New Year, new possibilities

OK, let's start the new year off on the right foot.
We spent the past year complaining about everything under the proverbial sun, and don't get me wrong, we'll get back to that real soon. I just wanted to start off the year with a blog about new possibilities in the new year. I've been working with some really great folks behind the scenes to find a new home for the Montgomery County Cultural Center. We're even going to give it a new name, the Norristown Performing Arts Center. It's going to be a place where you can go see off-Broadway quality theater and musical acts that you can remember from days gone by. Did you know Greg Allman was booked for New Year's Eve at the Keswick?
We're going to start a new feature in paper and online about people in the are who do good deeds, just because. 'Faces' will debut the first week in February. We're going to launch a social networking site to accompany the profile pieces so everyone will have a place to share their stories.
Those are just a couple off the top of my head. How about you? What do you see possible in the new year?

Lets begin by being positive about 2009. I like many others are glad to see 2008 go away. But as we often hear, "This is the USA... more than just a pretty face. We inspire the world!" As an immigrant and citizen I prize and value being an American. It is hard for me sometimes to understand why often everything has to be about being black or white in America. Lets think of ourselves as Americans and the unity that makes us such a great force for good throughout the world. Always leave it better than we found it.

We love to go into Philadelphia to see various shows and concerts. But, now that we are unable to drive after dark , we take the train. Sounds good, not really, as we now have to deal with the bus to and from the station or take a cab, which we usually do. The big problem is the return trip...are there connections to Norristown and from Norristown - a Bus? a Cab? So, Philadelphia is out of the question now. If Norristown would build a Performing Arts Center close to the bus line and parking garage - this would solve many problems for senior/not too senior couples that enjoy good music and shows. I'm sure the bus service would accommodate patrons that wish to patronize the center. It needs to happen.

Your reporting style leave much to be desired. You wouldn't have a paper if you didn't report on the "county seat" procedures. Your racist reports just proves that you are lock-step with the jack-booted thugs in Montgomery County. Unable to report the real truth about real criminals, just because they are of the caucasian persuasion or plead their bellies because they are female. One sided reporting and you drag an innocent child into it to play up the tabloid reporting style to sell more papers. Your paper lives up to the Ann Coulter style of reporting. Nothing but a bunch of racist bigoted reporting. No pictures of white criminals, hide the story of a man who served the neighborhood for over 45 years in the bottom of the paper, yet put a stupid story of the DA able to hire a $24k copy clerk in the headlines. Everyone knows your priorities, and your priorities SUCK bigtime!

Anonymous 1/10/09...I'm so glad you enjoy reading the TH on a daily basis - it shows, because of your ability to recall where various reports/pictures appeared in the paper. This is one newspaper that covers local happenings if asked. If you or your family are active in any community service, this would be a great time to toot your horn by asking Gordy or Stan to assist in more coverage. This then would help your interest and also help the TH to increase circulation. The need to know what is/is not happening here in our area is exactly why I read this newspaper. Some schools require a report on a specific article that appears in newspapers. So, to make a long story shorter - stop complaining and enjoy the TH.

Mr. Huskey; Maybe just Maybe you should find out who the anonymous writer of the 1-6-09blog is and offer him or her a position on your advisory board. It is with the local paper that we are keeped aware of the LOCAL happening in our surrouning communities.. Maybe the blowhard would be happy reading the out of community papers
with all of the shootings and murders. Your priorities are ok in my book and the only one that sucks is the previous 1-10-09 writer. If it's ok with you, I'll sign my name the same as there's.

Stan - Have you ever been to the Farm Show in Harrisburg? It is on Channel 9 I believe. Many local youth with various interests take part in the activities. This weekend the High School Horseback Riding Skills were demonstrated. This is serious stuff and today the judging of Apple Growers entries and the little Beefers -great for the young person that raised it - but the final part - no thanks, I'll stick to chicken or veggies. So, turn off CNN for a few hours and you will understand why we all should be proud of PA. Farmers and our State's Educational System. "We are Pennsylvania - be proud!"

