'S TO-DO LIST.
First step - check these developments - now the additions, parking, businesses done at the locations and the streets/conditions. The incomplete, i.e. Shannondell Street is long overdue. There is much work that needs to be done, so let's get started.

Come on LP and West Norriton... We have a missing person. Together we will be able to solve this problem. Cindy has many friends and is well known - so I say...This is a puzzle that does not have a missing piece - we need to get it all together quickly.

Today is a great day to check the "Blogs" in the TH. I looked over all Blogs and the comments, well those I thought would be interesting and I checked the time - it was all of 40 minutes. LP "The Real Scoop on Lower Providence" has next to nothing. So, have all the problems I and my husband hear about been resolved? Don't think so! Is it perhaps the weather? Rain! Surely that would not stop all work on the roads - infact it would be a great time to check out those drainage problems. So, LP everything is up to snuff? The next newsletter should be very interesting explaining how busy the township employees have been completing the thru road construction to the Shannondell Street from Egypt Road to Park Avenue. It has been how many years and how many Supervisors have come and gone? Those remaining or have come back to save the township from whoever keeps this from happening and makes governing this township interesting doesn't it?

What is going on with the Real Estate Business? Any home that goes up for sale and is 25 or more years old is being purchased by a Real Estate person and then it goes to a Real Estate person that will list it as a rental, because that is the type of business he/she is in, just to take it off the market. The home, will be listed at a price that would make you believe it is a fair price. What needs are there? You are handy? You make how much per year? No most young couples can not afford a home with very large rooms and a great lawn. That is why this gentle person has taken over the Real Estate Business here in Lower Providence. Either the Supervisors or managers have been asleep or they do not care how the various neighborhoods have been going down hill - the Deed said What? Zoning changes approved - why? Now the whole neighborhood is changed. The Streets are for what? Parking? Don't think so. Take a look now before the whole area looks exactly like your attention span right now - very, very short.

Shannondell Drive needs to be completed!!! Wake up Lower Providence. Any person visiting that complex or that area will tell you the same thing. The area along Park Avenue and Eagleville Road are now congested and no matter how much talk there is, it seems the area is doomed to be "the area from no where or to no where" - Sad!

Snale's Pace is how LP moves when there is opposition to a project. The Shannondell Blvd. & the completion of the building on that acreage is an example. The thru street on the original plan was a good one. It now has come down to the plan does not sit well with some people that live at this development (elderly mostly)and the exit on to Park Avenue where it was first planned and remains the best place for this thru street. The elderly living at this deadended street right now really should not grumble. I have seen their driving habit, while waiting in line on Shannondell Drive how swiftly they zoom down the hill. The backup on Egypt Road and Trooper Road could be done away with if only this Shonnondell Blvd. were completed. I'll bet those living in Eagleville and Collegeville could cut off at least 15-20 minutes on their travel time and the nerve racking area done away with after a full day at work .

All LP Bloggers should welcome our new Township Manager and suggest he take up reading the TH Blogger section. Stan's area is great for all-around news and complaints, as any call to the Township Bldg. will get you no where.

The Township Manager has arrived and has been trying to make sure any business trying to locate here in LP gets a fair shake. The Ford Property really needs to have the Zoning Board take a long hard look at this property. Go BACK and revisit why there were so many complaints regarding this property and the Zoning Board Decision. To go forward we here in LP need to start checking DEEDS and why certain properties were given permission to start a business there. I'm not too sure about Ford but if you look at small developments within the Village of Audubon you will notice there are businesses being operated out of the homes with trucks sitting on the front lawns and the street advertising the business. Street parkers have taken over the back streets that are constructed for only two lanes of traffic. If the Township can clean the streets and have the year long parking of vehicle that were moved to make sure this was accomplished - why do we put up with such nonsense?? No Parking on the Streets Over Nite could help in both of the above ...businesses and street parking.

Exactly what is going to happen when the Village Shopping Center's Genuardi's Store closes...??? I hope the situation is resolved very quickly. We have a situation where the apartments and the village has elderly people that either walk or have some younger person take them to this shopping center to do their banking, laundry, Dollar Store and food shopping - usually once or twice a week. Oh!! Yes, we do support this area and also our Post Office. A letter from our New Township Manager and the oldies that are on the Supervisor's Role really need to get out of Eagleville and think on the future, using what is old and making it work for all. The Shannondell Drive needs to be completed also. Trying to get to Dental/Doctor appointments is really a problem when the busy traffic has all of us tied up. The area at the Giant Store is unbelieveable with parking in Fire Zones -- to save a few steps or maybe parking is too much trouble--can't figure it out... Back to Genuardi's replacement - what is the plan???

Anonymous said...

I have supported Genuardi's Store since time one. I have watched many changes in this area, but if this Grocery Store is lost for good - so will the whole shopping center. Right now we have everything with the exception of a clothing store in that shopping center. We now need to have our Supervisors put their thinking caps on and find a way of keeping this store right where it is. Their prices are right and their meat department is above any other local store when you need quality & price. The clerks are local and know most customers by name and how/when they shop. I'm one person that can not say anything bad about this store because they have helped this community in many ways to make it what it is today. The Genuardi Boys (yes when they were young) would deliver our groceries - so why now, after they are not around would you not keep this name and their store open and follow the way it was intended - a super market with service for all.