And to anonymous almighty, you are probably one of those bigoted religious persons who thinks it's okay for slanted reporting. The tabloid herald reports the crimes but doesn't show white criminals' pictures or even follows up on tips about a white con artist criminal.

It's more like reading the comics when you read the tabloid herald. Just like pumping up palin who's proven to be a corrupt politician.

The Almighty speaks: So it's a Black and White issue with ya all.

If you notice, the Times Herald print their comics in Black and White so where's your beef?

Religious, maybe yes, but what section of the paper can I file that under? Church Services, right?

Since the Election how many members of your party have been indict?

Why don't you say what's really bothering ya all? Don't beat around the bush with a lot of garbage that can be picked up at curbside.

Stan, I would like to see a "Bus" Schedule published on a weekly basis so I'm able to go from LP to K of P, Royersford, Pottstown, East Norriton, Worcester and also Phoenixville and Exton Mall Area. If there is such a thing it would be helpful. I still drive, but I have noticed a few older ladies walking down our street early in the AM and are along Egypt Road around 10AM - I have not idea where they are headed, but it seems a long time to be waiting for "The Bus". This would also help us when the weather is bad to go into Norristown and Phoenixville where we volunteer several times a month. This is just something I would like to see during this comming year...Thanks!

Anonymous said...

A Bus Schedule? That would really help, but the Bus Company is the one that should advertise in the Times. I use the bus, but trying to make connections is almost impossible. Black Rock Road County Facility is one place where there are many visitors and volunteers. If organizations using volunteers would call the Bus Company, I'm sure a published route (i.e. Norristown/Phoenixville Area to Black Rock)could be established simply by the use of their computer program. This then could be published in the Times Herald. Right now it's "You Can't Get There From Here"...

To AA, not almighty, but you may need to go to alcoholics anonymous with your fantasies. I didn't start the black/white issue, Stan, Margaret and the rest did. Stan censors comments, so I was surprised to see my latest one in here. I have listed the issues, but they never appear. The posts didn't have any "bad" words in them, but they don't show up because they are not on Stan's agenda. Stan, be a man and print this.

I think Palin should be nominated. After all, she inspired people to vote Obama into office one wink at a time as well as with her campaign statements about the Bridge to Nowhere. Courtesy of FactCheck.org:

A Bridge Too Far

Palin claimed to have stood up to Congress on the subject of the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” the Gravina Island bridge in Ketchikan, Alaska, about which we wrote last November.

Palin: I told the Congress, "Thanks, but no thanks," on that bridge to nowhere.

This is not the first time Palin has cited her choice to kill the bridge in 2007 as an example of her anti-waste stance. It’s true that she did eventually nix the project. But the bridge was nearly dead already – Congress had removed the earmark, giving the requested money to the state but not marking it for any specific use. Palin unplugged its life support, declaring in 2007 that the funds would not be used for the Gravina bridge.

When she was running for governor, however, Palin expressed a different position. In 2006, the Ketchikan Daily News quoted her expressing optimism and support for the bridge at a Ketchikan campaign stop.

Palin, 2006: "People across the nation struggle with the idea of building a bridge because they’ve been under these misperceptions about the bridge and the purpose,” said Palin, who described the link as the Ketchikan area’s potential for expansion and growth. … Palin said Alaska’s congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge as part of a package deal and that she “would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge.”

Palin also answered "yes" to an Anchorage Daily News poll question about whether she would continue to support state funding for the Gravina Island bridge if elected governor. "The window is now," she wrote, "while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist." It was only after she won the governorship that Palin shifted her position. And even then, it’s inaccurate to say that she “told the Congress ‘thanks, but no thanks.’” Palin accepted non-earmarked money from Congress that could have been used for the bridge if she so desired. That she opted to use it for other state transportation purposes doesn’t qualify as standing up to Congress.

The bridge reversal is not the only matter throwing doubt on Palin’s credentials as a government waste reformer. Watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense has reported that the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, which had not previously received significant federal funds, hauled in almost $27 million in earmarks while Palin was mayor. (McCain has explicitly criticized several of the Wasilla earmarks in recent years.) To help obtain these earmarks, Palin had hired Steven Silver, the former chief of staff for recently indicted Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, as Wasilla’s lobbyist.

And Palin continued to solicit federal funds as governor. A request form on Stevens’ Web site shows that she requested $160.5 million in earmarks for the state in 2008, and almost $198 million for 2009.

Parking.. I would like to see in LP & UP Townships a ruling & one that is enforced where Over-night parking on the streets is not permitted. A New owner moved in and questioned why there were a few neighbors that did not use their driveways, but chose to park on the street, that made it impossible to see oncoming cars, plus school buses and road maintenance trucks had to go around these cars. She said no one person could give her any answer, except they were "Townees". I really do not know if this could be enacted - but, during bad weather, certainly it should be enforced NO OVERNIGHT PARKING or ANY PARKING WHEN WINTER ADVISERY IS ANNOUNCED. This is one way of cleaning up some neighborhoods without insulting the owners.

Anonymous (1/10,1/13,1/14, &1/15).. Exactly why are you so angry? It seems maybe the election either went your way/did not go the way you preferred. All people, no matter what the color of their skin, are not at the right place at the right time. Criminals need to have a "Photo Op." every time they have a hearing/sent to jail. As for Ann Coulter - don't read her column or view her TV Show turn it off. Today, is a great day - why not enjoy it. I'm positive tomorrow will take care of itself without our grumbling beforehand.

What a "Hoot" - I turned on the Farm Show just to see exactly what they were showing before lunch. It was a "Square Dance" using vintage tractors driven by both men and women. I got stuck one time while on vacation trying to follow directions in one of those squares - forget it. I don't know where they learned to drive that well while listening to the caller, but our young people should take a few lessons from them. A different way of life shown here in PA is welcomed right now.

Stan - Exactly what do most people do for excitement and entertainment during the week/weekends? Sat. is usually, taking kids to what ever they are interested in, Grocery Shopping and then clean/laundry. Once a month we try to get together with friends - sometimes to a show in Phila. or to the mountains. I do believe some of our friends would love to see their children, now in their teens/twenties and are artistic in many areas, get involved with a Performing Arts Center. We follow the old Methacton Theater Group and of course "The Barn". Where else are there locals participating??

Maybe you need to get back on the short bus as you obviously didn't comprehend what I wrote.

"No pictures of white criminals"

It's typical, just like the high school teacher who brought his kkk suit to "work" and never got disciplined. And, this was in good ole Montgomery County!

I understand Obama has on his "To Do" List, before he can say mission accomplished and that is how he pronounces "AMERICA" - I thought it was my hearing, but now quite a few people have said it is that Chicago way of speaking - Ameriah is how it sounds. Oh well, two Presidents that have their own way of killing the American English Language,is better than one that does not know the definition of "it"... So, this year, maybe all politicians will take elocution lessons.

Why not get your picture taken with a poster made with a finger pointing to "who ever" and state why this man/woman is soo important. I am very impressed with our District Attorney's work, and also those before (Castor & Marrino). County Attorneys are very important as is the local police department. Really, what a person looks like really has no meaning to me - only that they are being jailed/appear for court hearings and end up in Jail. Why would any person care about the color of their skin??

Talked with friends in Tioga/Potter County Area and their big trip was to the "Farm Show". They do not take vacations, because a Dairy Farmer counts on that "Milk Check" to keep them going throughout the year. I'm sorry, not too many farmers/gentlemen farmers were unable or did not care to attend this great event. There is much fun out there and the cost is small.

Thank You Anonymous's "To Do List" entry... I needed a good laugh! We shall see how things shake out in a few months. Hopefully a little turnaround with the Auto Industry and Bldg. Trades. If the industries were truly concerned with the USA, they would not have tax shelters off-shore accounts. We should not give any company help, unless they are truthful about taxation and pay all taxes due, and that means stay out of Delaware too.