What is going to happen to this Village ??? Well, many years ago - 25-30 or so, Jeffersonville was considered one of the best places to live within the Norristown Area. Take a gander - It now looks like there is no leadership when it comes to Zoning and that is a shame. The Village of Audubon was a great village 35-45 years ago - now look at what has happened. Homes have been turned into businesses with large signs that use to be not permitted. Who is to blame?? Who indeed, we the people who constantly permit/vote in the same old, same olde people that only know one word when it comes to planning, other than the Business Park, and that "YES" go ahead and now there is no return. Main Street (Egypt Road) Park Avenue & Pawlings Road Intersection is the area that is the most concern and then of course WWII developments that the Zoning/Supervisors have let go way down hill with businesses that are or should never be permitted within the development. So, now we have a shopping center that needs tender loving care and a development, which is a retirement home, that has been able to make it a public entertainment area & hospital with only one way out and that is on to Egypt Road and not a thru street to Park Avenue which was the original plan --- many years ago. Traffic now at the two intersections mentioned that could have many ways of helping the traveler and the local developments and that is with the Shannondell Drive opened (thru street) NOW. Driving from Eagleville and Collegeville is a challenge every day in order to get to work. Short cuts have been made by many people and the home owners are paying the price on top of their HIGH TAXES. We need a do-something, not a do-nothing Staff of Supervisors and Committees. There is a gentleman in charge now, it is his challenge to say "NO" when he sees Zoning that is out of control that is making LP look shabby in areas that is most visible.

Voting in LP has problems only where to locate the Polling Places. We also do not have coverage of people that are familiar with the voting area they are responsible for while they are working the Polls. So, in order to get-out-the-vote all Committee People should get the Poll Workers to help them when they canvass the area the Poll Worker is responsible for when it comes to the new "Photo ID", that is a welcome solution to trying to guess if the signature looks the same as the last time they voted or they have changed over the years and also if they have moved, exactly how long ago?? All of these questions are important before any election. Get Out The Vote !! A little work ahead of an election will make sure the correct person(s) are elected. The coverage at the Polls should be cut back so any person wishing to park near the entrance has this opportunity. Think On All Of The Above.. It is your job to make sure we have great people governing this Country.

They say it could not be done until it was completed and on time for this election - meaning Photo ID or any alternative and GREAT POLLING EMPLOYEES THAT KNOW ALL THE RULES. There is only ONE PERSON AT EACH POLLING PLACE THAT MAKES THE FINAL DECISION - THE JUDGE OF ELECTION. The Committee People need to make sure EVERY PERSON ELIGIBLE TO VOTE has all the UP-TO-DATE information BEFORE ELECTION DAY. The job of COMMITTEE PEOPLE is to Get Out The Voters and inform the VOTERS OF ALL AND ANY CHANGES. This one time the Dems. & Reps. need to get their act together and stop calling out for help after the fact. The Unions really handled the last Presidential Election very well and the funds were there - do you remember? So, if you are Pro Unions I assume this will all be almost the same if you like the way the present administration is handling all Federal Business. If you are against Unions or the way our present administration is handling our Federal Business you really had better get off your Adoublescribble and get out the vote. Do you know your Committee People? If not - Why? You have a computer - use it.

Shannondell Retirement Complex has their own Voting Machines and I believe they should be up-to-date on Photo ID. That Polling Place is one that should have a 100% voting turn out. Now, since this Polling Place has been established and in a very short order - remember? Why is the Street not finished? We have quite a few accidents that would have been much easier to take care of if the traffic problem, because of this one way street, had been completed. Wait?? Why?? Winter means very unsafe driving conditions. Who in their right mind would not like to have less traffic and icyed up roads to contend with? A safer way to travel is all we citizens ask of the Township - the state already gave the OK - so? The two things that I have comments on is something more then one citizen of this township is asking. In the News Letter - make some statement once in a while so that we know you,the Supervisors and Township Employees, are actually listening to us.

Oh my as they look at the "Y" taking over the "Club" that Mr. Neilson has a 50 year hold on it has become almost laughable . Some of the present employees or those taking care of various areas of business made Mr. "N" take out the street he had built but without every person's approval through the Golf Course, now the present "Club" property. Our present Township Manager looked at the request in the updated "Y" plan and said - This might make this street a "Cut through"!!! Really! How about all the developments that are now having the same problem that could be solved if the Shannondell Street were completed.

Anonymous said...

Voting Places should be within the Voting Area that the Poll covers. There are three located in one area (Audubon School, St. Andrews & Shannondell Retirement Home). It is OK because St. Andrews is very community minded, but what is wrong with the "Club"?? It has all requirements and it is in the Voting Area that has been using St. Andrews because of the lack of a "Public Building" that could accommodate all voters.

Sounds good to me Anonymous 10/7/12. I play golf so...a great turn out could possibly happen. There is a traffic light that helps all ages to enter and exit.

The Genuardi Shopping Center is a great place for everything you need except clothing. There is one problem and that is the cut thru to escape the light at Pawling and Egypt. The use of the Center is unbelievable and the Parking where there is a Fire Zone is just one of the signs that has no meaning. Exercise would do many of the those that do not think the law is for them could use a little exercise. You know where the grocery store/liquor/beer/dry cleaners within that block not too many people park in the fire zone - it is up around the sporting/bank and special food area that is the problem. Maybe the signs need to be repainted.

Hay this weather is bad and no school or work you can't beat that. So, a good day to check OLD entries. I believe LP has a problem because the personnel running the Township have been in their positions too long. A new group of well educated personnel willing to work many hours for "O" dollars is needed. Other Townships seem to have a healthier look at the future. That is just a thought and since this Blog is so old maybe a new type should be started other than the Townships which is one sided.

Anonymous said...

Too old? I believe we need to have our code enforcement officers check on rentals and businesses that are being conducted out of private homes that are within small developments of the Township. A business should have the address of where the main business is located. A telephone number on a truck or car does not do it. As for rentals, are there rules that should be carried out so that the property is safe and physically taken care of?