Your Column in todays paper was great. It seems that so many people hear on CNN and the Nightly News that the Economy is so bad that we all will be on some type of assistance tomorrow, if we do not start with OKing what our newly elected officials THINK is necessary. Well Henny Penny, I have invested in areas that are not all I would like, but the companies are stable ... so, I will stay with them. We have had many hard times, but it is how you approach them, when out of work, and exactly what type of jobs you care to take, when in need. Take a part time position, ask companies if they would like help sprucing up their bldg. I can not and will not feel sorry for someone who tries to live, as he/she did when employeed and expect to have sympathy and state/federal help.

Yesterday was a great day to stay home, but this AM there were the problem cars parked on the street and the driveways empty. Why can't we have our Road Crew put a sticker on the cars, that are there day after day, when cars, road crews & school buses have the problem of getting around them especially in bad weather. The sticker could say "Please use your Driveway during inclement weather."

Yesterday & Today I did my Volunteer Work in Downtown Norristown. When traveling down Marshall Street, the same people that come in for food etc. are walking around without a care in the world and getting free lunch or brunch, which ever you call it,evidently it seems to keep their bodies in good shape - but where is the incentive for them to pick up PT/FT Employment? They have the correct clothing/shoes/boots to work outside - - why not have them work on projects that will clean up the area? Many do not have the command of the English Language, but understand enough to take directions. This type of project would be great for the New Year..it is an old/new possibility.

I believe one post a few weeks ago suggested all cars be removed from the street during bad weather so the street crew could salt and plow. Why do people insist on using the street instead of their drives. Could it be they are unaware of the hazards they cause for neighbors trying to exit their drives? The Boro and Townships should take a look at these streets. Most streets are built for two lanes of traffic and this means moving triffic, not parking.

Anonymous said...

No Free Ride should be the answer Anonymous 1/21. If you volunteer and these young/middle aged people are receiving food/clothing, they should in turn volunteer to kleen up the town that has been so generous to them. No speak English - No problem, show them what to do and the time they have to complete the job. Pay is the Free Breakfast/Lunch they receive and a "Thank You"...Sound Good?

I read in a local newspaper, not sure if it was the TH or PI, but the fact stated that more people will pick up a newspaper on Monday Morning after the Super Sunday Game than will watch it. I'm for that, just look at the money saved and you will have something in print that you can refer to. So, keep the presses rolling and a few pictures will do - then on to what is really important - earning a living, because we're not collecting salaries with as many 000,000,000.00 as the players.

In L.P. Anonymous Parking your car on the street originally was to slow the traffic according to our former Chief of Police. Now, it is because there is no rule that states they must clear the roadway for any reason. If cars are not parked directly across from each other, it is OK, so I've been told. Now really, the streets here in LP are not a training ground for NASCAR. We need to clean up our streets.

The Streets are grimy and some streets have telltale marks from leaky cars that have been parked there---will there be an extra charge for these property owners for repairs and cleaning???? Time to start cleaning up the township's streets and drainage areas. Check with your township to see if they have a schedule already set - most have it already on their calendar that is not known by the citizens.

Anonymous said...

New Possibilities...A town and township could change their image by cleaning up the street where cars are parked without regard to their neighbors when they have a driveway and also the streets that need to have drainage problems taken care of as Anonymous said on 2/3. Any worker that works for the street department should report these facts to the head of the Township or Boro. The Supervisors usually view road conditions at least two times a year - hopefully on rainy/snow days. This type of caring would amount to a better community to live in. If problems of unkempt homes and property has caused, or believed to have caused, Coatesville's problem. The word is "Pride" and this should be built into every person's thought of community, and self.

I would like to see our Schools assigning a weekly report on articles in our Local Newspaper, namely "Times Herald". I know our library has issues that are free to read and so do the schools. If we can promote a well thought out program for kids, and they need to discuss their assignment with their parents, maybe we will have more kids loving to read and also using the library too. There are too many assignments that that require computer use,and of course there goes the mystery of the hunt through reading books and newspapers. Just a thought for "New Year, new possibilities"...

Anonymous said...

I think Anonymous on 2/5 hit the nail on the head concerning the upkeep of communities. The Townships/Boros should form a committee entitled "Pride" and the areas that seem to have more problems than others should ask the homeowner to participate. There should be a checklist made so that all areas are asked the same questions (i.e. Streets maintained, off street parking available and used). This would help communities keep the areas from becoming an eyesore. This should really be taken seriously.

The Masonic Hall and the Montg. Natl. Bank which later became Phila. Natl. I believe would be great sites for a Performing Art Center. There is parking available on site and close by. The appearance of these buildings make you want to "come in and join the party." There were bowling alleys in the Masonic Hall quite a few years ago, which could be an added attraction. Change the inside a little, but the exterior should remain the same.

CEO Kindler has the right idea regarding the economy.
If you and I now own stock in a company that we felt was sound, otherwise we would not have invested our money in it, we should encourage the companies to stay the course, but to scale down or just not declare any dividend for the next couple years. Back in the 1940-60, I know my parents maybe got 2 cents,if they were lucky, on the dollar at most. Some years the smaller companies paid zero. The economy has never been that great until the Cold War was over "Tear Down that Wall!"no longer existed. If every company tries to keep their expenses down, but not completely close, but go on a short week, we could get out of this trying times.

Went shopping at the Exton Mall yesterday and I'm so glad Boscovs Department Store is there along with Penneys. Macys (former Strawbridge) is almost there, meaning no great bargains. I noticed that more people are using cash when paying for their purchases and the clerks confirmed my view. Now, this is exactly how we should approach the economy today. If you are unable to pay for the purchase, hold off and save until you have the cash. The only time our family uses the card is when something breaks or we are on vacation and the money is not on hand, but in the bank to pay when the end of the month is here.
Now,the Slots can be a lot of fun, if you have money to use this type of entertainment, but to have them close-at-hand, most people using them are not in a class that can financially support a habit such as this and will end up with blaming the "Economy" for their failures. For the "New Year" keep a Log of All Spending - you will be surprised as to where your small change went.

Remembering the Past could give rise to New Ideas for Norristown. I noticed the mention of the Masonic Building and next door Montgomery National Bank. They both have changed hands probably many times. What I do remember seeing "Hank" walking the beat and stopping in the Continental to pass the time or shoot the breeze with Mimi and Leo Reager. We had a radio station with Larry Molinaro and John and Marian Banzhoff doing the business end. Now that was way, way back, but we all shopped in Norristown, went to one of the 4 Theatres and specialty shops were plentiful. The "Mall" became the thing and businesses closed, because you could get it cheaper at the Mall and transportation was available or you had your own wheels. We now need to make "Friday" and "Saturday" Nite in Norristown happen. A Performing Arts Center would be a start. An Arcade Building, like the two we had at one time with little dress shops, jewelry for the young at heart and maybe a place with music that kids can come in and dance or just hang out. Now, you know I'm old because there were quite a few places we frequented just to dance Jitterbug/swing. Think old and maybe new will appear in Norristown's revitalization.

OK our Fearless Leader (Governor) needs to get his head on straight. How can he let a company (Hershey)that has placed Pennsylvania on the Map, send a large division of their company to Mexico. This area needs these jobs in Reading. Have they offered the jobs to the employees? Are the jobs in Mexico to help stimulate Mexico's economy?? Well, it certainly isn't helping Berks County that needs companies to remain there. What do our Senators and Reps. think of this situation? I believe our State needs to get on top of the situation where companies are moving out and there is no mention why or what our state is doing about this situation. A small article will appear in local newspapers after the fact. Trouble within a company will not go away by moving division to another area. Production, update of equipment and salaries are the key to almost all situations. But, for the Share Holders of this solid company to believe this is a good deal is unbelieveable.

This is a #1 on Pennsylvania's Governor List of "MUST DO" in the first quarter of 2009.

You must be in la-la land! Not everyone can afford to buy or rent a house with a driveway and garage. You want to the boroughs/townships to penalize people who don't have that luxury. Well, they would have a lawsuit on their hands, since they would be going against people who have a state-issued driver's license that allows people to drive vehicles (duh!). If the borough/township wants cars off the streets, they'll have to come up with a solution first, like a grant to repair or replace garages that were built years ago that no longer can accommodate today's vehicles, and I am not talking about big vehicles either. One person said their garage was too low and not long enough and this was a mid-size car.

Anonymous said...

No Garage - No Driveway? That is a big problem. Why would you rent/purchase a property that does not have facilities for your auto? I believe the Bloggers were refering to developments that have driveways but are not used for some reason. Developments that date back to the 1950-1960 era have driveways, but usually no garage. The problem that was stated was because the owners have no idea why they should use them. It's one of those "Townee" things that the Blogger mentioned. Check with the School Bus Drivers that need to navigate through these areas with the streets used as a parking lot instead of their driveways, you will see the danger vs safety when it comes down to slowing traffic and children playing. Slowing traffic is a laugh because the drivers have been playing the chicken game in their attempt to get where they want to go without using their brakes or common sense.

Anonymous said...

Townships have Snow Routes usually in place and also dates scheduled for street cleaning and overnight parking. In town this type of schedule is usually used by the Street Department. If you own a car, it needs to be in working condition and have a current license. A Drivers license gives you the privilege to use the roads in the USA, but does not insure you a parking spot. Developments have strict regulations when it comes to cars, animals and the ability to add on to a structure. So, if you have a problem with the area you live in, try to find one that is more suitable to your life-style before settling in this would do you and your neighbor a big favor.

Anonymous said...

Find a house that is suitable to my life style? I'm single and I'm not one who as the Repubs said went out an bought a house that I couldn't afford. I can comfortably afford everything and put aside money in a retirement plan and in regular savings (not all in one basket either). And, I checked the neighborhood where I bought my house, and had input from other people, but that doesn't assure you of a perfect neighborhood. I also lived in cities that had 2 car garages and long driveways, but what about visitors? Someone is going to end up parking on the street. Yeah, we have "snow days", so you have to move your car, and there are the street sweeping days, but that's life. If the one poster is complaining about oil leaks, he/she can get out there with a broom and cleanser. My Benz developed a leak from the second transmission plug. They tried tapping in another, but it still leaked. Then the service dept tried to charge me $1,000 to change that section, but they ended up changing it for free and renting a vehicle for me as they were the only ones that ever serviced that Benz. I may be "justa" woman, but I know about purchasing/repairing vehicles and houses.

Anonymous said...

Follow-up from "justa" woman. Forgot to post that I moved my 401K to a safer plan, so I only lost a couple of thousand $ in this latest fiasco brought on by deregulation from Reagan and carried on by the Bushes, which Greenspan finally said was a BIG MISTAKE. Only lost about 0.5% including the fees.

Most small towns and villages have a "Spring Cleanup Week" or they did at one time. Why would it not be possible for the area that has street parkers, as an example, become the leaders on such a committee. You know how one person sees beautiful neighborhoods might be entirely different from another. Well, no matter how the cleanup week ends up the neighborhoods sure would be cleaner, even in the eyes of a motorhead vs a neatfreek.

--------------------------------
It won't work as long as the borough ignores complaints from citizens. Both code enforcement and the police (of course, I'll talking about the bad apples) are arrogant and ignore calls from the citizens. I and several other people, both owners and renters are tired of the garbage dumping by a bunch of people, some illegal, some renters, who think they can do whatever they want. I have tried to keep my place looking orderly, but it doesn't work. I am seriously thinking about becoming a landlord and rent out the place, then move to a city that supports people who keep their place looking good.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous , It's spring and many people are out-of-doors at various times of the day. This would be a great opportunity to try talking with neighbors about the neighborhood and just kind of mention a few things you feel would help make the area more pleasing...if possible make sure the offending neighbors are within earshot.

Anonymous said...

Spring Cleaning in LP has started with the Street Cleaning Schedule posted. I wish we would be able to tell all those "Street Parkers" to move their cars for that one day. I would suggest a flyer - in a very bright color - be delivered to all kids that ride the School Bus. The drivers of these buses are always trying to navigate these streets so they are aware of the problems with "Street Parkers". Parents should know how important a Community that is well taken care of is always a big plus. Call the Township Office to check the day your street will be scheduled and then pass it on to your neighbors.

Anonymous said...

I talked to one of your "Street Parkers" and told him the date of the street cleaning. His remark "Exactly what time will they be here?" I felt like saying between 8AM and 3PM, like many companies that are scheduleing repairs. Yes, they are our neighbors and I'm not too proud of them.

Anonymous said...

Small talk about or to Street Parkers is futile. I tried handing out a copy of the street cleaning schedule and a few days later asked a group at the local if they were aware of this happening...you got it right..."Really!" Now there are streets that will be resurfaced in the next couple months, I hate to ask if they know it or even care...really.

Our local schools and churches have great musical groups that put on former shows that were on Broadway. Last year I went to one at St. Andrews in Audubon. Such talent! Their Pastor always participates, The Methacton Theater Group is one of a kind, a must see and then "The Barn" in Jeffersonville always great. So, the talent is here in this area, but a new Cultural Center is needed and it should be in the County Seat area where transportation is available. It would be a great drawing card for Norristown.

Methacton Theater Group will be having their groups performing at Shannondell (a gated community)this month. There is a charge but parking will be free at the Giant Food Market and the Mini Bus from the retirement village will transport. This is interesting, and on the surface seems OK, but why should this be a gated community and have public shows? I understood that the theatre and all performances would be strictly for the community and that there are enough guests that would be able to support shows of this type, with the guests extending invitations to their friends, would be the only other people, paying, in attendance. This Theater Group needs a "home" and since this is not the answer, where else in Lower Providence/Worcester Area is there a Theatre Type facility for them to use? We have many retirement communities, but that is not the answer - storage is - and Shannondell should be a one time stop, for their guests, because it is a gated community.

I thought that Shannondell Theater problem with its guests and the community was settled. I believed that when joining and paying for this type of entertainment here at Shannondell, we were permitted to invite guests and it was not a public theatre?? What's going on?? Is this some type of promotional gimmick? What about the thru road that was planned?? We now are to believe this another dead-end street because?? This Shannondell Drive was able to get a signal light on the assumption it would be a thru street?? What about the fire code concerning this community?? All of these concerns are in this "New Year, new possibilities" that concerns truth to LP/WN and this area-at-large.

Being truthful about Shannondell would be a welcome change. If the Blvd., is not extended to Park Avenue, is the Blvd. a private drive? If this were to be the case, the Township would not be required to do maintenance and special rulings would have to be made concerning Fire Codes, plus the signal light at this intersection. Stop playing around with the original plans, hindsight in this case is getting too costly in both dollars and time spent on Code Enforcement. This project should have been completed by 2009 but it looks like the last phase will never happen and the old trailers that were parked on the Neilson property for so many years will never be cleared away and the unsightly appearance will remain as a junk yard overlooking Shannondell Retirement Facility. Stop trying to make this facility something that it is not. The facility right now is great for various people with special needs and a place to spend your final years - leave it at that and clean up the act that is now present.

Now who is funding all of Neilson's Startup Projects? We checked out the Oaks Complex (Former BFG) and the same financial backers of Shannondell appears to be the same - Beneficial Bank or is it Beneficial Savings Bank from across the state line. Well, no matter there seems to be no end to financing these various projects. So, maybe the saying should be Stupid The Economy is well and thriving this year as it was the last 8 otherwise these projects would have gone belly-up.
